People that were saying that about Harvey did so Friday night and weren't paying attention to the actual forecast to know that Friday night was never supposed to be a big deal.

This. We now have meteorologists basically saying that this wont be a big deal for most of Houston unless you live near the coast. Its a totally different situation than Harvey.

Hunters going In and finding 60+ winds south of Galveston, it might actually make hurricane status before landfall.

I think just like Harvey, everyone is saying "this is a nothing burger" then it hit...... This won't be anything like Harvey, but I bet it will be more than the "nothing" some are saying here.....

Hope I am wrong.....

We knew for days that Harvey was going to be 20+" of rain. Not sure where you were getting your weather info.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

This is what Space City was posting prior to Harvey on the 25th:

Space City - Harvey

Quote:

As he mentioned, it is indeed a realistic portrayal of the rain our area could get over the next week. Twenty-plus inches of precipitation in such a short period of time is daunting, especially when you consider Houston averages around 50 inches a year.

So they were certainly sounding the alarm on this storm.

Right now, with Nicholas, they've really backed off and aren't showing near the concern, probably primarily because the storm keeps shifting east and will not be at a standstill for a day or 2 like Harvey was.

IIRC there were people all over saying that it was a weak storm blah blah. The unwashed masses certainly thought they dodged a bullet whereas those paying attention knew what the real issue was going to be.

Yeah. That's fair for that night...but I was just making the point that at least Space City was showing real concern about what Harvey might do.

Ironically because of Harvey, everybody is hypersensitive now even as the meteorologist back things down. So a bit of an overcorrection.

It a hurricane they will call it at 10, it also refuses to make landfall and keeps heading east over water

Those are gusts not sustained. It's not a hurricane.

They're either disappointed or happy but just because they can call out all meteorologists and decision makers for canceling things.

I call it relief joking.

It's just kind of a release after being concerned for a couple of days that there could be trouble. Just imagine a giant, "WHEW!" with a forearm head sweat wipe.

Yes, I realize that. I was looking more at how tight and circular the wind lines were coupled with those gusts.
