Is it a mustache or some sort of face paint? I can't tell. The video seems a little more mustache like. The stills look like paint.
On a side note, I've always been shocked by the number of people who think cameras keep them safe. Hope this dispels that myth.

Nothing really keeps you safe but a good security system does assist you greatly. A doorbell camera isn't a great security systsm

So, if you're going to rob or kidnap someone and choose to walk up to their front door why not have a piece of cardboard over your face/chest or an opened umbrella pointing to the front door for concealment? Then you get parallel with the doorbell camera (against the wall) or reach out from under the concealment and put a piece of tape over the camera then rip if off the wall.

Megyn Kelly had a guy on her show yesterday afternoon... Didn't catch who he was, but based on one of the stories he was telling about dealings in Iraq he's ex military or intelligence... He said you're often better off not paying the ransom, but to keep pressure on them with other means.
Another comment I heard this morning was that ransom negotiations, if they're going to be successful need to be quick and aggressive.
Based on what has been made public via the notes we know about (lets leave the door open that there certainly could be A LOT more behind the scenes) it's been drip drip with little follwo-up from the note senders. This guy was just saying that's not how it works.
I have never not answered my door. And have never had the desire to know who it is prior to answering. Guess I'm just weird.
Living in a wealthy neighborhood that loves complete darkness sure seems like a great target for criminals.

You can see packages that have been delivered too. Very little in terms of security but it is a limited layer of it. Have a doorbell camera that simply serves as your doorbell. Another camera that's higher or more difficult to access and you have enough to scare away at least low level criminals from your front door at least

I think your basic Ring/Nest whatever is great for seeing who is at your front door when you answer or checking on a package that was left.
If you want security then you need eave mounted units that record either to the cloud (or better in my opinion) to a DVR system concealed somewhere inside the home. Getting them on a larger perimeter away from the the direct line of the front door can make them harder to notice and out of reach for tape or spray paint, etc. If they record to a DVR smashing or stealing them won't remove the data and cutting a phone line or internet won't cut the backup. Ultimately everything is about tradeoffs.

I'm not saying it's not, but Nancy Guthrie seems like a very, very odd target.
She has a daughter who is a millionaire. She lives alone. She's old and frail and won't be able too put up too much of a fight. She seems like easy pickings for criminals/cartels looking to make some easy money by holding her for ransom.

Could be but the holster position seems just off for somebody double protecting identity with mask and hood.

Beyond that, you do have to be careful. Criminals could send a young woman or older lady to your door late at night needing help. You open the door and boom a dude or few storm into your now opened door... suddenly youre lucky to get a concussion and be robbed of everything you have
