Would a midlength 16" AR give any advantage accuracy wise over a 16" carbine? Or is it really just a difference in appearance?

ML will have a lighter recoil impulse than a CAR. I.E. it will shoot more smoothly.

Also, you get a bit longer sight radius, which helps with accuracy when using open sights.

ML systems provide an easier extraction process than a carbine length. Gives a slight increase in reliability, but most shooters will notice the smoother recoil.

The CMMG Bargain Bin AR's are back. A few bucks more at $599 but still a great deal. I bought one for my brother last time and couldn't find a single thing wrong with it.

Does anyone know of a good, reliable and reasonable FFL in or near B/CS? The feedback on both Champion and Burdett seems to be pretty marginal.

Is there any need to break in the chrome lined barrel on an AR15?

No. Just shoot the $h!t out of it.

Oh how I wish I had $599. I would pick up a CMMG bargain bin rifle. My dad is starting to want one so that would make a kick ass Christmas gift.

Not a big Gander Mtn. fan and I've never used them but I believe their fee is around $35.

Won a complete AR lower at the match this weekend. It goes well with the LaRue Stealth Upper I won a few months back that has been sitting in my safe.

Hey daniel, it's the guy whose AR bolt yall borrowed at gunsmoke on that rainy day (was there was AJP from the bush school and another friend of mine). Glad to see yall do transfers, I'll certainly be getting a hold of yall soon.

I am fairly certain that the gander fee is actually 70 dollars or higher, as they feel transfers are too much paperwork and effort.

Won the Stealth Upper and a few other things at the LaRue 3-gun match back in March. Placed 12th out of 165. They had an awesome prize table there.

Can anyone recommend a good armorer's wrench? I keep reading stories of people busting up the cheap ones...

The Smith Enterprise version. Don't get a DPMS; the prongs on mine were out of spec and wouldn't fit the Larue barrel nuts.

hmm... I guess you suggest a seperate spanner wrench for the castle nut?

anyone had any experience with this one?

Can anyone recommend a decent .22 conversion kit for an AR?
AgBrad08

I just got the CMMG 22 conversion today. I cant vouch for it yet, but hopefully will get to shoot it this weekend.

From what I have heard there can be some easy to remedy problems. And it is supposed to eat the federal bulk pack 22lr pretty good.

CDNN has them on sale right now with 2 mags for 189. I ordered somewhere else though last week.

Eric:

My brother has the ciener kit

it has eaten all the bulk 22 we put it it. the only problem we have seen with it is due to the magazines. near the end of the 30 round mags(last 2-3 cartridges), the spring doesnt push up a new cartridge quite fast enough, and it tends to get a FTF.

other then that, no problems.

as far as thin/lightweight profile barrels go: is this something that I would need to have done or does someone suggest a reputable seller. specifically a 10.5 inch barrel. most lightweight barrels i find are longer 16-20 inch barrels.

Don't know of any sellers, but adco should be able to reprofile a barrel for you, tons of people on m4c and arfcom have used them with no complaints.

Well, finally picked up a wrench at the gun show this morning. Got home, pulled the old stock off the gun and... you guessed it, lost the takedown detent (still have the spring).

Any suggestions of where to pick one up? Everyplace online I've looked wants $1 for it, but $9 worth of shipping and handling to mail me something that wouldn't register on a scale.

He's consistenly out of AR parts. I ask him at every gunshow I see him at, since I am looking for retro parts.

Try SOG. They're at 59 and 8 and should have small parts available.

I started stalking this thread about a year ago. I knew nothing about AR's but from what I read on here and ARFCOM. About six months ago I decided to go ahead and start my first AR build. I took my time doing research, looking for deals, bought it piece by piece and put it together myself mainly to truly understand my gun. I just wanted to say thank you to those of you who are evidently extremely knowledgeable about this subject and answered questions and to those of you who asked the questions that I was too embarrassed to ask.

As of last week all that I am now lacking is a BCG, charging handle and buttstock. I am waiting until the 15th of this month for my check to roll in to finish it off. I am taking recommendations as to what brands I look into for my remaining parts but keep in mind, I am trying to do this on a budget.

For anyone who might be curious, yes, I have caught the bug and I am already planning my second and third build.

Edit to say that this thread has really died since the staff moved it here. Please resticky

I want so badly to start building, but other things keep getting in the way... I know that once I start, like most things I start, I will do whatever it takes to get it finished.

Edit: If the price for an FN SCAR and AR were the same, which would you choose to own?

Changed the question so it was easier to answer.
