Great pics, that must be a nice digi SLR. Good choices on the rifle.

But, where is your Ruger 10-22 AR?

Thanks. It's a Canon PowerShot A560 :P... all my money goes towards guns and ammo so I have to borrow the camera and this is the best I've got to work with.

I'd never heard of the 10/22 conversion thing till this thread. I looked it up and laughed when I saw a picture.

If a drill press is not available, and one would want to drill an inverted cone into a rounded surface with a hand drill, find a high quality 135 degree pointed drill bit to do it with. The point on them is designed to bite almost on contact.

I have had friends tell me they have seen a Norseman brand drill bit cut right into the side of a grade 8 bolt by a demonstrator using a hand drill while the bolt was held by a vise. Also used said bit to cut the head off of the bolt working it back and forth.

Man, this is gonna be so cool.

PP, that's ALLSOME! I bet that setup adds 500fps to the bullets, too! It might even make the 10/22 kick like a real AR since it's lighter!

Maybe I should go with the Dragunov stock...I mean, a Drag or a Tiger has way more badness than an AR.

Maybe its time for a poll...

Good looking rifle AgGunner. Its also good to know someone with good success with the BCM upper. I got one a few weeks ago, but I ended up with a LMT bcg.

Had a failure over the weekend.

I had installed a different buffer tube plate recently, which meant taking the tube stock apart and all that. Installation went well and I put everything back together and charged the weapon to see that nothing was wrong.

So I get out to shoot this weekend, pull the charging handle back, and something doesn't feel quite right. So I take the weapon down and my Buffer Retainer Pin and Spring are now out of their hole and wandering around. Somehow, the pin must have come out and the tube caught the spring because it was all caught and bent at a right angle.

So I've ordered another Spring, but I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong. Any thoughts?

You didn't screw the buffer tube in far enough to cover the buffer retainer enough to hold it in. It popped out and caused a failure. How do I know this? I had it happen a couple weeks ago on a stock that came loose b/c I didn't torque it enough. If the spring was bent, you can put the bent part in the hole and leave the straight part facing upward. It will still function.

It will also run with out the pin and spring in there at all.

I know folks who take them out for fun and for real. One less thing to break off and jam the rifle at just the wrong time.

Buffer pin tip:

When installing, either wear glasses or point it away from you, I had mine pop me right near the eye on an install when the buffer tube wasn't screwed on far enough. Lifted my finger and it zapped me in the eye...

i shot that damn front pivot spring and detent around the room about 20 different times. then i lost the detent.

so for those around the DFW area, I would suggest using Lee's Gun Parts in Irving if you need some random gun part. TONS of parts from AR parts to mosin nagant stocks to swiss chargers.

The front pivot pin detent was my usual "flying part" when I first was learning how to assemble lowers. Those little boogers can fly a long way. Always found them, tho. Lucky. I have a pretty good system for installing them now. Takes a steady hand.

i found using a box cutter to hold it in while placing the pin to work much better then any other object I could find.

also, using a machine screw head to hold and help align roll pins on first insert works nicely.

Talking to me? Thanks, I love shooting it. I've looked at the px4 as a lighter, summer carry option but am still coming to terms with polymer frames. Plus I wasn't wild about the fit when I held one atthe store. I've heard really good things which has gotten me back to looking at them though. Maybe one in .45

Stros: Yep, I wuz talking to ya. I like the M9 a lot; used it in the military; probably need to get one just for old times sake. I guess it all depends on one's hands. Mine are large and the PX4 fits like a glove. They have 3 grip options.

Not scientifically researched, but I tend to think the polymer handguns kick like hell in .45, which is why I tend to like the heavier all-steel models in that caliber. In 9mm, the PX4 recoil is almost negligible....it has a rotating barrel which deflects a lot of the kick.

Hmmm... I'll definitely have to take a look. I just bought the 92FS so I'll have to take some time before I make another big investment but I would like to give the PX4 a try.
Picadillo

If you're going to go plastic in .45, suggest one of the rotating barrel types....the H&K USP was the other one I was seriously considering. Quite pricey however, the tennifer steel barrel (like the Glocks have) makes the thing quite pricey. The Sigs are also pretty awesome, but no rotating barrel I'm aware of.

I think we need a gun board....just guns.

I would support that, but I think outdoors pretty well covers it. Kind of strange golf is mixed in. Could probably get along with their own board .

Alright guys, I've been working hard and long to fix up my big gun, and although it's not an AR, I'm thinking this is the direction I'm going to head... what say you? A 10/22...
