Part of me loves that, but another part of me thinks that doesn't really track with what I know about directors.
Maybe its different since he is technicalyl a director? I just find it hard to beleive he wouldnt pay attention to every detail.
But, lets say he did intend all that stuff in the backround...this is the perfect answer to give to throw people off the scent.

I would dislike if he turned out to be a Jedi
It would borderline ruin the show for me.

Jedi were too well known just to be chilling on Coruscant.

I've never felt so weird rooting for two characters to kiss.

I was actually rooting for them not to kiss as it would feel a little too cliche, we've seen that play out way too many times (obviously not with two villains) but if they do end up hooking up in S2 I bet Gilroy does it in a way that subverts expectations.
Yea, I definitely expected them to, because thats just what happens in these scenes.
The way they handled it was perfectly in line with the rest of this show

So far Cyril has been just a bit creepy, but I want him to go full on psychopath.

Related: Andor really is good about executing people. The potential traitor from the raid, the informant from the start of Rogue One, anybody who gets knocked down. Dude is ruthless.

Gonna make a prediction for season 2 from what's happened in season 1 and from this speech (this is only from me and not read anywhere on the internet):

Cassian's sister is going to be an imperial officer and he's gonna kill her…..but here's how…..

We're not gonna see her or grow attached to her as a character cause we don't need to…..Andor is going to discover she's alive and through trying to find her discover she's working for the empire and be located on a base/ship that's already part of a rebel mission to be destroyed….

Andor is going to have to make the decision to follow through with the mission or spare his sister….and he's going to follow through on the mission….

Just an idea….

I think there's a 0.0% chance Cassian's sister is ever seen outside of a flashback.

I also wouldn't be too convinced that any characters from Season 1 show up in Season 2 outside of Luthien, Mon Mothma, Saw, and maybe Melshi. If the series is going to jump 1 year at a time in 4 3-episode arcs, it's hard to imagine that Syril and Meero and the whole gang keep showing up. Maybe they will appear in one arc or another but some of them might just be unfinished stories that slightly connected to Andor but no more.

Before the finale I would have agreed, but I was really surprised by how they kept the threads alive for nearly every prominent character, hinting at their stories to come in a very intentional manner. Meero and Syril's relationship evolved in their one moment together, in a super interesting way (and not necessarily romantically), Cassian telling Brix and Brasso he'd see them again, etc. It felt very traditional in that sense, essentially saying, "This is our cast and we're going to stick with them." That's the impression I got, at least.

It also sounds like Kyle Soller, who plays Syril, is very much involved in season two…

From my breakdown on page one…

Just FYI, for a bit more context about the series as a whole...

- While Andor is set to last only two, pre-planned seasons, at 12 episodes per season that's equal to three full seasons of The Mandalorian.

- According to showrunner Tony Gilroy, the full, 24-episode series will ultimately, in the end, "walk the audience directly into the first scenes of Rogue One."

- Season one begins five years before the events of Rogue One (with flashbacks to Andor's childhood) and will cover ONE year in the timeline.

- Season two, however, will cover the remaining FOUR years, with every three episodes covering another year in the timeline (again, for 12 episodes total). According to Gilory, "We're going to take our four blocks of three [episodes] in the second half of the show and each block is going to represent another year closer. We really get to take the formative forging of Cassian Andor in the first 12 episodes and then we get to take that organism that we've built up and run it through the next four years in a really exciting narrative fashion."

I hate watered down seasons but I'm not sure if I like cramming 4 years in 12 episodes. Maybe it will work but let's push it to 3 seasons at least

They originally planned to do five seasons, but halfway through filming season one Gilroy and Luna came to the realization that they couldn't keep it up for another four years/seasons. Just too time consuming/intense, Gilroy is already in his 60s, etc. That's when they had the idea to tell the rest of the story in four chunks of three episodes across a second season. So, yes, it's going to be truncated and wasn't the original plan, but like Ol_Ag_02 said, Gilroy has earned the benefit of the doubt, and I trust he's going to do it right. That, and I'm thinking of it more as another four prequel movies. We got one season to set everything/everyone up, and now we essentially get four movies leading up to Rogue One, told across twelve weeks in 2024.

Am I the only one who sees Syril as not romatically pursuing Meero? He seems like he's desperate for a boss/organization he believes in, not a girlfriend.

He makes more sense in season two as an obsessive underling than as a romantic interest.

I would agree except for the scene where he goes to wait for her outside of ISB headquarters and he says "he'd never seen such beauty" or something to that effect. He has the hots for her…

I think it's a whole, twisted thing. I think it's partly romance, partly respect, partly a power trip, partly career oriented, there's some revenge mixed in there, obsession with order and justice, even a domineering angle, etc. That's what makes it so weird and interesting. It's a little of everything and no one thing.

What an ending to a gritty great story. The price of rebellion is high and you can see what everyone is willing to pay.

My only complaint is they made every stormtrooper an expert marksman. None of them missed. More people got snuffed here on one shot kills than in every other Star Wars property combined.

From IO9 - interview with Gilroy

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy explained how (the Death Star's) continued assembly will be a "looming threat" and drive the show going forward. The next season, he said, "is about who picks up the final breadcrumbs that lead to the beginning of Rogue One. [...] Cassian knows some ****, but he's looking for answers."

One thing he won't ever know, added Gilroy, is that he had an unwilling hand in the device's creation. Similarly, the filmmaker said that the show will won't create new scenes for within the movie's timeframe, and will progress "linearly" into the film. "[The show's end will] be him walking out to get on the ship and go there. So we're not going to go into Rogue One." Cassian and his team discovering in full what the Death Star is won't be tweaked by the show's existence, and likewise, his introduction in that movie will remain intact.

Before season one of Andor even aired, it was reported that season two would be spread across four years, with every three episodes covering a year of the titular hero's life. When asked, Gilroy described the timeline of those arcs as "super condensed. [...] They won't be spread out." While there'll be some focus on what happened in between those time skips, he referred the second season as more concentrated compared to the first.
As for what that means for Cassian as a character, Gilroy told Entertainment Weekly that we'll see him grow into his leadership role that eventually sees him put a crew together to steal the Death Star plans. "He has to negotiate his way through the Luthen experience and the benefits and disasters that that means and that relationship," said Gilroy. "Our show's gonna end up in Yavin and he'll walk out and he'll be there to be the guy who gives his life."
Much of season two will also see how these disparate rebel factions come together for something greater. This is something season one briefly touched on in Luthen's scenes with Saw Gerrera, who has no love for some other rebel cells hitting the Empire. Season two intends to further expand on that tension between those groups, and it'll fall on Cass to help get everyone to see eye-to-eye.
"How do you operate when your business is paranoia?" asked Gilroy. "How do you collaborate when paranoia and secrecy are your product?...And how does the empire exploit those differences?" Amidst all of this, the season will feature "all the relationships and all the love and all the betrayal" that defined some of season one's quieter, strongest moments. But one thing that won't be up for questioning is Cassian's loyalty to the cause. "He's in, he's committed. So now it's what do you do with it?"

Finally got to the finale tonight after a weekend of family travel. Loved it! Others have already mentioned some of this, but highlights included:
- The world building of this entire show has been incredible. Every culture feels real and deep, and taking their time with the funeral really drove that through here.
- They did a great job building the tension. Loved seeing the empire losing its cool a bit as the funeral procession neared and then altogether when the riot broke out.
- Solid speeches from several characters
- Mon Mothma with the spy craft to pin the missing money on her husband
- The informant asking to get fake arrested so he could pass along info. All the spy craft stuff in this show is awesome

My only quibble is it felt a tad contrived that almost everyone was on Ferrix at the same time. It doesn't really make sense for the empire to go all out on the funeral assuming Andor will show up; it doesn't really make sense for Andor, knowing he's a very wanted fugitive, to go to the funeral; and it didn't makes sense for Luthen and the two rebel ladies to all be there either for a job one or two of them could handle. It was all just a tad "we need these people to be here for a finale, so it's going to happen," when really a small imperial force keeping an eye out, 1 or 2 luthen agents and No Andor would make more sense if folks were all making the smart moves. But this is a very small quibble because the climax putting all those folks in one place gave us was quite fun.
Oh, and Andor seemed to get in and out of the garrisoned hotel wayyy too easily. Even with the riot drawing troopers outside, I'd have still expected more command and control inside that he'd have to deal with.

I also really liked how organically the riot happened. It's not clear how much of an uprising was planned at all. The people were feeling tense and defiant, sure, and one kid wanted to avenge his dead father (?) with a pipe bomb, but if the imperial agent hadn't flipped out and knocked over the droid, there might not have been a riot at all. Really liked the way they showed chance and opportunity play out here. And the way they showed it was chaotic, but this didn't end in an "empire driven off the planet!" Moment, or anything silly like that.
Thanks and gig'em

Reading the posts about how season two will cover 4 years in 3 episode bursts, man. Good luck! That is an ambitious compression of events. Could be an incredibly high-octane season. I wonder if each 3 episode "year" will end up feeling like it's own movie or if the four years will flow together more fluidly without and clear delineation.

Can't wait for it. I hope Disney listens and gives us a LOT more Star Wars like Andor.

The Empire didn't go all out for the funeral. It was 1 ISB agent and her assistant along with the local garrison that was already on planet to take over security/governance from the Corpos following the first riot. The garrison was deployed due to the high tensions and risk of another riot.

I'm not sure Andor knows he is a wanted fugitive to that level. He was wanted for the murder of 2 men, but even the failed raid by the corporate security forces was mostly covered over by the first riot. He came back after Aldhani and was able to slip in and out without trouble, so it's reasonable to think he could do it again. Until arriving on Ferrix I don't think there is any reason to think he would know that the ISB considers him a high priority target since that is only due to his connection to Axis, which he doesn't even know is Luthen.

Cinta was always there because her job was to wait there until Andor came back and then kill him. Vel makes sense because she is actively being brushed off by everyone when she thought she was important, so she is trying to get people to pay attention to her even if it compromises other people's cover/mission.

Luthen is the one who shouldn't have been there, but even his assistant tells him that and he says he needs to see to it personally. Maybe the business with Kreegyr and Saw unnerved him and he felt like going there to recruit Cassian instead of killing him would ease his conscience. It's certainly acknowledged by the show that he shouldn't have been there.
