Given the international box office for a given US flick can be more than the domestic one it's odd to count coup on these films for a sizable fraction of what they actually made.

Sure Avatar made 2.8 billion world wide, but did you know Star Wars Force Awakens almost made a billion in the US? Why worry about the World Cup when we have MLS standings?

These 2 stanzas are really contradicting one another and confusing me.

Lightyear made $10,552 across 280 theaters on Thursday. An incredible average of $38 per theater.

Maverick up to the sign of Xenu, $666 milion with another $900 K yesterday. If we assume it makes around $5 million this weekend, it should catch/pass Infinity War at the end of next week.

Love & Thunder breaks the top 80 all-time domestic, moving past Megan Fox's Ass, 2007 edition.

I can't believe lightyear is still in theaters while it's been on Disney+ for a couple weeks now.

How about this one guys - Maverick went back to IMAX yesterday and jumped back to THIRD on the daily domestic box, making $1.94 million.

Bullet Train was #1 with $3.865 million
DC Super Pets beat out Maverick by $15,000.

Maverick, in its 78th day of box office run, finished ahead of Nope (22nd day), Thor (36th day), and Minions (43rd day).

Now at $668 million, $10 million short of Infinity War.

Ah maybe so…that makes it make more sense.

That being said I care more about the MLS standings instead of the World Cup ones in this scenario.

Well Maverick has blown away expectations again. The return to IMAX led it to finish #2 at the box office this weekend, hauling it $7.15 million according to The Numbers early estimates. It's up to $673.8 million and will surpass Infinity War near the end of this coming week.

Assuming it sticks around at the current # of theaters, it should have a legit shot at hitting $700 million and passing Black Panther for 5th on Labor Day weekend.

Maverick back up to #2 on Monday despite a lot of schools starting, making another $866,000 to reach $674 million. Just $4 million behind Infinity War for 6th all-time.

Thor L&T will move into the top 75 all-time domestic in a couple of days. 75th is currently held by IT.

Today I learned that a staggering 792 films have made at least $100 million domestic all time. #7792 is Die Hard with a Vengeance at $100,012,499.

Tough break for Gnomeo and Juliet at $99,967,670.

Not sure how long E.T. is going to hang around, but if it can make another $2.9 million, it will sneak past Shrek 2 and move up to #23 all time.

Anyone know what Rogue One's return engagement is in terms of theaters or time? It's only $1.6 million behind The Dark Knight for 14th.

More importantly, ET is only $6M behind Sound of Music for #3 on the all time adjusted list. But given its limited release it's not getting there.

Had they done a wide release it could have had a pretty decent shot.

Well kids, Maverick just made another $1 million at the box office. On a Tuesday. On its 82nd day since release.

That's more than Avatar's 82nd day at the theaters (also a Tuesday) by about $400,000 (unadjusted). Titanic made $1.2 million on its 82nd day. That's probably the only higher # in history.

Infinity War's lead is down to $3.128 million headed into Wednesday, which means Maverick probably passes it on Friday and starts the climb up to the next peak, $700 million, where Black Panther awaits.

Maverick made $1.5 million on Friday to pass Avengers: Infinity War for #6 all-time at the domestic box office.

Maverick entered Saturday at $679,074,834.
Infinity War bowed in 2018 at $678,815,482.

Next up is Black Panther at $700 million and change.

Maverick has made slightly more than the combined total of Minions 2 and Thor 4, which are ranked 5th and 6th on the year so far. Those two have combined for $676 million.

Uhhh, other than End Game and No Way home, sure...

Maverick made $5.5 million over the weekend, including $2.5 million on Saturday alone.

It's up to $683 million now, $17 million short of Black Panther. #5 will likely be its peak, as Avatar is 4th at $760 million, and I feel like Spilner said they were re-releasing it before the new one comes out.

Will be interesting now to see how high Avatar 2 can fly. Will Maverick be able to be the #1 movie of 2022 or will Avatar follow its predecessor and Titanic and just wreck shop? For that matter, where will Black
Panther 2 land? It's not often sequels to 2 of the biggest 5 (soon to be 6) movies come out within a
few weeks of each other!

SO the big 4 for the rest of the year are:

Black Adam, which has been being filmed for 73 years, October 21

Wakanda Forever, November 11

Avatar 2, December 16

Shazam 2, December 21

Obviously not really expecting Shazam to compete with the other 3, it made $140m domestic in 2019, but it will take away some section of Avatar, especially since it's probably more kid friendly.

So my question to you, if you're still reading this, when the dust has settled in 2023, what are your final domestic totals for

1) Maverick
2) Avatar 2
3) Wakanda Forever?

I don't really care a lot about international stuff because America is the best, but did a look at the total #s today.

Maverick is currently 12th in all-time worldwide box office (unadjusted for inflation). It passed Avengers: Age of Ultron recently for 12th and should have enough left to pass up Frozen II for 11th.

The Top 15 are

1. Avatar $2.845bn
2. Endgame: $2.79bn
3. Titanic: $2.2bn
4. The Force Awakens: $2.06bn
5. Infinity War: $2.05bn
6. No Way Home: $1.88bn
7. Jurassic World: $1.67bn
8. The Lion King: $1.65bn
9. The Avengers: $1.52bn
10. Furious 7: $1.51bn
11. Frozen II: $1.44bn
12. Maverick: $1.40bn
13. Age of Ultron: $1.39bn
14. Black Panther: $1.34bn
15. The Last Jedi: $1.33bn

For comparison's sake, only 47 movies have made more than $1 billion all-time. Of those, the only ones that came out prior to 2010 are: Avatar (09), Titanic (97), Return of the King (03), Dead Man's Chest (06), Jurassic Park (93), and The Phantom Menace (99).

The full impact of the start of the school year showed up Monday, with no movie making at least $1 million for the first time in a while. Black Superman vs. Simba was the top ticket taker at $900k.

Maverick is at $684 million but I think it comes out on digital in some form today, which means it's going to have do more in fewer theaters to make it up to $700 million. IIRC, Black Panther mysteriously made a lot of money right before it left theaters to get it to $700 million even, so Maverick's owners might do the same shennanigans.

Jurassic World: Dominion slipped past Spider-Man 2 and into 49th all-time at just shy of $374 million.

Minions #2 moved past American Sniper, two very similar films, for 61st all-time at $350 million and change.

Thor 4 pushed past Batman v Superman: Dawn of Total Bull**** for the next 4 years at $332 million. It's about $1.5 million short of Guardians of the Galaxy and eking its way towards the Top 70.

Lightyear officially left theaters with the kids back at school having made $118 million domestic, 593rd place all-time. Woof.

Maverick zooms into this weekend at $686.5 million, about $13.5 million short of Black Panther for 5th place all time. It made $5 million last week in its return to the IMAX. It's down to make about $650,000 a day this week.

If it can make $4 million at the box this weekend, and average $500,000 a day next week, it would enter Labor Day weekend around $693.5 million.

Black Panther was out in theaters for 175 days, and in the final 8 days it was about, it suddenly was in man additional 10 theaters (it had been down to just 15) and magically made a whole lot of money to push it barely past $700 million. On August 1, it had made $400 in 15 theaters, then on August 2 it made $12,594 in 25 theaters, and average more than $10,000 a day for the next week. Hollywood magic!

Maverick completed its 91st day at the box on Thursday by comparison.

92nd verse, same as the first.

Maverick made $1.35 million at the box office on Friday on its ninety-second day of release. It finished third among all movies.

The only thing comparable is Titanic, which made an insane $4.3 million on its 92nd day, also a Friday. That was the weekend of the Oscars where Titanic won 11 awards, and it was an insane box office spectacle, making $8m on that Saturday and another $4.8 million that Sunday. Titanic was nominated for 14 Oscars and won 11. Avatar made $1.057 million on its 92nd day, also a Friday.

On a side note, how awesome were the 1997 Oscars? Maybe it just feels that way because I was 23 and going to see a new movie every week? Titanic, As good as it Gets, Good Will Hunting, LA Confidential, The Ful Monty, Boogie Nights, Wag the Dog - the greatest dark horse movie of all time, In & Out, Amistad, Donnie Brasco, and on and on, all part of the awards night.

Top Gun's up to $687.8 million through Friday. Minions 2 passed Transformers: Dark of Moon for 60th all-time and Thor 4 slid ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy and is approaching the top 70.

Any chance they re-release Black Panther leading up to the Wakanda Forever release? Would that have already been announced by now?

Did they ever re-release Infinity War before Endgame? I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often.

Might be the next unimaginative Hollywood trend. Remakes, reboots and rereleases.

I felt like they re-released it during the pandemic because I remember seeing it on the listings when my brother and I went to see The Empire Strikes Back.

Yep, just for one weekend in June, but it made another $367,000, but not enough to click the counter past $700m

The NWH re-release definitely feels like a cheap way to inflate their BO.

They're not really building up any release and it's just a random time to do it, 9 months after it came out.

No Way Home returned to the box office with an estimated $1.75 million on Friday, taking the #1 spot and upping its all-time total to $806 million domestic (third all-time).

Four movies made $1 million or more, including Maverick, which finished third with $1.075 million to reach $694.4 million.

The IMAX release of Jaws was an impressive fifth with $870,000. Since this is a new version of the film, its box office does not add to its original total.
