Question about replacing my gas block on my BUSHY AR-15.



Is it possible to replace the above with the following?

Should I be concerned with Maring the finish on the barrel trying to remove the orginal?

Is there anybody in Houston that could help me accomplish this?

If the gas block you linked is for the same barrel diameter you have then you can change them out. I am in Houston and helped a friend change out the gas block on his Bushmaster two weeks ago. It was very, very difficult. I've changed out gas blocks on other brands before without any major issue. A few hard taps and the pins came out. For whatever reason the pins on the Bushmaster were stuck in there. Took us several hours to remove them.

$1200 for the .308 mentioned above would be a good deal.

Changing that gas block is no big deal once you get the pins out as has been mentioned. They should come out to the left side of the rifle...but Bushy's can be a real *****.

The other consideration is that your muzzle attachment is removable, if not you will have to cut off the FSB.

The last hurdle is getting the gas tube out and then into the new gas block. You will need a vice, a small metal punch and some good luck (if I am anywhere near)...watch those role pins, they can hide real well once they launch.

Got my 24" Shilen .204 bull barrel yesterday. My buddy got his, as well, and we assembled his upper last night. These are gonna be some MEAN rifles when we get them finished. I'm ordering my Young Mfg bolt carrier today and my Badger handguard in a couple weeks. Man, I can't wait to get it finished and shoot it. Should be ready by April.

I think a 6.5 Grendel is my next build, but I got sticker shock looking at barrels last night. I might have to see if Mike Rock or Shilen can make me one, as Sabre Defence is treating barrels like they're gold or something. $600-700 for a barrel is highway robbery.

Sabre got a HUGE military contract late last year, so I think they are just trying to discourage commercial business at the moment.

They make great stuff though, worth every penny. My guess is they make the barrels LaRue is using as well.

Is there something preventing say Shilen or Rock from chambering barrels in 6.5 Grendel? Some sort of proprietary restrictions or something?

I was quoted 8-10 weeks by Alexander Arms on Dec 15. Finally just talked to them. They say they are still months behind that date and cannot give an ETA.

No grendel for me.

Tighter neck = less wear on brass. I might consider one of these barrels for my build. LW barrels have a very good reputation.

I am new to the entire AR world but have wanted one for a long time just haven't had the money to get into it. I missed out on CCMG Bargain Bin sale even though I watched everyone on this board post about how good of a deal it was, excellent quality of the guns, etc. I kick myself every time I think about it. I recently ran across this site and I want to see what the experts on TexAgs think.

Would this be a reliable upper to purchase. I plan on buying a lower (stripped or assembled I haven't decided) whenever I find one at a reasonable price. I have never built a gun but from what I hear here and other sites it is basically just Legos if you can follow directions well enough. Let me know your thoughts.

I am sorry if I just asked an extremely stupid question.

if i was in the market for a new basic AR, i wouldnt heistate to get that kit.

Its just that when i bought mine, i knew i wanted certian things above and beyond that kit, so i bought from several different places.

Del-ton was one of the places i bought from (buffer tube, buffer spring and weight).

I would buy from them again.

Trigger Question.

Just installed a RR National Match 2 Stage in a Laure lower. The safety doesn't allow the trigger enough travel to trip. Anyone had this experience? Found a thread in the AK forum from someone who had exactly same experience. He ground off part of the safety, not something I'm excited about.

Started at .315 and got it to clear at .300 Then I took off an extra .003 to be sure a little dust won't block it.

Waiting on stock, buffer, and then some optic and I'll be done.
