Serious question, especially because I haven't been able to watch much NBA in the past... long time. Do we really want Carmelo? He's a star, so that's a big plus, but isn't he an extremely inefficient player who loves the anti-Morey shot? He plays no defense, has a bad contract, and has had serious issues with our coach. To get him, we'd give up a versatile (but also very expensive) player who excels at the Morey game.

Star power is great, but is he even a fit?

The Knicks are so dysfunctional that I'd actually be shocked if something got done. Dolan is liable to have taken a new concert gig right as the deal was on the 2 yard line.

I wonder if Perry, Dolan, and the Knicks org are really "trying" to get Melo to stay, or using this whole scenario as leverage. By all accounts Melo wants to come to Houston and the Knicks know that. To this point he has stated he wouldn't waive the trade clause unless it were to go to Cleveland or Houston. I understand the Knicks don't want to get into a lopsided deal, but they don't have a lot of alternatives that will net them any decent return

-Force him to play under his current contract in NY
-Trade to CLE or HOU
-Try and convince him to be open to being traded to another team
-Buy him out

Look at Team USA Carmelo. That is who would be on this team.

And indeed this recent "pause" is the Knicks trying to get leverage where they have none.
