If I were her, because of her resources (not just financial, but contacts), I'd be planning on hiring people to go after the kidnappers and do things to them we all would want to have done to them.

I think this is a time when the full weight of the U.S. government should be rallied to hunt these people down. If for no other reason but to send a message that you can't do this in our country and get away with it.

We went into Venezuela and nabbed Maduro. We can hunt these criminals down and bring them to justice too

Agree, but if she had some health care workers or landscapers or construction guys with a crazy tie in back to the cartel, she obviously was a pretty easy target. Maybe they were given a payoff for info about her house and schedule. Why not the cartel because if they kidnap her, ask for ransom and never get it, what are they really out?

What I haven't come up with yet is a reason to be back at the daughter's house last night, a week later, taking scene photos and maybe something of interest. Seems odd to be back there for any lead other than trying to clear them.

I was thinking more in line with all the gang robberies of athletes that have happened lately, this woman would make an easy target for gangs who are more into kidnapping than robbing.

Here's my take on the cartel angle.

From cartels' point of view they have a good thing. There is a porous border, a strong demand for illegal drugs and cheap labor north of it, and a lack of a unified political will to really do anything about it. And they have a complete monopoly over it.

To go north of the border and kidnap the elderly mother of a well-known media personality doesn't make a lot of sense in that light. It draws too much attention, and it risks a backlash of the government really doing something about closing off the border.j

I guess I thought they had informal rules about keeping their worst of their activities south of the border. Don't **** where you eat.

I read recently that the cartels have moved on to other criminal revenue generating methods since their human trafficking revenue has been eliminated.

One of those is certainly kidnap/ransom. It has skyrocketed.

The wording is very odd. Why wouldn't you say she is very valuable to us versus "this is very valuable to us".

Billy Bush of all people was on with Lil Doocy this morning. I know he hasn't worked at NBC in a decade, but his spin was that $6 million is nothing to NBC so they will pay and see what happens.

Would NBC pay the ransom? Have they made that offer? Seems like an interesting consideration regarding how this plays out.

It's one thing for Guthrie to come up with $6 million in after tax free cash. It's a minor business expense for NBC and probably a net positive return financially.

Yes, I pray for Nancy Guthrie to be returned safely to her family and this is not meant to take away from that. Just an interesting aspect as most would not have the ability of a giant corp checkbook to pay the ransom.

It would be really really odd, but given the scenario, (close to the border, really easy target with very little security and a rich daughter), maybe they couldn't resist the opportunity...

I wouldn't think they would want to draw this much attention in the US..It might have been some young ones being stupid, and if that is the case, the Cartel might take care of them...

As others have stated, it totally sounded like the family was informed that their mother had passed. Now working to get her back so that the family can celebrate her life and have a proper funeral… "this is valuable to us" and "the only thing that will give us peace."

Yeah, pray this doesn't become a normal thing now. Kidnapping for money was very common in Arizona just a decade ago before the border opened completely for business by Biden, but it wasn't American Citizens getting taken so it wasn't huge news Nationwide.

If she is dead I don't think the kidnappers will risk returning her remains. No reason because you have no real bargaining chips. This whole thing doesn't seem real.

It was one deputy parked blocking the driveway. Then someone in plain clothes arrived and deputy left. Then another deputy arrived followed by what looked to be an investigator. Plain clothes guy and investigator went into the backyard.

If the money is paid and she is returned, there is going to be an explosion of these type cases.

I wouldn't pay or offer to pay. You just enable criminals. Plus if you pay to get the remains, it opens up a new door for ransoms to deliver the dead back.

I would want the full wrath of the US military, FBI, or US marshals on the kidnapper (s) and paying reduces their rage.

Fact that they keep going to the sister's house is most telling to me. I feel like they found something over there and that's what "really" happened, and there's some bad actor across the border or overseas that's just taking advantage of grief.
