So Lydia died in Markath to guards didn't know that could happen, but two questions.

1)What is going on the guards killed the dude I was supposed to meet in the statue of Talos and tried to kill me then all the guards tried to kill me?

2)I'm guessing Lydia isn't coming back so where is the best follower i'm a mace and shield heavy armor orc?

There should have been several steps leading up to that part of the quest... Honest question: did you not pay attention to what people were saying/doing in Markarth? Didn't the guards tell you to stop asking questions as you were investigating? (I only ask because I know that some people fly right through the quests like they're checking off a "to do" list without really paying attention to what's happening.)

I did rush through the dialogue but yes got the stop asking questions part. Nepos whole house attacked me and I killed all of them.

I was surprised to see guards interrupt the quest line and now i have no more quests in Markath. I'm wondering what there is to do there now?

Kill all the guards and free people in the jail?

I think finding them on your own is part of the fun, so I hesitate to answer this. I've been quite pleased with Derkeethus, who I found/freed in a random cave or pass (don't ask me which one... It's been a while and it was an accident). He's an Argonian ranger and as far as I can tell, he can't die. Upgrade his bow and the rest is a walk in the park.

1. Don't rush through dialogue. The game is about more than running around killing things.
2. Knowing why Nepos tried to kill you would help explain the Markarth situation (see point #1). Did you also try to speak to Thonar Silver-Blood? Did he try to kill you too?
3. The guards didn't really interrupt the quest... They were part of it.

I'm not sure what to do now, as I haven't been back to Markarth in a few days. I put off completing that quest until I had done everything else in Markarth first just because something felt different about it.

I'm an orc we don't listen we just kill haha. I did talk to Thonar. Found out that he was running the city, but fighting the Forsworn who Nepos was in charge of. Dude in the prison Markath runs the Forsworn from his prison cell.

So I went to talk to Nepos and he tells me all the information and then says you won't get out alive and his whole house attacks me. I kill all of them and then get the quest to head back to the Talos statue to talk to Elyrs or whatever.

But instead three guards are there and they have killed him. So I kill all of them and now all the guards in the city are attacking me. I run from them because I think I have done something wrong, and didn't know what to do next.

I'm guessing I go into the jail and free people and ransack the city? Either way I made a couple thousand gold so I can't complain too much.

....you reallly ought to listen to dialogue. The guards basically said what they were going to do and by killing them, you've ruined the next part of the quest.

things play out in a different way if you let them arrest you. There is even a bit in your quest journal that says something like "my only choice now is to get arrested in order to meet ______..."

I killed those three and then surrendered outside when I was outnumbered like 50 to 2. It works either way, so maybe he can go back to Markarth and try to get arrested?

I have run into a problem with the skooma quest in Riften..i had already cleared the cave with the suppliers before i got to Riften. So when i went back to disrupt the operation it popped up saying quest complete and all that nonsense before i even got in the cave, then it did it again when i went and killed everyone again. Now i can't redeem it with the Jarl. I WANNA BUY MY RIFTEN HOUSE DAMMIT!

I'm having a similar problem in Riften, different quest, but same deal. I cleared out the bandits in Nilheim well before I ever ventured to Riften and now there's no one there to clear out and the game won't give me credit for having already done it.

It's done things similar to that for me at other places, but when I went back to the cave, stood at the cave/dragon roost/"Quest Location", it spawned a new enemy for me to kill and then completed the quest.

Just had 4-5 CTD's (2 within a few minutes) in about 30 minutes of play time, coupled with heavy lagging while reading Elder Scroll/fighting Alduin. This *****has got to stop.

I started out as a battleaxe wielding badass but have started to shift over to a sneaky ranger/archer.

There's nothing like throwing your voice against a wall and 1-2 shotting nearly every mob while they can't attack you.

Am I the only one who doesn't really like playing with a companion. Half the time the ruin me sneaking up on people and hitting them with arrows, and then it feels kinda cheap letting them fight all of the enemies while I just cherry pick them off. Maybe it's just me.

I used them starting off to help with the tougher enemies, but once I leveled up enough I stopped using them since they got in the way.

That's right - you ARE sworn to carry my burden!

Also - somebody help me out with light armor vs heavy armor. After all the perks in smithing and armor are accounted for, do they pretty much equal out as in Oblivion or should I focus on heavy armor since my mage is a little squishy.

For those of you playing on the 360...

Does your game freeze A LOT? I have an older 360 and don't know if that's the problem or what. It isn't an issue of overheating b/c there are times when I've only been playing 5 minutes and it freezes. I'm getting really tired of having to save every 5 minutes out of paranoia.

It has to be the engine. I play on windowed mode and have my hardware monitor visible. It never gets remotely hot enough to be a hardware error.
