I really wanted this movie to start off as a flash back. Where Ben gets to the academy and begins to learn how to use the force and you can see him start to do some dark things. Maybe kill an animal with the force

LOL Ben force-throws a goat off of a cliff and turns around and realizes Luke saw it.

It was stated earlier in this thread "the OT was about fun."

Uh. No, it was not. It was a space Western. And Lucas himself said the OT was about the redemption of Vader. I challenge you to point me to the "fun" parts of ESB.

I think the more recent posts highlight a major problem with 7, 8, and 9. There's no story. There's no grand plan. It's just a bunch of rambling about a group of characters. And it feels that way. There's no sense that any of this is leading anywhere.

hell a better storyline (with some clich parts to it) would be for his force powers to manifest - such as hearing people in his mind, etc. and he starts to go crazy. only snoke was able to help him quiet his mind and get control of his powers, and snoke then uses that leverage to lead him astray.

Maybe Rey was conceived by the midi-chlorians and a random slave woman? Would that make you guys happy?

was vader really redeemed?

he never apologized for the thousands he willfully slaughtered.

all he did, in a single moment for an old man, was take pity on his son, and save him

that is not redemption. that was a selfish act. yes, one of love, but it was still selfish.

vader was not redeemed.

Having seen it twice now, my main complaint lies with Laura Dern. Did she wander off a Hunger Games set? Why is a general in a gown? Even Leia was in a general's caftan that at least matched the crew ...every time dern showed up it took me out of it.

Plenty to nit pick in the movie, especially around the casino planet and Finn/Rose, but honestly we loved it. The Kylo/Rey scenes were fantastic.

This is the only real, valid concerns about the movie I have seen. I think, for better or worse, they should have just left JJ Abrams in charge of all 3. Tell a consistent story.

Are they? As bad as the ones we've seen in the last two movies? Seriously, give me the budget and make writing these movies my full-time job and I'll at least come up with something that the majority of fans like.

Yeah, I don't believe that. If he had decided to have Rey join up with Kylo Ren and betray and kill Leia I'm positive they would have put a stop to it. We already know that Kennedy does influence the films based on the stories about Rogue One and Solo.
the point is that there was no established A..B..C arc set in place . They are making up the **** as they go along.
and this is absolutely apparent from many of the story beats of TLJ.

Yep, read a story in Collider this morning that had a quote from Johnson confirming that he was allowed complete freedom in deciding Rey's parentage BUT he also stated that the next films aren't obligated to stick to that. That leaves me a little concerned...making stuff up as you go is how you end up with Suicide Squad and a Black Adam movie with no Shazam.
That sounds like he's setting up for the whole "your parents were a nobody" thing to be a lie. I mean, Kylo helped Rey get to that conclusion. It doesn't mean it was truthful...

But then again maybe I'm just holding out hope that Abrams will respect the mythology of the SW universe more than Rian Johnson.

And then we'd be complaining about pandering to the fanboys/masses. Like how there were actually a large group of people that complained about the Vader scene at the end of Rogue One.... You know, one of the greatest StarWars scenes EVER... people complained that it was pandering because that's what everyone wanted to see...

That's my big problem. There is such a huge difference between VII and VIII.

I don't personally care if they went with the more "traditional" SW story they Abrams built up in VII or the "throw out your expectations" theme Johnson showed us in VIII, but at least be consistent.

I agree with the idea I read a couple pages back that if you want to throw out the traditional idea what a Star Wars story is, set VII a couple hundred years in the future and you have a blank slate (for the most part).

I take Kylo revealing that and the final scene with the little Jedi pleb child to mean that anyone can be born with force sensitivity, like a freak genetic mutation or something. Doesn't have to come from a lineage.

Well, yeah, when you make a movie that almost EVERYONE sees, some people are going to dislike it for whatever reason. But, R1 is generally regarded by SW fans as pretty damn cool. I don't personally know any fans that hated it. Most of my friends are really let down by 7 and 8. There's no perfect SW movie, but it could be a hell of a lot better than what we've gotten.

Yep, sorta like how a nothing slave might have lied about her slave child. Maybe she slept with a Senator or Jedi or Sith, but she probably got knocked up after a night at the Mos Eisley Cantina with some nothing space jocky...

I thought the prequel laid down the story that anyone can be force sensitive and its not a necessarily part of lineage but the "episodes" were specifically about lineage.

Yes. It was a story about Anakin Skywalker. It made sense to focus on his family.

This thread went exactly as I predicted.

People come out loving the movie and then TCTTS shows up on page four to **** all over it because he is "just so above this stuff anymore". Then people fall all over themselves to agree.

Now people are starting to "reflect" (read: if I don't hate this movie the "real Star Wars fans" won't think I am cool) and it is worse than episode one. Kinda of like people on this thread even admitting they loved TFA until the internet told them not to. Apparently nerd rage doesn't let you think for yourself. Basically I didn't get the story I wanted so it's garbage.

We even got people complaining about politics on here.

The circle was completed much quicker then a expected.

I said from my first post I thought it was weak. So did lots of others.

I don't think the bombs were "gravity" based, it looked like they were all lined up in a track which could have just worked like a mechanical conveyor belt that moved them downwards. All you needed was something to get them moving and that's it, I don't think it's such a reach to assume that's what was done.
And that thing to get them moving was a hand held remote control...yeah...more stupity.

The more I think about the whole movie, the more pissed I get that Disney completely, and totally whiffed on this one....

That's something I'm totally fine with - Anakin was a nobody from the desert too (albeit Force Jesus). It was more of a personal fanboy wish that she would have some kind of connection to a character in the universe that I'm okay with not being fulfilled. But still a little bummed lol

Well - put me in the camp that actually disliked it MORE after a second viewing.

I agree with most of the grievances already in here - but I will add one thing RE the killing of Snoke

Are we to believe that our two villains in Episode 9 will be Kylo and General Hux (whom was the butt of a "your momma" joke?)

I think Rey perfectly summed up the movie when she was in the dark mirror cave

I laughed whenever Luke told Kylo he was sorry and then Kylo yelled "I bet you are..." because it reminded me of Matt the radar technician when he threw he lightsaber said "Well then you don't have to look at it anymore."
