I've caught up on the show. My main thought is that I can't believe how bad the production value of the show is. It's shocking how cheap it looks. The chase scene through the woods in the first episode was stunning at how bad it looked.

Question - How does Kathleen Kennedy still have the job of running all things Star Wars? The new movies for the most part were turds; she's gone through numerous directors even having to fire the directors in the middle of shooting Solo, it's gotten so bad that they've had to take a break from releasing any new Star WRs movies. How does she still have this job?

The only thing I can think of is that despite how bad a lot of this stuff is, it did make/is making a lot of money, in theaters and for Disney+. In other words, the franchise is successful financially, and maybe that's all that matters.

I would also venture to guess that, given the toxic nature of a swath of fanbase and the limitations creatively, Disney might actually have trouble filling Kennedy's role with anyone better.

What's odd though is that Disney owns a couple other major properties that also make tons of money and are notable for their creativity and intricate story telling.

Well, Episode 4 wasn't bad, just kind of short, clocking in at about 30 minutes. I'm sure the rest of the thread will hate it.

Of course, it being a prequel took a lot of the suspense out of it. But it was enjoyable.

Kenobi in the dark was pretty cool. Seems he's getting his force groove back.

"Is this a staring contest" was a pretty great line.

I just… four episodes in, and I still don't understand how this show is so bad.

That was such a nothing episode, one that yet again looked like a glorified SyFy series, with the same shaky cam crap that continues to make everything look and feel cheap as hell.

More than ever, though, I'm increasingly baffled at how they couldn't find someone better than Moses Ingram. There are so many black actresses who would have jumped at the chance and killed this role, and I just can't fathom how Ingram beat them all out.

Also, aren't we back to basically exactly where we were, say, half an hour into last week's episode? Obi-Wan and Leia are back together, on the run with Tala, and Vader is once again giving Reva a chance to prove herself. I mean, what was the point of any of that ? The plot didn't evolve, and neither did a single character in any meaningful way. Obi-Wan is getting better with the Force, I guess, but that was about it.

Really, nothing about this series makes any sense, and it's just depressing as hell.

That episode isn't going to win Reva any new fans.

They've basically recreated end of the fallen order game this episode and refused to mention Cal kestis..

It's been 5 years since cal kestis invaded this fortress and they did nothing to upgrade the defenses. Why make the game canon and make this show so stupid.

Yeah, it seriously felt like damn near anyone could gain access to that place, considering there were basically zero exterior defenses. Which also has the side effect of making Vader come across as kind of a dolt. That aspect, combined with Vader being so pissed but then basically being like "Genius!" the second Reva told him about the tracker, really did make him seem like an idiot this episode.

The writing is just so lazy and so bad.

Like, nothing about the bit where Tala first had to get past that security guard made any sense. Her uniform CLEARLY indicated that she outranked the guard, yet he treated her like sh*t, that is, until she SAID she outranked him, and then suddenly he was trembling in his boots? Because of classified information or something, protocols be damned? That whole exchange was lazy writing, plain and simple, but what really annoyed me was that you could tell the writers thought it was clever. When I feel like I've seen that scene 400 times elsewhere, and done better nearly every time.

They are doing Reva no favors.

I love Indira in this. She has been a highlight for me.

Enjoyed the episode. Even with the classic Star War "impenetrable base just allows you to walk in" trope.

It sort of feels like the writers bought into the character-driven hype for this show and figured they could mail it in on dialogue and story development. Like, who cares if it looks and feels and sounds pretty lame, it has OBI-WAN in it so, viewers will love it regardless?

That's the only explanation that I can come up with. They're blatantly ripping off of Fallen Order - a recent and canonized property - and I guess they figure no one will either notice or care. It's interesting and has some fun parts, but it could have easily been so much better.

Now that's more like it. Always a sucker for a good mission episode.

Seeing Obi-Wan finally return to form was so enjoyable. Especially when he trapped the stormtroopers in the water.

Did Reva really put a tracker on the ship, or was she lying to save her ass? She definitely didn't look like she was close enough to the ship, but could be an editing trick to make us doubt her.

No doubt. And predictably, TC is the first to chime in with how bad it was.

She put a tracker in Leia's droid.

I guess one way to enjoy a show is to not pay attention to it.

This episode was....fine. I've pretty much given up on this show being great.

When folks said they were ripping off Fallen Order, I wasn't expecting it to be so blatant wow. Even the water crashing through the broken glass to provide a means of escape. It didn't turn out exactly like Fallen Order obviously, but goodness.

Kenobi hiding Leia in his coat? Really? Hahaha

Kinda surprising to see Reva block blaster bolts from a speeder without there being recoil. Would have been cooler to see the bolts have more umph behind them.

Anyway, it was fun seeing Kenobi knock some rust off and fight back.

I agree with both the praise and the criticism. I hated that scene with her pulling rank and going classified! I also agree about how nothing has moved forward except Obi-Wan feeling more confident. In a 6 episode format you don't have time to waste, and they are wasting it. Oh, and don't they have TIE fighters? Those speeders just waltz in and leave with no resistance?

No wonder Leia knows the Falcon is being tracked in A New Hope...she's been down that road before.

I find it interesting that we've gone back to Return of the Jedi power on the lightsaber. Just hitting things and not slicing through like the prequels.

The progress has been slow, but the episode(s) that we could've skipped would've been most of 2-3, imo. This one was significantly better.

You could probably lose all of 2.

You raise an interesting point and I agree with you, and it makes me disappointed with the show. The series is short and the episodes are short. The idea we probably can trim almost half of what we've seen so far, of what like 2 something hours total, is a bummer.

I've been watching Stranger Things season 4 this week as well and the amount of stuff going on in each episode is really fun, and each episode is over twice as long as Kenobi.

I was immediately disheartened when I saw the length of the episode, but I mostly enjoyed it, just from a rescue mission perspective. I agree that there has been almost no character development besides Obi-Wan slowly using the Force more. And yeah, we're right back to where we were not long ago ... minus Wade :-( ... so this just felt like filler. Reva could have just simply planted a tracker on Leia's ship at the port on Mapuzo instead of capturing her, which would have made way more sense.

I think the most surprising thing thus far is the lack of backstory for Reva. I know we all assume she's the first one we see in Ep1, so I've been expecting more than just some vague "I had a droid taken from me when I was younger, like everything else" lines. I'd love to actually care about her character and we're quickly running out of time.

Completely agree. It's definitely a bummer and overall the show has been a disappointment relative to my exceedingly high expectations. That said, I'm still enjoying most of what I'm seeing, and admittedly forgiving quite a bit of nitpicks. Still don't love the music, still think the cinematography is not where it could be, and have to forgive small stupid stuff like the gate, the two dumb chases, being able to knock out stormtroopers with a soft hit to the helmet, etc.

I agree that ST has been a lot more fun, sadly. But as for the length, you're following 3 major storylines (that quickly turns into 5+), and a TON of characters, so in that sense I get it. As mentioned above, this seems like a movie that was extended into a miniseries.

But it does suck that ST just seems to be overall the much better show. Production value, tension, etc. You can see the money on the screen in a way that you can't with this. I get that Netflix probably dumped a pile of money into it, and it shows, but it just doesn't make sense that Disney couldn't do the same for two of the most iconic characters of all time.

Still hope the last two episodes will raise the show to the next level...

Kind of on a side note....

I worked with a guy from Scotland once. He used to say you can never under estimate the power of how cheap a Scot can be.

Well, one of the Executive Producers is from Scotland, so maybe, just maybe, that can explain the production quality.

I can look past a lot. Finding your way through "impenetrable" fortresses with ease is kind of a hallmark of Star Wars (see a New Hope).

Vader has had some fun appearances so far. Kenobi getting his grove back was good.

Reva is just awful. Like she is in some CW show. I can't believe she is who they cast/wrote.
