Seconded. The GOT conversation can end with: books rocked; GRRM will never finish; series was awesome, then sucked, then ended with exponentially more suck. Done.

Now - HOD was good to very good. I didn't like the music as much - it was more of a character in the show that won't be named anymore. I do like that it's not clear who we are supposed to "root for". It makes the scheming better.

Id like to make a motion....to stop making this thread about GoT and keep it aimed at HotD please. It is a different cast, different characters, different writers, different directors different producers and GRRM is involved. Can we give it a break already?
Was using the GoT Tourney to make a point about knights killing each other in the HotD tourney

The shows are obviously linked. To expect zero discussion of GoT is pretty silly. You can gain better understanding of one show by better understanding the other show. I guess you could do what we did during GoT where we started a thread for book readers and a separate thread for those who only wanted to hear about the show. No one is stopping you from starting a thread that requires no one talk about GoT...

Yeah I think the request is a little silly and seems like being overly sensitive.

You can't watch a Star Wars prequel or sequel and not expect the OT to ever come up. This is the same universe, the same houses, etc.

(Also the two series DO share multiple directors, fyi.)

Similarities and tie backs about BOTH shows or as a few posts above noted discussing one joust vs another is nothing...it at least involves HotD

The request I made which has stars so folks apparently agree...was directed at the numerous posts who have nothing to say about HotD but only constantly bash on GoT we get it, it ended badly. if you'd like to continue to discuss it alone and how you hated the end etc. go do it on the old GoT threads.

I thought your request was a bit sensitive as well, but 100% on board with not re-hashing people's feelings on GOT ending.

As for HOTD, I just hope boobs.

This is what I seconded. Perpetual griping about GRRM and the final 2-3 seasons of GOT can go on that old thread. Discussion of any of the books and how the world developed from HOD to Robert and then Dany is great.

I don't disagree with that suggestion. Your original post made it seem as though you wanted no mention of GoT which I thought to be impossible for this thread.

But my impression, especially after the 2nd viewing, is that Daemon isn't a bad dude at all. He's restless, impulsive, resentful and full of ego, and that makes sense for a 2nd born prince who's much more a warrior than his brother the king.

But I don't believe he'd conspire against Viserys, I think he loves his brother. When he told the king "You're weak Visery" and that the council knew and preyed upon that, it seemed really sincere. He also seemed to be sincere at the funeral. He's just a flawed guy, not a bad guy.

We'll see.

GRRM has gone on record saying Daemon is/was his favorite Targ to write. Tyrion is his favorite character overall, but Daemon is his favorite Targaryen. and for a guy that likes morally complex and gray characters, i think that says something.

My only beef with the way that character was this episode was the "heir for a day" part could have been better.

Would have been good if he didn't really want to give a speech, but his boys kind of hyped him up into it and then he instantly regretted saying the "heir for a day" line. As it was, it kind of seemed like he cared about his family in one scene, but then didn't at all in the next.
Lets just point out, we never actually saw him say it. thats what was reported to King Viserys by Otto and his "sources", but we never actually saw it. Now Daemon didnt dispute it, but neither did he confirm he said it either. i think we were meant to wonder if he did and im sure it will come up again.

This. Daemon seemed very down in that scene, like he didn't want to be celebrating. It wouldn't shock me if he didn't say it, and that he was just mad at his brother for not trusting him. I'm leaning towards that he did say it, but it wouldn't shock me if he didn't. I heard a podcast mention this point as well and that it sort of aligns with the way the books were written. There were certain events that happened, but several different accounts of HOW they happened. Which is why GRRM and the show runners have some leeway with where to go in the actual show.

FTR, I typed Dougal and my phone autocorrected to Douglas. Did it again in this post. I just didn't notice it in the first.

Enjoyed first episode. Liked the ice and fire prophecy and thinking how Robert messed it all up. Not crazy about the princess actress but like the other Targs.

Nope he killed Tywin's wife/his mom when he was born. One of the reasons Tywin always hated him.

That's a good point, but I don't see the motivation for not disputing it if that's the case.

You're right though, I shouldn't say it could have been better until we fully see how it plays out, but I just thought that would have been a very GOT moment to have him do something that he didn't really want to do and then have it backfire on him.

i could very much see that it was said, but with a sincerity of loss. and in typical fashion, his words/tone are misrepresented to make him look like he said it like he was happy for the baby's death.
