oh and re: horses

i bought a horse on my first time to Whiterun early in the game. it died in the first multi-bandit skirmish i got in. haven't used a horse since. doesn't really suit how i play anyway, even when i'm outside exploring i'm sneaking a lot

Just killed a dragon in one shot with a dagger + assassins armor. Wasn't sure what happened as I guess the game isn't prepared for that dragon flew off then hit the ground dead

Agdev, I've seen this done with the backstab damage perks and dagger perks, dragon will fly off, circle around and crash to the ground if you get it in the back

Quick question - Skyrim for my dad?

I haven't played it yet (will pick it up this spring sometime) and I'm unsure how difficult the combat system is. I'm curious if my dad would be able to play it or if the combat would be too quick?

Background: He has played WoW for a while and did well with that. Plays Minecraft now. I got him to try Mass Effect 2 (demo was available) and the combat/aiming mechanic was too difficult and quick for him. Where does Skyrim fall in this department?

TIA!

Exactly what happened plug.

Bq - Not sure what he had trouble with on me2, but the combat is very simple in skyrim. I'd say if he was able to play wow this would be fine.

i just had a weird experience. i had a bounty mission for a bandit leader in a little tower called Nilheim. when i went, the only two NPCs that were there were two bandit-looking guys, except that they were both labeled as "Guard" and were completely friendly. one had an arrow over him so i killed him, other Guard didn't see so he was still friendly. went back and got the bounty

as if that wasn't weird by itself, i got the same bounty AGAIN...went back to the tower, the only Guard left now had the arrow. killed him and got the bounty.

went back to investigate the area further out of curiosity, and near the tower was a campsite with 3 or 4 of the exact same "Guards", all looking like bandits but none of them attacking me...is this a weird glitch? practical joke by the devs?

In ME2, at least the first level, you have to be pretty proficient at aiming and shooting your pistol...he was not.

Aiming proficiency required in Skyrim?

If he is using a bow it can be bit certainly not to the extent of me2. Do the console versions have aim assist? If so then it certainly won't be a problem with that. Other weapons he will be fine...I haven't tried any spells but I would assume he would be okay with that as well. Either way the game doesn't take fps type reflexes. I think he could easily find a play style he would enjoy and be sufficient at.

Even with the arrows, bq, you are sneaking most of the time and can carefully aim.

To be fair, there's an awful lot of hidden passage ways activated through buttons and chains.

Dude, the college station mall had a lot of back alleyways that I used when I worked there. Sneak from our store over to chick fila and not have to deal with the idgits in the mall, especially around xmas.

well not only that but it looked like the Forsworn guys killed everyone as soon as we got back outside. it doesn't really matter, i'm basically done with the quests there and i hate that city anyway

Whelp...I'm officially level 100 in everything.

I still have a few quests left that are glitched out, and probably several more that I haven't triggered yet, but I think I'm going to jump back on BF3 for a while. I'd have to say that Skyrim will probably go down as one of the best games ever.

It looks like that, but it's not the case. I go back from time to time and everything is back to normal.

I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue:

I rode Shadowmere to the cave where you collect the Crown of Barenziah (after getting all 24 stones). Anyways, I did the dungeon and came out. Shadowmere just fell over dead right in front of me. Absolutely nothing of any consequence was nearby. ???????

btw, all the hunting around for the lost stones is absolutely worth it. You find a ridiculous amount of valuable stones in burial urns and the like. At least 2 per search, and I swear I get a flawless diamond (worth 1000 gold) about 20% of the time.

texag2016 - if this is your first game of this type, then the best advice i can give you is to not be afraid to just do stuff. idk what you normally play but compared to FPS's or even most other RPG's, elder scrolls games give you a huuuuge amount of freedom.

as an example, i've logged nearly 40 hours of play time while barely making a dent in the "main" mission - because there are new quests around every corner. you'll frequently happen upon little towns or dungeons with opportunities for adventure, looting, and questing that have absolutely no bearing on the main storyline - and yet, they fit into the world fantastically, because the entire setting is fleshed out. and they're just plain fun!

have fun man, and remember to take breaks every once in a while - this game can eat away your time without you even realizing it

BTHOthatguy: You end up maxing out at Level 81 and a half.

My goal was definitely not to max everything out from the get go...around level 50/60 or so I realized I wasn't too far off. I started out as a Conjurer using a One-Handed axe and got those up relatively fast but that got kind of boring, so I switched to Destruction and fireballed/icestormed the sh*t out of people for a while, then switched to Archery combined with Sneaking (which ended up being the most fun/easiest way to play IMO). I used Invisibility & Muffle a lot during that time too, so Illusion went up pretty fast. During those earlier stages I also worked on Smithing and Enchantment and made some sweet Dragonscale (Light) Armor. I also used Detect Life, Magelight, and Paralyze a decent amount which leveled up Alteration.

Once I beat the main quest and a majority of the side quests, I started deliberately changing my style to only use skills that needed work. This included Pickpocketing the hell out of everyone I could (I was at Level 100 Persuasion and leader of the Thieves Guild, which made Riften a great place to work on this because I could talk my way out of getting caught most of the time). I also switched to a Two-Handed Daedric Sword with Daedric (Heavy) Armor. Lockpicking just happened over time.

The hardest & last things for me to max out were:

Restoration
Blocking
Alchemy
Two-Handed
Heavy Armor

I got blocking to about 40 or so when I was rolling One-Handed in the beginning, but I'm not gonna lie, to max out Blocking I let some Falmer hit me for like an hour while I raised my shield and bashed him. Also, even though I had been using it from the beginning, Restoration took freaking forever. In the end (Restoration @ about Level 77), it was just taking wayyyy too long, so I found a random Forsworn chick who did just the right amount of damage and let her hit me while I continuously casted Equilibrium with one hand and Close Wounds on the other. Worked like a charm. That will also work to level up Armor Skills and Alteration.

Alchemy...sucked. Find the most expensive potions you can make and crank 'em out.

unicyclist_ag: 34 hours is just scraping the surface my friend.

Merry Christmas, fellers.
