Is there enough interest to start a separate show thread for book readers to discuss things?

Obviously, all are still welcome to post here, but for some, posting things or even generally discussing things in the show can become spoilers one way or another. Posters easily learn who has read the books, and I think SOME (very few) then start looking for those posters to post, just so they can complain. (Happens on all threads like this).

I've tried to write responses and add commentary but I just feel that anything I say will be slanted and it'll end up taking me forever to try and wordsmith it in such a way that it reveals nothing.

They wanted Shireen to still be cute and endearing to the audience so we would all rightfully hate Stanis.

Davos' reaction still makes me sad

Not going to lie, as a dad with a little girl (now bigger), her screaming in that scene brings me to tears. It's getting dusty just thinking about it. Phenomenal job by the show runners on that one.

Well there's definitely enough interest to not discuss book spoilers here, I'll say that much.

I'm just posting about things I see on the episodes rather than what I know from the books after getting shamed for posting a link to an EW article containing something described in the preview for the next episode. I will participate in a book thread. But then someone will click on it accidentally and be furious so just pick your poison

The thread police won't throw you in jail for starting a Game of Thrones book discussion thread to discuss that kind of thing. If no one responds to that thread, then no discussions to be had. Hell, I don't think there's anything wrong with posting in here, if you spoiler tag that stuff.

I'm sure when Sanderson's stuff starts being adapted, I will probably be posting in the show thread as well as the Sanderson thread with all the other readers to discuss things from a book perspective.

I recall the book/spoiler threads in the early seasons of GOT.

Problem was some non book readers would peruse the spoiler thread and then bring stuff over to the non spoiler thread by way of educated "predictions". We (I was a book reader) called out several on that, but it was pretty unmanageable. Even in some cases just saying there were spoilers like that caused people to assume certain predictions were spoilers based on that and so it was spoiled.

Speaking of the early days of GoT, were any of you guys there when GGRM came and spoke at A&M in 2013? Think it was in March. A friend got me tickets, and me and a coworker went up there. Since psycho fandom wasn't nearly what it is today, I still marvel at the fact that GGRM allowed the people at that auditorium the chance to see the Season 3 premiere of GOT NINE DAYS before it came out on HBO.

Also, - not spoilers, just a warning, all of those "they talked about it on the original show" stuff - there's a massive 20-minute video on YouTube from the 5th season Blu-Ray that tells the entire story of all of it, and it's narrated by the actress who plays Shireen, the actor who play Viserys (crown for king edition), and several others. So if you see something in your feed that says "The Dance of Dragons by Shireen, Viserys & Others" don't watch it unless you want to know everything!

Haven't read the books, but I have previously seen the full family tree. Do not know how people ended up where they are or what order things happens in, but it should be interesting to watch in the next few episodes.

Same here. I will say that some of the family trees I have seen are obviously wrong... even to someone like me who has not read the books.

Yeah the family tree gives a few things away. Best avoided for the spoiler conscious.

We saw the Starbucks cup streaming live. It was quick, but unmistakable when we went back a few frames. It absolutely happened.

Im not saying it didnt happen, I just wonder how many of us on the thread catch it live vs seeing a tweet or an article about it.

I wasn't too impressed with the king from the first 2 episodes but dang, the writers and actor really made you care for Viserys in the 3rd episode. Also, the actor playing Lannister was fully channeling his inner Thor (from the first Thor movie).

Do you guys see Rhaenyra letting the white hart go as a sign she isn't meant to be queen or was the simple fact it appeared to her a sign that she should be queen? I can see it either way.

I took it positively that she saw it and the hunters and king did not. Plus add that to her killing the boar bare handed covered in blood I'd assume those are positive foreshadows for her. But not sure, just a guess

And Daemon too. The King is the only one who didn't get his hands dirty.

Watching GoT I already started caring about and rooting for some of the characters like Ned and Tyrion after a few episodes. After a few episodes of this show I don't feel like I care about or am rooting for anyone.

I took that whole scene as he was pretty disappointed with the act and felt worthless killing an animal caught by others and tied up. Plus it took a second stab to kill it

SIDE BAR:

How can I watch the inside the episode segments? Wife and I watched GOT streaming years later so those were always on the end of the episode. We have HBO in our package now and when I record the show that isnt at the end, just rolls into the re-air of the episode.

Are those Inside the Episode clips only on HBO Max?

I am rooting for ranera, and even the cousin showed serious balls. The guardian knight is a good character. Even the king is somewhat sympathetic at this point, knowing he's rotting away on all fronts.

We are 3 episodes in people. I'd have to go back and watch GOT season 1 to recall, but I can't imagine we were all attached to Tyrion after 3 episodes. It was probably around the 3rd episode when we are made to believe Tyrion was the one who tried to kill Bran. So there were probably plenty of people rooting against Tyrion.

I mean 3 episodes in why were we rooting for Ned Stark exactly? Episode 1 he didn't want to go be the Hand. Episode 2 he leaves for Kings Landing with Bran laying in bed. Episode 3 has he even made it to Kings Landing yet? Why were we rooting for him at that point?

I don't "root" for anyone in Succession. They all seem like miserable people. But it's my favorite show on TV and I can't wait for the next season. It's just good story telling. Same with HOTD. No true protagonist yet, but still a great show.

I think where Ned won over show watchers was his receptiveness to Arya's tomboyishness and getting her a fencing instructor, refusing to participate in an assassination attempt on Daenerys, etc - all of that comes after the first three episodes I believe.

We sort of look back with rose colored glasses but it did take about 4-5 episodes for our sympathies to be established.
Only Jon and Dany are more instantly likeable as Jon is this overlooked motherless kid who wants to live up to his dad's sense of honor after signing up to join a penal colony, and Dany is pushed into a forced marriage by her abusive brother where she has to teach her husband not to rape her.
