I want to go watch Top gun 2 in the biggest theatre I can find with the best sound I can find.

I don't want to be in a packed theatre though. I don't feel like being around that many people.

I want a low drama, no drama situation.

How long until I can catch a morning showing and have the place to myself.
Cinemark has recliners in some theaters. They are spaced out pretty good.

Yep, that was awesome. With some real stakes this one was better than the original.

That was my favorite kind of strikeout. When the ball breaks into the zone and the batter just walks back to dugout immediately knowing he got got.

I am big on the accuracy went into it ready to pick it apart. From the second that the first scene came on I was 14 years old again with a smile so wide that none of it mattered. My son was sitting between my wife and I and is the same age as I was when I first saw it. It was great, really, really, great.

I have to sneak away and see it in an IMAX or at least a good theater. Saw this in my small town and the speakers were cracking and and you could barely hear it at times. I want to be immersed by the sound and feel when I see it again.

Edit: We laughed that for the three of us to see it was a grand total of $12, unlimited popcorn and drinks were $10 total.

In the theater, seating high up and centrally in front of a big ass IMAX screen. 7 minutes out.

Same! That was awesome!

Overall that's about as good as it gets these days when it comes to big budget summer tentpoles. See it on the biggest screen you can find, preferably IMAX.

Openings minutes were a thing of beauty. It dragged a little in the middle 3rd, but the last 30 minutes were something to behold. Flying sequences throughout were solid although a little repetitive at times.

Cruise was perfect, as were Connelly and Teller.

All ages are welcome. My kids loved it. First movie I can recall in forever where I saw 60 year old couples, young families, and everything in between. A true crowd pleaser across all demographics.

That was so much fun. That was one of the best final acts I can remember in a movie. Can't wait to see it again.

Also Jennifer Connelly is smoking hot in this.

It's just boring people that love to flex their "expert".

Meanwhile, they probably don't even know how to tell an interesting story. Is anyone to expect they could make a movie strangers would spend money and 2hrs to watch?

Do yall remember the 1917 thread and those nerds? "That pilot would have never done that. He would have been a gentleman. Harumph"

Nerds.

Awesome Movie.

The cheers you hear are not just the audience but Navy Recruiters across the nation.
that's why the Navy spent tens of millions of dollars to make it.

plus LOCKHEED MARTIN (one of my former employers)

count how many times LMT is shown...

Do they explain how he managed to stay in the navy for over 30 years, while "avoiding" promotion?
technically he was promoted from LT to Captain

but basically he crashed a bunch of stuff, and disobeyed orders a bunch of times, and I think he asked to be dropped from being an instructor previously

the issue isn't him still being a CPT in reality

the issue would be a 60 year old Tom Cruise being a fighter pilot on a US Navy mission.

last I checked, we don't have 60 year olds flying combat for some pretty good reasons.

amazingly...

Tom Skerritt
James Tolkan
Michael Ironsides

all from TGI are still alive

Skerritt is nearly 90, Tolkan is 90 and Ironsides 73.

Unabashed and unadulterated review - I've read nobody else's comments.

Top Gun Maverick is awesome. I was worried based on glowing reviews in the media but it is that good. My entire family enjoyed it. My wife who saw the original with me back in 1984 loved it as did my grown kids now 22 and 25 who have been shown every 80s movie.

The action sequences are among the best I've ever seen for any jet fighting or flying movie. It never once felt like it was CGI or green screened and the action was intense. I know they used a lot of real footage and it shows. The director and editing should be commended. The action absolutely rocks and the cuts are perfectly done in and outside the planes.

Tom is great. Really in his element here and his most accessible character is still everything we loved about him but with a little grace and wisdom and even humility that comes with age. But at his core he is a fighter pilot and the bravado and balls and rebellious parts are still a part of him as well.

They did a great job with the Goose impact on Mavericks life adding back story to it (in terms of story between then and now) and depth and regrets and how it has impacted several peoples lives. I felt it could easily have gone too cheesy but it never did.

The stuff with Iceman (thats not a spoiler I assume everyone knows) is perfectly handled as well and their scene was incredibly emotional. It was so good to see Val Kilmer really and the way they worked it in despite his current health issues was awesome.

Miles Teller was awesome and really almost makes the movie because he handled that role perfectly. It was a channeling of Goose in a lot of ways of course. But he was his own man as well and haunted by what happened to his dad. Again another delicate thing that could have been mishandled but was done very well.

The music was great like the original of course the familiar songs were used, but not overused and there was plenty of new stuff that was great.

As for other new characters: The romantic relationship with Jennifer Connelly's character was given little explanation, but it still worked. She was great and it added another element to Mavericks life that would have felt missing otherwise. John Hamm was really good as expected. Ed Harris was brief but also good. The other pilots were all good caricatures of what you would expect but not overdone.

I did have a few moments of wishing we had even a brief Tom Skerritt or Meg Ryan appearance or Michael Ironside or James Tolkan, but it might have felt too corny if we did. The tone was just right and might have been too much. We got to see who we really needed to see.

I came away just smiling and happy. What I'll think about when this movie is talked about is Maverick and Iceman and Rooster. It gives us closure for them all.

There were moments of soaring emotions and other quiet and gut wrenching moments, a few goosebumps to be sure (no pun intended).

Overall awesome!!! Like 9/10.

I actually do feel a little lousy though…..my one symptom…..a pretty bad headache (and just a little congestion)…probably not the best movie to watch with that

And even though I'm pretty much 100% anti-mask and all that, I don't know if the person to my left or right is going through chemo, has an auto immune disease, yadda yadda yadda…..so it can wait…..

But still….

Our theater had the sound cranked to 11 and it was fan-****ing-tastic. Couple of cheers from audience in key places where it was warranted but no stupidity. Jennifer Connelly was smoking hot as usual. It's scary how much Miles Teller resembles Goose.

Saw it yesterday with my wife and youngest son and they loved it. My 14 yr old son, who has never shown any interest in flying, really got into the movie. After the movie he started asking me about the F-14 radar and what was real and what was fake in the cockpit. He had me breakdown the differences between the two F-18s. All of a sudden he actually cared about what I do in the Air Force.. fun day. Highly recommend it for the family.

Oh and great callback opening... set up the movie perfectly. Not a real spoiler but here are the two openers for your comparison.

Quote:

Audiences over 40 years old, the people who were top of mind when Paramount greenlit a sequel to 1986's "Top Gun," turned out in force (55% of ticket buyers), which is impressive because it's the demographic that has been the most reluctant to return to theaters. Still, "Maverick" managed to entice a significant percentage of millennial moviegoers 45% of people were 35 or younger who were not alive when "Top Gun" opened 36 years ago. The film's positive word of mouth should be helpful in continuing to reach younger crowds.
