Also, Olivia Cooke took over this thing within two scenes. She is killing it.

i like her....however since there was so much debate about replacements.....

Older Rhanaerya is more like her younger version than older Allicent is like her younger version. In behavior I mean.

But of course 10 years have passed but Allicent is much more assertive. A downright ***** really. While the older Rhanerya, to me, seems much more like her younger self. Still very snarky in her replies and sharp tongued. Put upon as well. Allicent has 10 years of being the queen though so perhaps it is just that. she is now used to getting what she wants (except where the king is concerned) as opposed to her more humble demeanor we saw in the first few episodes.

Of the two though Allicent is just about that personal drama.... Rhaenrya is playing the game and knows when to pack up and move.

We got a classic chick fight here on a massive level when it goes down.

And we needed a villain well..... Larys delivers. What a ****ing evil snake.

I don't recall the younger Rhaenara being so vulgar in speech. The first few scenes of the older version she was talking like the Hound.

I didn't read the novel but did the other Valyrian house disappear by the time of GOT? How will they explain that whole house being absent in the future?

I mean that wasn't surprising given
a. she was 10 years older, been through a lot and a lot has gone down in the family
b. kids tend to stifle swearing but as adults they often use it a lot more
c. she was in the middle of childbirth and in a lot of pain and asked to trudge her ass up to the queen

I don't really understand why Rhaenyra couldn't just walk in on one of her husband's sessions with his knight, do "her duty" when it was time, and leave. Would certainly be safer than getting pregnant by someone with black hair.

Also, i kind of wish we'd gotten an explanation on two things.

1. How the hell Ser Criston's actions at the wedding did not get him arrested or sentenced to death.
2. How and why Daemon's ED suddenly wasn't an issue.

One issue I have that reflects on show quality relative to GoT:

Aegon's infatuation with servant girls his strongly hinted at with giggling girls outside of his chambers, getting distracted by them when training, etc. We get to see him rubbing on out on his window ledge.

In original GoT, the sex would have been more on the nose and he would have been bedding them, and we'd get random servant youthful d cups in the process.

Clear reflection of wokeness run amuck.

Larys went off the deep end there. The queen hints that she wants someone on her side. So he creates a secret assassin squad to kill his father and brother.

Also, creating a secret assassin squad with a unique identifying trait (cut off tongue) and giving them all matching bug pins that matches the symbol on your cane doesn't seem like a good idea to keep your assassin squad secret for long.

Anyone else a little disappointed about the time jumps and new casting? I knew it was coming and know why they are doing it so we can get to everything that's about to happen, but damn I really liked the actors that played younger Rhaenyra and Alicent. The actor playing older Alicent seems really good so far, but the jump in Rhaenyra's just didn't land for me. Felt like they are now two totally different people from episodes 1-5 to now.

I was really disappointed by this episode, and even the last. Again, I understand why they are speeding through all of this so far, but I think a part of me misses the slow burn of GoT where characters have room to breathe and you can learn about them slowly and see them progress over time. So far this feels like a Marvel movie. Yeah the action is great and a lot of cool stuff is going on, but we are trying to jam everything into three hours and hope it makes sense at the end and not worry so much about the little things and just be like "hey didn't you like all that dragon stuff and how we killed those people?" Wasn't it great???"

What made original GoT great was that all the little stuff mattered -- so far this feels like the last couple seasons of GoT and not the original GoT that I fell in love with. I guess all the new GoT spinoffs will be like this so they can tell the story in 2-4 seasons and be on to the next.

I was concerned about the jump in actresses for Rhaenyra based on casting photos, etc. but I think she nailed the character. They don't look exactly alike (like the actresses for Alicent somehow do) but I got past it really quickly.

Family tree without spoilers. Obviously there should be some asterisks on Rhaenyra's kids. Dragon accounting below.

so a friend that has spent mote time on got lore than I did studying in school has said that Rhaenyra never really regained her beauty after her first child, so looking similar but not as close as the alicent actresses is accurate to the books.

I am sad about the change in actors, but I'm going to give the new ones time. One thing that helps is looking at them almost like new characters within the context of the story. They're 10 years older which has led to numerous changes in their personalities.

Alicent has been stewing for 10 years after the conversation with her father. On top of that, she has watched Rhaenyra continue to act recklessly with Viserys dismissing it all.

Rhaenyra is now a mother of 3, more involved in politics, etc. I agree with whoever said that she is dumb for not trying the Margery-Renly-Loras method of getting pregnant by Laenor. I actually would've liked more info on whether they did try and just couldn't conceive. If they didn't try, they're both dumb as ***** Rhaenyra is already facing challenges to her rule, so having *******s really doesn't help.

I'm choosing to believe that this show believed so much in the core story that they felt all this backstory was absolutely necessary to make the show work.

This was basically a five episode "previously on" to set up where we are now. These next few episodes are going to be where we know if this show is any good or not.

And the servant girls he was leering at were 5s at best.

I question #1 as well. Dude smashed a guy's head in like a pumpkin at the Princesses wedding reception in front of the whole court and every nobleman in the country and gets promoted. Rhaenerys' baby daddy beat Ser Cristin up with only a few witnesses and he gets banished.

"Spoilers" from A Song of Ice and Fire main novels. I have not read Fire & Blood.

Robert's Rebellion happened. The Valaryon's sided with the Targaryens and therefore, their traditional role in the realm (Master of Ships) was lost and held by Stannis Baratheon during the events of the series Game of Thrones. The house is still around, they just dont have a role worth creating a character for and putting it in the TV show at that point. The current Lord of House Valaryon is generally with Stannis during the events of the novels because they are bannermen of Dragonstone.

Another ******* Valaryon is captured by the Baratheon\Lannister armies during the Battle of the Blackwater, named Aurane Waters who gets pardoned for fighting for Stannis. Cersei says he looks like Rheagar Targaryen and she makes him master of ships for Tommen. Last heard from in the books taking the fleet out to sea away from King's Landing when Cersei is imprisoned.

Criston is a Kingsguard. You don't put your hands on them.

On the other hand, Criston, as a Kingsguard, can definitely put on his hands on some dude who he can claim insulted the king's or the princess' honor in whatever way, and there's not much anyone can say, especially when the Queen says "I want him as my personal body guard."

It's the queen who found him and brought him into her circle. She could make up whatever she wants about the guy he killed to justify it.

I assume all of that was done mostly to give Laenor a good reason not to side with the queen at some point.

I thought the new Rhaenyra did well. Both actresses played a good balance of being somewhat emotionally cold where they realize the transactional and strategic nature of politics ultimately comes above the heart, but still give in at times. Both strong. I definitely felt as if I was watching the same character

The only issue with the time jump I have is that Criston didn't age a second while everyone else did. He looks exactly the same. At least give him a little grey hair or something.

This episode was definitely a little jarring. Hopefully now that we're done speedrunning the backstory, and all the pieces seem to be in place, more or less, the story will settle into a more reasonable pace. And we won't be switching in new actors every episode.

I don't know. 15 to 25 is a massive change. 25ish to 35ish, not so much. They tried to give him more of a haircut, but he's still not a middle aged dude

The show is heating up and I like it.

  • Daemon seemed content being away from Westeros, but now losing his wife will changes things.
  • I understand Alicent's stress level, I just wish the actress played it a bit more subtle.
  • Larys is a psycho.
  • Regarding Laenor/Rhaenyra...maybe they tried to breed but he is shooting blanks? That's why she went with Harwin?
  • I am sleeping with a hatchet from now on, because I don't want to go out like Harwin.

Laenor said, while discussing the having of children, "I've done my duty for 10 years". Which implies they've tried to have kids. But the seed is apparently Strong.

Loved this episode. Vhagar was cool AF. I guess Daemon's "performance" issues was strictly related to disinterest in anyone but his relatives. So I guess that lends credence to the fact that he just decides not to go through with his desire of Rhaenyra vs an inability.

Aegon* jerking it out the same window tommen took a swan dive off of gave new meaning to "Kings Landing".

RIP Harwin.

It looks like we just got our new Cersei and Joffrey (also literally got a new Joffrey).

Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke are gonna kill this show.

In one of the last shots of the episode, with Rhaenyra and her family on the wall/walkway thing to Dragonstone, I could have swore the newborn had white hair, implying that Laenor at least fathered that one.
