Force healing was dumb because it completely rendered the prequels moot.

The reason Anakin fell to the dark side was because he wanted to find a way to save Padme. Turns out, not only did this power exist, but it was a light side power.

So either A) the Jedi kept this power from Anakin, or B) Rey somehow discovered something that the entire Jedi Council and the history of the Jedi Order had never discovered before.

Either way, it's incredibly dumb. Almost as dumb as bringing the Emperor back offscreen with a single line in the opening scroll text.
In fantasy fiction (and let's be honest, SW has more in common with fantasy epics than sci-fi), one of the indicators of quality has to be consistency in the "magic" system. Whether it's chanting in Latin, magic wands, weapons imbued with souls, god-touched divines, conversion of metals to energy by digesting them, or The One Ring, an interesting magic system has to have rules. Breaking a rule is essentially the same as a miracle (q.v. C.S. Lewis), and should therefore be rare. Jedi/Sith powers have always been dictated by what the story needed to get the characters out of a scrape. That's a shame IMO. Write yourself into a corner? No problem, just invent a new or long-forgotten Jedi force power to get out.
Preach!

For any of you who really want to geek out, Brandon Sanderson has some lectures from a class he taught a few years back now, and one of the classes covers this in great and interesting detail.

Me waking up in 4.5 hours and checking this thread. Is it safe? Is the episode alright?
Assuming it's 90 minutes long like we're thinking, here's your timeline for this thread

2 A.M.

230 ish when they give us what we have waited 6 episodes for

2:45 a.m. - Spilner when someone makes a Padme reference.

2:55 a.m. - The whole world when Ani-Obi Round 3 starts

3 a.m. People eating their words when Obi-Wan gets his groove back and starts whipping Vader's ass.

3:30 a.m. I smile happily and proclaim it a great episode

3:31 a.m. TexAgs lets me know how stupid I am for liking this show.

every second of every day on this thread until Andor comes out

Would it have been cheesy if she chose to attack him while he was using all of his power to hold the ship and keep it from leaving? That would have actualy been the smart time to attack Vader, and it would have resulted in him letting Obi-Wan go.

I'm not near the Star Wars buff some of you are, but I'm finding myself wanting Disney to dial back the cheap fan service just a tad with Star Wars content. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on that.

I don't feel bad at all about ragging on Ep 1-4. Mostly pretty bad with some exceptions.

I stopped posting after that because honestly I did not want to be the a-hole crapping on what clearly so many of you were enjoying.

I genuinely liked Ep5 for the most part. And the Reva character was definitely growing on me. And they seemed to stop emphasizing little Leia so much, that helped.

all that said. Ep6 is literally very close to OT greatness. It is that good. And I came to understand what Spilner was saying and I didn't really get it before because I am just not a movie guy. THis series needed infusion of OT music. Would have made a huge difference. We got a little in Ep6 and was epic.

Not often up this late. My business is super busy in the fall and winter, drops off a little in spring, and in mostly dormant in summer. So I waited this out and so glad I did. I just wish they could have put 50% as much care in to the first 4-5 episodes.

Well, that was a nice finale.

That was a pretty great Vader/Obi battle. Had shades of the Vader/Asohka battle from Rebels.

I feel that Vader's line of "You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker, I did", was to give some credence to what Ben tells Luke in IV.

Nice that we got to see Beru. She's a fighter!

Nice to see Qui-Gon at the end. Wouldn't have minded seeing/hearing a little bit more from him.

I'm not sure I made sense of what Reva was doing. What a mess of a character.

Hayden stole the show, smiling when he tells Obiwan that he is the one who killed Anakin. The music played well at the end. I teared up when Obiwan told Leia goodbye. It still busts me up that Carrie Fisher is gone, even 5.5 years later. Loved how Obiwan ****ed Vader up, going after his suit. And then walked away from him.

And used the line "I will do what I must" from the Mustafar duel.

While all the usual issues apply… this episode still looked like sh*t, the shaky cam drove me insane, the dialogue was clunky, certain things made no sense, etc… this was *at least* the first competent episode of the series, IMO, one that featured two legitimately great moments…

- Hayden through the gash in his helmet, his voice oscillating between his own and Darth Vader's. Just phenomenal stuff there between him and Obi-Wan.

- Qui-Gon at the end, not having been there to help Obi-Wan find the strength to overcome his trials - Obi-Wan had to do that on his own - but there to train him once he did. Such a great, thematic touch, and an incredibly nostalgic appearance.

It also helped that we FINALLY got an episode of a Star Wars Disney+ series in which MULTIPLE storylines were happening in MULTIPLE settings, and we were constantly cutting back and forth between them. You know, like an actual, competent TV show!

Granted, Reva was still terrible, nor was it at all clear what she wanted until the very end - to *kill* Luke for whatever reason (as opposed to kidnapping him or wanting to tell him about his father or whatever). And what the hell did they even tell Luke as to why he was just chased down by some scary lady with a lightsaber? Wouldn't that make him question nearly everything about who he is and why anyone would want him?

Anyway, at least this series went out on a relatively competent note, and didn't *completely* sh*t the bed. Though how it ever got to this point will be forever beyond me…

Loved it. The fight was so well shot and the scenes of the destroyer felt right out of the OT

Also the parallel with Ahsoka and Obi damaging the helmet chilled me

If this series didn't have the shaky cam and used some of the actual music I think it would have been much better. We couldn't hear duel of the fates one time??

Also guess we are getting a Reva spinoff series

Trailer was the biggest cock tease when you consider the music used.

A rough timeline of me watching the finale, gifed.

When I realized it was only 50 minutes rather than 90:

When I heard the chase music from ESB right off the bat:

When Vader and Obi-Wan are about to throw down with 35 minutes left:

Obi-Wan says "I will do what I must" and does his attack stance from ROTS:

When I realized we still wouldn't get a Duel of the Fates needle drop:

Obi-Wan sees Anakin behind the mask and hears his voice:

When the Imperial March finally played:

When Obi-Wan describes Leia's parents to her, set to Leia's Theme:

"Hello there":

When Qui-Gon's force ghost started to appear in the distance:

Overall, that wasn't quite everything I wanted this finale (and this series) to be, but I felt that was just about everything we could've hoped for given the previous 5 episodes.

As usual I do have some nitpicks, but nothing that kills the episode for me.

Biggest ones are how uninteresting the choice of landscape was for the final duel (yet again), the lack of Duel of the Fates / Battle of the Heroes / any other Williams music for the fight, and how trivial Qui-Gon's cameo seemed. (It felt like it was kind of thrown in at the last minute once Liam Neeson finally agreed to appear, but he played no role in the story or in Obi-Wan's journey. I think most of us were hoping he was gonna play an important role in his arc, especially after how hard they teed it up throughout the show.)

But again, given everything that led up to this episode, I'm fairly well satisfied overall.

As for the show as a whole, I guess I would say that I enjoyed it, but it doesn't quite feel as necessary as I'd hoped it would. It didn't really change much in the end, which I suppose isn't a bad thing, but it wasn't quite as impactful for me as I was hoping it would've been. Still, I enjoyed the moments I was supposed to for the most part, but still left disappointed with the potential of what could've been. I give it a B-.

I think the one lesson learned we can all agree on is that if you come to TC's company with a script featuring shaky-cam footage, he will murder you in his own office.

Loved this episode. The lightsaber fight. Vader's voice going between his and Anakin's. The tension of Owen and Veru defending their home. Qui Gon.

Wish the series could have gotten to a good spot better, but this episode definitely felt right.

I really like the James & Lily Potter vibes I got from Owen and Beru - especially Beru really identifying as Luke's mother figure/protector and deciding that holding their ground was better than running away. It gave me the feeling she would have done the same thing had it been a Star Destroyer landing outside their house.

I watched about half of it again this morning. Still lots to think about. Hayden's performance in the suit was really great. His conversation with Palpatine probably solidifies a second season of Obi-Wan more than anything else, because Palpatine is clearly telling Vader "drop it." Meaning if Obi-wan Kenobi was moving around the galaxy on another mission, it wouldn't be with Vader blindly pursuing him.

A fine alternate take of the end would have been Obi-Wan seeing Qui-Gon's ghost and going insane. "Where the f8ck have you been! I had to fight Anakin twice! You couldn't show up and mention he's alive? Talk to me a couple of times instead of letting me drop into a massive decade long depression?"
