I laughed.

There's a nice mature black lab and a young but feisty pit bull/corgi mix in that picture. Not seen is the pit/corgi's girlfriend, a yellow lab mix.

I've got a question for the AR gurus about national match iron sights on the AR 15. I bought one of the CMMG bargain bin rifles about a year ago and put a detachable carry handle on the rifle (it's a 16" barrel in case that piece of info matters). I was wondering if I would see an improvement in accuracy from changing out the standard front sight post to a national match post? From what I've checked online it seems this "could" be a fairly cheap and easy way to improve accuracy. Would the rear peep sight need to be changed to a NM as well to get the greatest benefit? I've found that my elevation on the target stays fairly consistent but that I drift horizontally - I'm guessing this is coming from an inconsistent point of aim on the front sight which at 50 yds is wider than the bulls eye on a target.

Yes, putting on a narrower front sight will make it easier to be more precise with your shots.

Your best bet for better accuracy is to put a better trigger in it. The bargain bins aren't match rifles, so I doubt you will see much of an accuracy increase with a thinner front sight. If anything, the thinner front post will be harder to see.

Those are good things to consider, thanks for the input.

Dirt, its something you’ll have to experiment with. On an A2 I’d say a thinner post definitely helps. On a M4 length AR it's going to depend more on your vision. If you have young eyes it'll be easier to focus in on the close post. I’m 37 and I have no problems focusing on a thin (.046) post on an A2, but on a M4 post it’s pretty tough. Also, a smaller rear aperture may help you focus on the post and make the target clearer.

NRH, why is that better than a foregrip on the front rail?

The AFG works better than a VFG for a certain shooting style that has been used by 3 gunners and instructors for years, and has recently been taken more mainstream by the Magpul Dynamics guys. The thought behind it is you can control the muzzle better under recoil and when transitioning between multiple targets if your hand is as far out as possible. You can use a VFG for this kind of grip, but in my case only my pinky and ring finger were on the VFG, my social and trigger finger were on the bottom rail and my thumb was alongside the top rail, pretty similar to how I grip a pistol with my offhand. It worked, but was uncomfortable, not consistently repeatable, and left most of the VFG unused. Th AFG lets the wrist sit at a more natural angle and makes it easier to get the same hand position everytime. In the next few weeks I'm going to try to get a hold of a shot timer and a place where I can run some drills to see if it increases speed on multiple targets.

It's Christmas in February! Tax return finally got here, so I have the following on its way. Can't WAIT to get my .223 SPR finished and begin work on the Grendel! I figured I'd stimulate the small business economy buying gun parts.

THIS:

and THIS:

and THIS:

2 of THESE:

a set of THESE:

and a set of THESE to put on the SPR with an M8 Leupold until I can save up for the Larue/Trijicon combo:

Isn't magpul redoing their backup sites? I had heard they were making them more robust or something.

I know they're making the rear sight lower so optics in a LT-104 will clear.

I'll upgrade the rear sight when they do.

So with my formerly bought stripped lower, I got a Del-Ton kit for the rest of the gun that I'll show off when it finally gets put together...

But then for some odd reason I decided to get an 18 inch cmmg bargain bin gun.

And since I was in the shop to have then send the bargain bin gun, I then got another stripped lower to actually build one on my own part by part. I think I have entry BRD... hope it doesn't get worse.

Damn you all. And thanks.

Oh, and since there's not a good thread on optics just yet...

What optics OUTSIDE of EOTech do you guys use for your AR?

Aimpoint is the only RDS I will use.

My next AR will have a low power variable, most likely a trijicon TR24G or NF NXS.

I realized last night I have 5 receivers: 2 complete rifles, 1 complete lower, 1 CAV arms lower and 1 striped lower.

BRD is a sickness with no cure.

I need build a .204 tack driver next.

Well crap. I guess the new ones aren't out yet, then? I just bought one, and was hoping to put a Leupold Mark AR in a LT-104 on there too. What are my options?

Wait or go with the higher SPR mount that Larue offers.

I'm sure you guys read my thread already about "Sandy". Didn't fire b/c the hammer spring was in backwards. I felt like a dumbass, but at least it was simple to fix. I might to a test here at the house with a primed case just to see if it fixed it before I drive 30 minutes to the range.

tx4guns,
My brother and I did that on the last build.
We didn't put one of the trigger springs in right.

I managed to swap the trigger and bolt release springs on one build. I had poor results with that if you can imagine. I even made a small rant about the lpk on here. These things happen.
