Hush money, and get her to leave Kings Landing.
Just totally playing devil's advocate just for fun - but the money could be to put her mind at ease, so she would feel more comfortable drinking the tea and that everything would be okay. (But I feel that if that was the case, they would have done a little more to reinforce it - like hearing a body drop).

But yeah, most definitely just Plan T. And Brian - yeah, that was weird, but I agree with you that it was probably just comforting her daughter and sorry that she got cheated on again or just that she has to be married to this schmuck.

I did think Alicent was starting to give off being Cersei vibes with the "sweetling" talk etc. My wife turned to me and said "she gone" when Alicent did that.

To make her compliant. She drinks the tea. She dies. You take the coins back & dispose of the body.

I thought it was poison... and the gold was to pacify her so that she would take the poison tea.

I could have sworn I heard a muffled "gurgle" that sounded like a death choke that happened off camera.

Tangentially related to HOTD and A&M- just saw that Aggie actor Marc Menchaca married Lena Headey (Cersei) this weekend in Italy

That's awesome.

In 2016, I met her then-roommate at Comic-Con - he was a friend of a friend - and he was one of the weirdest, loudest, most obnoxious people I've ever met. I had to have drinks with him on some rooftop bar for like an hour and I could not get away from him fast enough. It was a platonic relationship (this dude was *not* an attractive person), and I think they each had a kid or something and decided to live together? I can't quite can't remember the situation, I just remember it making absolutely no sense.

Point is, I'm glad she got out of that situation and actually ended up marrying an Aggie.

No, he was dorkier than that. Gave off a big "spaz" vibe. Dark hair, but a little longer.

I understand it can be interpreted either way, but I absolutely thought Alicent poisoned/killed her with that drink. There were too many knowing looks, and too much dread in the scene. IMO, that was Alicent "playing the game," like her father so proudly talked about at the end of episode seven. I thought the whole point was to show how ruthless and "good" at the game she had become in the years since.

I thought HBO/GoT was typically a little more overt with those kinds of deaths.

Haven't seen it mentioned before - unless I missed it - but ...

I laugh every time they show Otto and I think - man - he's come a long way from Notting Hill ....

Bout the same.

Robert died in Ep. 7

Viserys died in Ep. 8

But Viserys was a walking corpse in Ep. 8 so...

I definitely agree that it was Plan T, but the only thing that seemed weird was the hug to her daughter at the end of the scene. It could be either sympathetic for her ******* husband, or for the fact that she is about to lose her servant / possibly friend?

It's 100% a "sorry you had to marry this piece of ****" hug in my opinion

Yea, i got the same vibe. Imagine how you'd feel if your son raped your grandchildren's nanny? Pretty messed up situation she didn't have the capacity to respond to.

Also, I don't think Alicent is capable of outright murdering someone (yet). [Yes, i understand she pulled a dagger on a kid, but that was in the throws of passion/anger. I don't think she'd actually murder a child for being victimized by her own son in cold blood.]

Overall I just think the tea was a call back to Rhaeneyra's own 'plan T' and the fact that Alicent doesn't need any basterds within her own family tree.

Random question: Do y'all think Daemon killed Vaemond for calling the kids '"basterds" or for calling Rhaeneyra a "wh0re"?

Or was it both/either.

Just saw that the director of the episode confirmed it was just a plan B tea: https://www.elitedaily.com/entertainment/what-happened-dyana-house-of-the-dragon-director-explained

Thanks for posting that. When the girl said that she wouldn't tell anyone and the queen said, "I know you won't," I definitely got a Cersi vibe. I thought the actress did an excellent job of playing a scared and seriously traumatized victim as well.

Haven't seen anybody mention Helaena's "Beware the beast beneath the boards" comment at the dinner. In the beginning of the episode it seemed to be pretty deliberate how they were showing the Driftwood throne, which is essentially just a bunch of boards…

I'm not a book reader so I have no idea, but I feel like anything Heleana (sp?) says should be tucked away as something significant. She just seems like she has a pulse on things to come. Just a guess and honestly I have no clue what most of what she says means. She seems like she is one of the Targ dreamers and is good with prophesies.
