Dallas is a playoff team THIS year with Rush as starting QB…

Convince me I'm wrong…
this is why we have to point out how bad Cooper Rush actually is instead of just enjoying him getting playing time in a wasted season.
There are people who think he should start, when really he is an acceptable backup QB. One where if your starter goes out during a game, you can maybe not lose that game.
He's not an NFL starter

Give me a break. An acceptable backup doesn't go 9-4. At minimum he's a badass backup. Saying he's an acceptable backup and may be able to save a game if your starter goes down is so ridiculous. He's 9-4. That's at least a top backup in the league, even if you don't want to say he should get a look as a bottom of the league starter somewhere.

This team still has major deficiencies at WR/RB and in the front 7 of the defense. They've done a whole lot better at minimizing or covering up those deficiencies as the year has gone on.

I'll add this; Rush playing like this does make you really question paying Dak 55+ million, and highlights how good is a play caller McCarthy can be.

He's an excellent backup. There's a drop from Dak, but it's not nearly as wide as some think.

I'd much rather have cooper at $5 million than Dak at $60 million. The gap is not big at all. This year there wasn't even a gap.

There's definitely a drop in the number of interceptions and sacks when Rush is in…

I'll give credit where credit is due; this team has not quit at all when they could absolutely roll over.

regardless of how you feel about McCarthy, you have to give him credit for the guys always playing hard.

This is why I'm still fine with McCarthy. They play hard for him. He is a good enough coach to make Rush look good. Everything wrong with this franchise has little to nothing to do with him. I don't see anyone doing better.

I don't have the advanced stats to back this up, but just from watching it looks like the offensive philosophy is different.

1) there's actually a run game now that they settled on Dowdle as RB1. During the beginning of the season as soon as on e RB would get hot they pull him and put another one in. Now there's consistency and the defense can't key on the passing game

2) pre snap movement and play action seem to be used more frequently than at the start of the season. When there's no run game, there's no play action. Also there's been a lot more pre snap movements and getting players the ball more creatively than relying on Dak dropping back and passing every down

3) they're spreading the ball out more. Tolbert, Cooks, and Turpin are all getting more targets than at the beginning of the season when it was just force feeding Ceedee

All of this stuff is things that fans wanted to see when the cowboys were struggling, and imo doing it all now is a day late and a dollar short. I don't think that Rush is in any way shape or form better than Dak, but comparing them based on the last few games is pointless because of the coaching adjustments from the beginning of the year

I'm starting to wonder if Dak can't run tha type of offense…
DannyDuberstein

Dak isn't mobile anymore, so if he can't run an offense that Cooper Rush can, then that's a problem with the qb vs the offense

This would be you assuming that Rush is the reason they are 9-4, and what I meant by accetpable backup is that you want a QB like him as a backup.
But to pretend like he is even close to Dak is just selective memory.

McCarthy is easily the best coach Dallas has had since Jimmy. Yes, that includes twilight years Parcells. He's gonna finish right around .500 with a roster that has been rendered arguably the worst in football by injuries. Half the two deep right now are guys who would have been on the 2023 Cowboys practice squad (and in some cases were).

It's objectively a great coaching achievement. You be firing him purely out of spite and fatigue at this point, just blindly hoping for something better.

Your arrogance in posting is so old dude. McCarthy ball is trash and you know it. He's not going to get another ring and it's laughable to think he's the direction to get us closer to a title.

Oh yeah, great meaningless win - oh wait, Dallas probably just dropped another draft pick.

And, make no mistake, these guys are playing hard to keep / earn a job for next year.

8-9 only hurts.

Cooper definitely is making the rest of the league looks like imbeciles. He is so limited and yet McCarthy has him winning games. He was downright embarrassing compared to Burrow last week and the Cowboys still almost won.

This season was lost because the defense was absolutely clueless to start the year and then got hit hard by injuries.
Tksymm7

The running game was and still is abysmal. It's not all on having average RBs either. The line has really struggled in run blocking, which for a young group is odd.

And for the "winning games only hurts the draft stock" crowd; the fact of the matter is that this roster and coaching staff, even with injuries, is still far from being one of the top 5 worst teams in the league. When you have a league with the likes of the Raiders, Browns, Jags, Panthers, Giants and Jets, it's going to be hard to be worse, and having a top 5 pick is where the real value is at. Plus, this draft is deep, not top heavy (although Jerry still sucks and has no clue what he's doing anymore).

This is an important sentence. If McCarthy does come back, I hope Zimmer comes back as well. It did take them a while to figure out his scheme but they finally did with mostly backups and have been ever bit as good most weeks as Quinns defense including taking the ball away.

Gutty win and love the fire and physicality the team played with last night…

But where was this when the games mattered earlier in the season?
Games where Dallas was completely out coached and out played on both sides of the ball…..and at home….

The theme of the McCarthy era in Dallas is they have racked up a lot of wins but haven't won when it mattered

I think a big part of it is that they know who they are now, and are as healthy as they've been all year on defense minus Diggs (I would have traded him prior to the injury, but now idk you can), plus the schedule has lightened up.
