Incredible.

With every one of these videos/reactions, I increasingly grow from being annoyed by this show to outright despising it. It really was just a completely worthless endeavor.
also, if the whole plan was to use leia to root out obi wan, they could have had someone tail Bail Organa, b/c in order for obi wan to save leia, he would have to be first contacted. He would have been a sitting duck there at the start.

What's the story with these guys? Are they industry or former industry guys or just super movie fans?

Never mind, from their Wikipedia page:

Red Letter Media, LLC, stylized as RedLetterMedia on YouTube, is an American film and video production company operated by independent filmmakers Mike Stoklasa (formerly of GMP Pictures)[3][4][5] and Jay Bauman (formerly of Blanc Screen Cinema)[citation needed]. The company was formed by Stoklasa in 2004, while he was living in Scottsdale, Arizona, but is now based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (as of 2021). It attracted significant attention in 2009 through Stoklasa's 70-minute video review of the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. The review was posted in seven parts on YouTube, and was presented by his character "Harry S. Plinkett" (often shortened to "Mr. Plinkett"). While Stoklasa had published other video reviews of several Star Trek films before that, his Phantom Menace and subsequent Star Wars prequel reviews were praised for both content and presentation.

I don't think they've ever technically worked in the industry/Hollywood, though I could be wrong. I think they're based in, like, Ohio or somewhere like that, and are just big movie fans, yeah.

Yeah the more I reflect on this it was just... meh. Some nice Obi/Anakin stuff. Lots of silly stuff. Nothing very impactful to the universe... although of course it couldn't really.

At this point, super weird would have been nice.

I had just finished a few episodes of the latest season of The Boys and watching that show makes you realize the crazy fun you can have with sci-fi. Especially with overdone, beaten-down topics. You can play with expectations when you're dealing with well-worn content.

It's the complete antithesis of how they handled Obi-Wan. And most Star Wars content. Just feels like the content is on autopilot and super safe.

Honestly the more I think about it this show was more frustrating than BoBF….not that it was worse than BoBF cause it wasn't….but definitely more frustrating.

When I went in to BoBF it was with lower expectations than Mandalorian just because the whole premise didn't excite me as much. However, the story, acting, writing, (exception to episodes 5 & 6) were awful even with lower expectations.

But with Kenobi, I'd say EVERYONES expectations were at their HIGHEST for this show. Even more than Mandalorian S2 due to the characters, casting, hype, etc. And yes there were some neat moments throughout the series, but good grief the low points were very…VERY LOW. And even more frustrating overall the overall story that was written was good…..the execution of it was pretty poor

I haven't seen The Boys yet (I really need to), but I had the same thing happen watching Stranger Things and The Old Man simultaneously. One is obviously sci-fi/fantasy and the other is a similarly-themed show about a badass old man past his prime pulled back into the game/being hunted, and when you watch all episodes of all three shows (including Obi-Wan) in the same week, it's blatantly obvious that the latter is so much worse than the other two in comparison, on nearly every level.

Than again, apparently I can't think for myself, and neither can you, and we're all just miserable Star Wars haters or whatever, never mind the fact that I love Rogue One, Solo, and a good chunk of The Mandalorian, and have been extremely vocal on all three.

Composer Natalie Holt Explains Why 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Didn't Rely On Classic Themes From The Saga

Quote:

Most of the series' musical composition was strictly Holt's with some assistance from director Deborah Chow. At first, Chow was not sure if John Williams would allow them to use his music in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it took some time before he responded to their inquiry. Holt explained:

"Deborah Chow was saying to me, ' I think we need to score the show as if we're not going to be able to use [John Williams' themes]. I don't want to find out we can't, so let's make it work without. Let's do our own thing."

That doesn't make any sense to me. Is Williams a recluse that can't be reached?

It's nice to know that John Williams has that much control over his music (or perceived control). You'd think Disney would own all the rights.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yeah, that's super weird. How does Disney not own the rights to the music in Star Wars? And if they truly don't, how on earth is *that* the process to get approval? Whenever they inquire, Disney just may or may not hear back from John Williams? Really? He doesn't have reps that handle this sort of stuff specifically? That can't be.
twilly

The better question is why didn't Lucas not own it from the very beginning? He made sure to control everything else like merchandising and residuals.

Was there a special carve out for JW? Or does JW have a right of refusal for it's use?

This shows a problem with bigger problem the show. How is securing John Williams music not one of the most important things to do when making any Star Wars content?
You'd think before starting making Obi-Wan they call two people: McGregor and Williams.
Anyone who doesn't think to call Williams early and get his music doesn't understand Star Wars.

Exactly.

John Williams is Star Wars.

Exactly. The second I'm off the phone with McGregor, I'm calling Williams. Like, back in 2016 or whenever they officially started this thing. I'm seriously shocked that this is how things operate at Lucasfilm. Actually, I take that back. It would explain sooooo much, but it still blows my mind.

Officially cancelled Disney +. Obi-Wan had pretty much already made that decision for me, but finishing The Boys and seeing the massive gap in quality put the nail in the coffin.

Disney's current production value is garbage. I have no doubt that their emphasis on diversity in their shows is also reflective of their hiring practices. It is painfully obvious they are not hiring the people with the most talent. It's a shame.

It actually just bugs me more if THAT'S the reason they didn't use John Williams ' music rather than some creative reason.

And the wheel of time had to fight through COVID restrictions during production. Obi Wan doesn't have an excuse.
