Surely he has to be aware of Inquisitors hunting Jedi and he should be prepared to handle them if they discover Luke. They do target Force sensitive children.

In the show we see Kenobi struggle to "reactivate" the Force. He could barely stop Leia from falling to her death.
I don't think it follows that he would have to be aware of the Inquisitors. They didn't exist when he went in to hiding, and Tatooine is a backwater that isn't really under Imperial control at this point. Even if the Inquisitors were common knowledge, which they most likely aren't, its doubtful much if any information about them would reach Tatooine.

Staying hidden would be a more effective survival strategy than preparing for the worst.

I do question the decision to have him live in a cave rather than in the homestead he's in in ANH. I assume they really just wanted to drive home what a crappy existence he's lead for 10 years, but I think it was obvious already.

Edit: I suppose part of his arc in the show will be that he's no longer "hiding" at the end. I guess it would also support the fact that he is openly using force powers by the time of ANH.

Why would he be aware of the Inquisitors? He goes into hiding immediately after the Fall of the Republic. He's been in isolation for 10 years and it looks like he has had the same routine for that 10 years. Keep his head down and stay out of sight. I doubt he hangs out in the cantina and catches up on Galactic news.

He works around other people. He visits the town. It's not ridiculous at all that he would hear news of some kind.

He'd be a fool to not try and at least keep at least some open ears about what's going on. Specifically in the interest of making sure Luke is safe.

Asking questions about the Empire on an outlaw planet is a great way for a person trying to stay hidden from the Empire to get the wrong kind of notice.

So the only way to get information is to ask questions?

You know Palpatine had the Holonet monitored for all sorts of search terms.

"Jedi underground location"

"How do I contact a friend with big green ears"

"tips and tricks for showing someone how to use the Force without alerting the Empire"

Admittedly the funniest thing to me was right after fumbling with the laser gate, they show an aerial shot with a clear open area to walk around the gate. Could've been out of a parody.

I really thought it had been done on purpose, like the guy running right into the branch while chasing Leia.
It was like the toll booth in Blazing Saddles.

Someone on another site has mentioned that the Mother and Son helped out by the fake Jedi in Episode 2 are listed in the credits as Nyche and Corran.

For us EU/Rogue Squadron geeks, that's Corran Horn, whose mother in the EU is named Nyche.

I don't love the change that implies for his backstory if they actually end up using the character for a Rogue Squadron project, but they could still have him end up a cop on Corellia at some point in the future. It's not a terrible change though considering his grandfather was a Jedi and his father could at least have been considered a padawan, so having them trying to escape the Empire makes sense in that context.

So I was watching this video (a long watch that I don't expect anyone except the hardest of hardcore nerds will actually watch), and check out the the 1:04:07 mark.

Ben's dialogue in the original script:

"This is a fight you cannot win, Darth. I have grown much since our parting. If my blade finds its mark, you will cease to exist. But if you cut me down, I will only become more powerful. Heed my words."

Now this isn't technically canon of course, but it completely recontextualizes that entire exchange, to where Obi-Wan could potentially lose their next encounter.

Found that interesting.

Dang. I hate piling on as I want these shows to be awesome, but man this series is garbage. It fails from almost every angle. Bad dialogue, bad acting, terrible cinematography, direction, pacing and editing. Not sure what there is to like other than it's live action Star Wars that includes Vader and lightsabers. If this was a totally new sci-if show people would just say it sucks and move on, but I get that people want to come up with infinite reasons to like it because it's Star Wars. But damn, it's just not very good. It's just an eye roll and snooze fest so far with a couple cool shots of Vader that themselves are forgettable due to the technical execution, or lack thereof…. Rant over.

Some people also have infinite expectations before these series come out because it's star wars. We are very gifted at forgetting what has been released before it, and always expect that THIS will be the one that is excellently made.

Re: the cinematography

I'm watching Stranger Things and it's crazy how much better this show looks. How is it that this show can look better than Obi-Wan? Should not be the case. Alas...

Deborah Chow is doing less with more, and so far has been a major disappointment. She was given the keys to a Formula 1 racer and is driving it around the track at 45 MPH.

In perusing her IMDB profile, she's been a director of episodes for many series I love and I've seen her work and it was good. But directing random episodes for a series where the tone, story arc and character development has been well established is different from doing it from scratch.

Her and Moses Ingram and, to a lesser extent the writers, have completely fumbled the Reva character. If she wasn't such a prominent character it wouldn't bother me so much but they created her for a reason and she sucks.

There are some bright spots and I'm along for the ride in the hopes that somehow it gets much better.

i have a strong feeling we're gonna get some combination of:

Palps, Qui-gon, Yoda, Kanan, Cal, Mace (force ghost surprise…was last Jedi to see "Anikan")

I'm pumped I don't care what the nay-sayers say
