Unfortunately, the problem is management. Playing hardball with homegrown players only to roll over at the last minute drives up salaries. Backloaded contracts means you have cap issues every year. We give the longest contracts in football and that also means we're in cap trouble years down the road. We are penny pinchers in free agency and constantly scrape the bargain bin for depth. We refuse to tear down, reset the cap, and start over. All of these things have been true since the late 90s, except when Parcells briefly had personnel control for a few years.

None of the Jones' in charge can look at the situation for 20+ years and think, "Maybe we're doing this wrong?" and start to make smarter moves and changes. So they're going to keep doing things the same way, and we're going to keep being not quite good enough.

Edit: so you can trade Parsons, hire new coaches and all the rest, and it won't mean anything until the personnel management improves. And that's only going to happen when Jerry and Stephen eat a piece of humble pie and start trying to be better at that job. In other words, probably never

The thing that has plagued this team for quite a while is being weak in the interior of the defense. They have historically invested very little in DT, and when they did, they picked the wrong guy in Mazi.

They also haven't invested in a really good MLBer.

And, with 3 losses, say they go 9-8, they still won't get a top ten draft pick.

And getting whipped going into a bye week is gonna linger. Good news is that maybe it's enough time to get their heads straight before playing SF away.

I don't think this team finishes above .500. When you can get run on at will, that's a tough spot for the offense to cover, and our offense doesn't look particularly daunting

The team has the wombo combo of subpar talent, poor coaching, and bad culture. There are 3 players on the team that I've seen play with 100% effort regardless of the situation: Dak, Dono, and Overshown. Unfortunately all 3 of those guys have flaws, and when they press they make mistakes although I think that's true for all players. The team culture is just soft. When they run into a hard nosed, physical team like Detroit they just crumble. Diggs was out there making business decisions in the 1st quarter, Ceedee routinely takes plays off (and continues to run the wrong routes), and both lines continually get whipped. I don't think it matters what individual player is at any given position, this team just sucks and it's entirely a culture issue

Yeah, lots of Dak blaming but I will point out two very big points.

I saw on X that the PFF grades for each of the 5 OL, are well below average. So Dak has a below average OL.

Now for the second year in a row, he has the worst or close to the worst WR corp when it comes to separation rate.

So, two things that are critical for a QB to succeed, a quality OL and WRs that get open, are the bottom of the league.

And a run game that can manage more than 1-3 ypc
