My parents, my wife, my kids don't care about Dr Strange. They just don't. Spider-Man maybe.

I'm not knocking Dr Strange. But so much of why 3 marvel movies per year make so much money is because there aren't very many movies like Top Gun 2 anymore to capture their attention. Basically all big budget movies are super hero now. I would think the depth/breadth of audience for Top Gun 2 would be more. We'll see.

100% agree

And a a lot of my friends didn't see the Marvel movies because they weren't comic books fans as kids or thought they were movies for nerds or whatever.

Top Gun, however, is a movie that everyone has seen at least once thanks to cable, and the exact opposite of a nerd movie. It's going to have a much wider appeal than the superhero movies, esp. one like MoM that's a character lots of people aren't that familiar with.

No offense to us nerds.

besides TDK trilogy and The Batman, most superhero movies are formulaic and predictable, usual crowd pleasing cringe as well. If TGM is as good as people are saying i think this could shift hollywood back to making more action movies that we used to see and not just amusement park movies

im not against them, i just think the hype has run its course. its everywhere and alot of people are tired of it, including me. The marvel universe is huge i cant understand how some people are able to keep up with all the moves, tv shows, etc.. Give me more HEAT, Training Day movies

Yep, I'm kinda fatigued when it comes to seeing movie stars in costumes using magic powers and breaking all rules of space and time to avert another CGI apocalypse. Action and adventure are great, but the weight, stakes, and constraints need to at least seem somewhat legitimate.

It's the same reason why the "Holdo Maneuver" and "Frozen Mary Poppins Leia" made me cringe in TLJ. Really, almost the entire sequel trilogy. Starkiller Base was too comic-book-ish, too. And the entire plot of TROS.

Dear Penthouse Forum,

Funny Top Gun story from today. We had our A&M club sporting clays shoot today. I am taking money for the gun raffle and there is a pretty blond in line and her phone rings. It is the Top Gun anthem for the ring tone. When she got to me I said "Are you excited for the premiere?" She started gushing about how she already has tickets. She then said "have you seen all the previews?" She then proceeded to sit down next to me and show me them on her phone. I thought it was great!

I then noticed my wife staring holes through me and realized this was not going to be a great outcome. She moved along and I got my ass chewing when I got home.

This movie will put hair on the chest of the Marvel fans who thought they have seen action. Like going from watching scrambled Cinemax to walking into a gentlemen's club, or going from a high school dance to a college night club.

I guess you could say I was in the "Danger Zone" and didn't even realize it. She did, "Take My Breath Away", but then I crashed and burned back to reality!

May have been why Rogue One did some well. It was a little more down to "Earth", a little more action and in my opinion nostalgic in the right way....not a remake of the OT, but had the ships and setting of the OT. I think disney made a mistake in avoiding the OT setting for media and the parks.

If TopGun is able to be nostalgic without remaking the original, but having call backs to the original I think it will be successful. I do wonder if Paramount will attempt a 3rd movie. I guess Mav could be a guest speaker/ consultant. William Driscoll has lectured every Top Gun class.

Wait, what? Another Fletch?!

Quote:

It's also interesting that Hamm is staring in a sequel to Top Gun 36 years after the original, but, next will play the title character in Confess, Fletch, the first Fletch movie in 31 years and is another long-rumored sequel (more a reboot in this case) people just kind of assumed would never happen.

Read a Jennifer Connelly feature article and it said her character's name is Penny Benjamin and she was indirectly referenced in the first film. Any ideas? Also it implied there is a love scene but didn't say if there is any tongue to tongue licking or weird color tone

Penny Benjamin was the admirals daughter that was brought up when Maverick and Goose were getting reamed for the Cougar incident: "a history of high-speed passes over five air control towers and one admiral's daughter!"

Have seen some reviewers offer eye-rolling comments about her character's apparent high-net-worth lifestyle in the new film. Being a humble bar owner and all. Well... Admirals are paid quite well. And are paid even more when they retire to a second career. Admiral Benjamin probably had a small empire of San Diego area real estate.
