It was a good call, Marisnick went out of his way and changed direction to truck the catcher. Had he stayed on line, game would have been over.

Maybe. I disagree with your premise.
It looked to me like he changed direction to try and slide inside around the catcher, but the throw from right field brought the catcher up the line right into his path at the last minute.
Disagree. Catcher was off the plate blocking the path before he had the ball. So what does Jake do? Stop in his tracks and wait for the catch so he can be tagged out?Quote:

He may have been trying to go inside to avoid the tag, but that's impossible to really to tell. It was the changing of direction and subsequent smoking of the catcher that got him called out.
Either way, the good guys won and it didn't matter much.

Jake kind of *****ed up imo. Throwing at him was probably justified, but the location wasn't. Tough spot for him though. I hope we have the balls to throw one at them next game. Pujols, preferably.
I think Cole ought to put the first pitch about 12" behind the head of the first batter. Let the umpire put the warnings out to everybody, get the message across that where Jake was plunked wasn't cool, and then everybody can go back to playing baseball...
Although you could probably get the same message across by just having the catcher setup right behind Pujols instead of behind the plate the first time he comes up to bat. Wait for him to notice it and step out, then go on about the game.
Hate to say that games in July are "must wins" but really need to take these next 2 and keep some space between the A's right now until Hinch figures out the 3-5 hole sh-t show of a pitching rotation. A's are on fire right now and currently sit at 4 games back.

Teams get hot at various times through the year and get 'close', but what makes teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, and in the Crane years with the Astros is the ability to stay consistent through the season. The A's are playing out of their minds right now, but they will not keep up that pace. Pick up a solid starter and a reliever or 2 at the deadline and we are set for a playoff run. This group of guys are special and it will show in October when it matters.
The A's are gonna be right there until the bitter end. They're certainly on a nice streak, but it averages out with how poorly they started at the beginning of the season, which is the only reason this isn't a back and forth battle just yet. The A's are a damn good team.
