How the hell was Brendon tried as an adult? He was 16 and clearly not even at that learning level. Watching the video, it's obvious that the cops led him down the path they wanted him to go. And he's not only convicted, he can't get an appeal????? Insane.

Bobby Dassey & Scott Tadych seem like good suspects. Likely jealous of all of the attention Avery is getting

That happens more now than anyone realizes Rex. Cops are allowed to interrogate kids in school and lie constantly about being in their side and leading them into false confessions. Then the kids are tried as adults and the chips testify against them after constantly dating things like "I won't gang you out to dry. I'm on your side. I just want to know what you saw" like they did to Brendan. It should be illegal to do that on school grounds.

It was obvious that Brendan had no clue what was really going on. He was just trying to make everyone happy. He didn't want to disappoint anyone.

Also the moral of the story is it's basically illegal to be poor and dumb. You can be one or the other but if you are both you are screwed

I think the moral is to immediately ask for an attorney.

In Wisconsin, there is no guarantee you will get an attorney who is not colluding with the cops and the prosecution.

Easier to ask for an attorney when you are not sub 75 IQ dumb

Yes he was awful. Throw in the DA too. I didn't like him originally. After the sexting a domestic abuse victim I really had to ask wtf?

They tried that but it was taken down because it was for someone who was convicted of a "heinous crime".

Thanks to this forum, just started watching...2 episodes in...WHOA!

Scary what a few losers with a little power, a few connections and no sense of consequence can do!

I bet this happens in EVERY state...frightening!

I'd love to see the entire case or all the evidence against that the documentary didn't show. The cat thing that vulture article talks about is interesting.

But Steve Avery could be a killer, the family could be a clan of incestuous freaks that commit petty crimes etc. All that being said, the detectives and the fact that Colburn and Lenk volunteered to help search the house and go back like 8 times is just too much for me.

There was way too much of a "let's make sure we get this guy" around the entire situation

Incest and "weird sex" claims are one of the most common claims made against the white poor, as way a exiling and minimizing them. I think any of us who grew up in a rural area know of a family like the Averys. The cat thing is obviously true, he admits to it and is disturbing.

I agree. I didn't mean to sound like I believe all that just because the investigator for the defense attorney wrote it. What I meant was "even if they were all of that, there were still major issues with key law enforcement characters throughout"

Kratz criticized the documentary as not showing all the physical evidence. I'd also love to see all the physical evidence they have

Can someone tell me how a guy, who just spent 18 years in prison for a crime he obviously didn't commit, would be so absolutely negligent to park the car of the woman he just murdered a 100 yards from his trailer while at the same time being so perfectly careful not to leave any DNA or physical proof of the actual murder. The man was overwhelmingly worried that the cops were out to get him and cooperated from the get go. Let them on his property to search and did interviews with the press right after she went missing. It just doesn't make any sense at all that he would be so absolutely careful in covering up any evidence of the actual murder and at the same time so negligent with the key to the car and the location of the key piece of evidence in the vehicle.

I'm not positive the cops framed him, but it certainly looks likely. I'm also not convinced that another member of his family didn't do it knowing Steve would take the fall.

This whole thing is astounding. I felt like the town was full of idiots and the only rational smart people involved in the whole ordeal were his two defense attorneys, who I loved.

There's "emails" circulating on Reddit from Kratz to users who have emailed him. The additional physical evidence and other circumstantial pieces are not very impressive....IF IF IF its actually from him.

I actually think IF IF it's from kratz, then it helps.

Im naturally suspicious so I don't buy the good ol boy mantra that Steve and the documentary are putting off.

That being said, I still have major issues with how the case was handled. That's my biggest compliant. That and Brendan's statement, or what we saw of his statement

Yeah I'm with you there.

There's more to Steven than was mentioned. im sure there's a lot more that will come out but regardless of all the outside stuff there's a lot of doubt around him actually committing the murder.

There are a billion things that point to Steve being setup by the police and/or by whoever committed the murder, and most of the key
Points have been mentioned. But even if you ignore the fact that the cops were shady as hell, what was Steven's motive? I never heard this mentioned. How does he get convicted with all of the proof of the planted evidence and no motive at all? It makes no sense. Maybe I could understand a conviction if the state was able to give a reason why Steven wanted Theresa dead, but we are just supposed to believe a guy who recently got out of prison and was suing the county randomly killed a lady and then burned her in his back yard and parked her car nearby? And then we are just supposed to ignore all the mistakes/crimes committed by the police?

At one point in the trial, the DA said that you don't even need the key to convict. So if you believe the key was planted you can just ignore that fact and convict based on the other evidence. Wtf? So he's basically telling the jury that the key may have been planted but you should just convict him anyway????

This documentary was addictive bc it was so unbelievable.

I also thought the judge was crooked. He ruled against Steven in multiple pretrial motions that should have been granted in my opinion. And also made several rulings during trial that went against Steven. For instance, how can
He rule that the deletion of voicemails was not relevant? It shows someone was accessing the voicemails, which the state can argue was the police or the killer.

Also, I thought the ruling that the defense could not try to point the finger at any third party was very peculiar. So they are supposed to defend their client without arguing that a third party killed the victim?

I liked it better than The Jinx (that ending aside tho), but thought it was a notch below Serial S1. Criticisms of Koenig and her approach aside, I thought she did a good job of creating a story and putting alternative theories forward. This show was a little more objective, but basically just makes it seems like the cops were the only alternative. So for me it comes down to preference in technical accuracy vs. soap opera storytelling, and I just prefer the Serial soap.

Great show though, worth the investment.

I couldnt believe the judge ruled against the voicemails. They proved that either she was alive on 11/2 or someone accessed her VM before she was reported missing on 11/3. Steves lawyers did an amazing job poking holes I think they were just fighting an uphill battle.

I don't see how he could have cleaned the garage and bedroom to the point of absolutely no blood anywhere. If you assume she was shot in the head in the garage blood would have gone everywhere.
