The Capela contract also isn't ideal from a financial perspective. I understand he's one of the best ahtletic big men in the league, but man if Harden isn't feeding him wide open looks he's pretty useless on offense.

Capela does a solid job, but I question his usefulness in today's league.

Minnesota with KAT had just 36 wins and has made the playoffs once in the last 15 years.
NOLA has Davis (for now.)
Portland has Nurkic. Meh
OKC has Adams. Meh.
Spurs have TheMarcus. Meh.
Utah has Gobert, but he is a putback guy. Just keep a body on him.

Teams you need to gear up to beat:
Golden State: mainly plays 6'7 Draymond Green at center, though they do have the oft-injured Boogie Cousins on a 1y.
Milwaukee has Brooks Lopez
Toronto has Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol, who are a combined 75 years old.
Philly has Embiid.
Denver has Jokic.
Boston has Al Hortford, who isn't all that scary anymore

That max slot could be way better used on a 3/4. Same with Chris Paul's.

In today's game, the post just isn't that valuable anymore. Jokic is a beast, but that has more to do with his passing ability and court vision. Until they alter something to tweak the current 3 point analytics revolution, there's no need for a true post up big man. I actually read that Lamarcus lead the league in post ups for the past two years. Considering how soft he is in the post that just shows where the game is at right now.

Pretty good article on The Spurs offseason outlook, and pretty much mirrors what I expected. Resign Gay to a one year contract and use the MLE to see if we can find a back up SF that can defend. The interesting thing will be the draft. We've got 3 picks with two in the first round. I'm not sure we have enough assests to offer anyone to try and make a significant move up, but perhaps we could get a pick next year for a team looking to go back into the first round.

I know it seems like Spurs fans have been saying this for the last like 4-5 years, but it would sure be nice if we could unload Patty somewhere. I love Mills, but he's got way too big of a contract and he's gonna eat up too many minutes in the back court for other young players.

Guys that play the 1-2: White, Murray, Forbes, Mills, Belinelli, Walker

With Murray coming back and Derozan handling a lot of the ball handling when he's out there, we really don't need a 3rd PG/under sized 2. Plus, if Walker is gonna be ready to take the next step and get consistent minutes, he doesn't need Mills blocking his playing time just because he's the experienced vet.

His contributions on the court definitely don't warrant $12.5MM. I don't know how much to value his intangible off the court contributions though. We have 0 inspiring, Spurs-culture type players after Mills. I probably am with those that complain about Mills the most. If we were able to re-sign say a Danny Green, I think trading Mills would be a no-brainer, although I don't think we would get anything back in return other than a salary dump.

Kawhi had himself a Kobe game going 16-39 for 41 points. I hate him, but I don't think I've ever seen a buzzer beater like that. Incredible.

Honestly a salary dump would be fine. White and Murray are the two PGs and Derozan also brings the ball up and initiates the offense quite a bit. We have Forbes that's an undersized, 3 point specialist 2 guard and Belinelli can play off the ball just as well as Patty can. Throw in Walker into that mix, and there's just not a ton of minutes to around, and I'd rather let Lonnie get those minutes than Patty.

Mills is still a solid bench option and bounced back to shoot 39% from 3 this season. It's just gonna be near impossible to find a taker with his salary.

Kawhi is gone. Deal with it. Rather he be in Toronto than LA. I hope the raptors beat warriors in finals. Break that team up.

It's pretty clear, at least to me, that Kawhi wanted out for a while and just used the Spurs' mistake as a reason to get out. Being a Players' League is a double edged sword, the downside being the media tending to side with the players, in this case the 'victim', Kawhi. If one was to sit down and rationally think about it, the Spurs were pioneers in load management and would never do anything to put the health of their players at risk. Should Tony have shut his yapper? Sure. Was the initial diagnosis by the Spurs wrong? Maybe. But the distance put between Kawhi and the Spurs was all Kawhi and his camp. What else were the Spurs supposed to do?

Forum poll:

If you think it is more likely that Obi Wan Ginobili works for or at one time worked for the Spurs than Azul using his brain before posting, then blue star this post.

Seems like a fairly weak draft class, so not too bad.

I don't think Zion is going to help anyone with his broken ass jumpshot. He's not tall enough to be a 4/5, and he's going to be too slow to guard the top SFs of the league.

I just don't get the appeal. Because he dunks the ball hard? He's built like LeBron but the comparison ends there. SFs need to be able to shoot 3s in todays game and he shoots what I imagine AzulAg shoots like.

It'll be a weird fit with him and Randle.
