Going into next year, we need to learn how to play help defense again, DeRozen to gain 50 basketball iq points, Murray to come back with a 38% corner 3, White shooting 35% on pull up threes off of high screens, and Aldridge to consistently finish plays in the paint. Wouldn't hurt to find a legit swing defender either, we aren't flexible enough on defense. Maybe this is Murray, but he still looks way too thin to handle anyone with a post game.
The most irritating thing about this team to me is probably how Aldridge will do all the hard work to bury a defender on offense or establish a good box out for a defensive rebound, but then instead of finishing the play strong he flips the ball toward the rim or tips the ball to himself, respectively, instead of going up strong. For a guy that big and talented I don't understand why he allows himself to miss so many layups and rebounds when he already did the hard part.
I think our help defense will be better next year with DJ back and more experience together. But unfortunately even with perfect rotations, physically, this team has some limitations.
It's hard for me to be mad at LMA. He was our rock all season. Our most consistent player output and effort wise IMO. You could tell he felt like absolute dog crap in the postgame interviews for not fouling. We just have to accept the fact he can't put us on his back in the playoffs. And that's okay. We just need someone who can. With development I think that player can be White.
It would make all the difference in the world if DeMar could shoot threes too. I know everyone has been saying that his whole career. But who knows, maybe a full summer's work with Chip could help with that.
Re-signing Brynn Forbes should be priority #1 this offseason. Hopefully they can lock him into a fair, long term contract.
Edit: Forbes isn't a FA until the following season. Would he be eligible for an extension this summer?
