for PS3 the "Unlock Shout" is the square button. look on the bottom of the Shouts Menu, and you should see Unlock Shout Option, as well as a Dragon Soul counter in the bottom right

You need to find words of powers to spend the dragon souls on. If you need a good starting point, do some of the Greybeard quests and they'll unlock some shouts for you and they'll tell you where some words of power are.

As for the daggers, you can mine the ore, but it's probably way easier to just buy it from the blacksmith.

I can't summon my unbound dremora lord anymore. I go through the spell animation and cast it, but no dremora appears. I went back to the summoning circle on top of winterhold, where you complete the quest to unlock that spell, and the dremora is just standing there. I can't interact with him in any way (attacking, talking, pickpocket). I even got my flame thrall to attack him and nothing happened. He can walk around to avoid being in the firing line of my atranoch, but doesn't follow me anywhere. Anyone else encounter this problem? Or know how to fix it?

Flame thrall is the spell you get as a reward. You sure you havent finished the quest? Summon unbound dremora is only for that quest and only works at the summoning circle. You need to pick summon dremora lord as your spell instead.

I have at least 3 shouts that are grayed out in my shouts menu that I have found. And it says I need a dragon soul to unlock them (I need to look at it again to remember what it says exactly). Maybe I'm just missing where it says unlock shout (I'm using the Xbox)

looked it up, you have to press X on xbox to unlock the greyed out shout that you want. you can then equip it using A as you would normally.

How do I unlock some of these shouts? I know I need dragon souls but I've killed about 4 dragons and "absorb the soul" but I don't know where the souls go. Do I need to put them in soul gems or something? Or is there something else I need to do?

Also, how do you make hundreds of iron daggers for smithing? Don't you need hundreds of iron ore pieces or iron ingots? Or am I missing something?

1. Go to your shouts under the magic menu. One of the options will be to "unlock shout". Soul gems are for enchanting weaponry.

2. Buy the iron ingots/ore from Warmaiden's in Whitefall, then you use the forge and make the daggers. Enchant them, then make bank.

Where is the best place(s) to sell stuff - especially maxed out weapory or jewelry?

When I max out gold diamond necklaces with Sneak enchantment, they get up to $2,000-plus. I can't find a vendor who carries more than $1,100 or so.

Or weapons that I've enchanted with Banish and improved to "exquisite" level are worth $2000-plus, but I can't find a Blacksmith who carries more than $1,100.

If you are in the Theives guild and have improved all of the holds, all of your fences will have 4000 gold, if you aren't in the guild then I have no idea

there are a number of mods that increase the amount of vendor gold carried.

also you can add x gold to vendor inventories. do that, save, exit skyrim, reload from desktop, and play again to ensure it doesnt affect achievements

usually, i'll save the big items for when I need to buy a big spell book or a bunch of fancy arrows.

Then I'll sell the big ticket item.

When I was in my lower levels I never cared that much about money. I just focused on improving my fighting skills and then once I got to a high enough level that I got good loot, I focused on improving my crafting skills. It was great for easy points for perks so I could catch up on all of the fighting skills.

Money won't be a problem at some point in the game. If you want to become a level 100 blacksmith early, then you should probably care about that kind of stuff, but you can put it off till level 30 or so and then just focus solely on that later.

And +1 to Predmid. If you want to level smithing or something, buy a buttload of the different kinds of ore/ingots you need, and then sell all of the stuff you can. You technically don't "gain" any money, I just view it as an even trade.

Buy 10k worth of fancy ingots, then you can pretty much sell all the stuff you're hauling around.

Thanks for your replies, but I still don't know where I can sell all of my $2,000-plus enchanted jewelry and weapons. Unless I do the Thieves' Guild thing, I guess. Is that seriously the only way??

If you care that much, just save those items for later. When you get the investor perk in the speech tree, invest with the guy in Riverwood. It costs you 500 but his gold goes up to 10,000+. Use him for your big items or for a full inventory unload after you go exploring.

If you look in the speech parks you will see perks that will enable you to increase the amount of gold vendors have. I think this is the only way of doing it without doing the Thieves Guild quests.

If you are really bored and need to raise speech skill, go to the brewery in Riften and talk to the bartender about whoever the nasty head beotch is (can't remember her name). Once you get to 25 skill you can do the persuade part on him, then just keep repeating the conversation. It is a cheap tactic but it works. I got my speech to 100 in about an hour one night.

I hate doing stuff like this cause I always find that I level too quickly, and my combat skills are too low. Ever since I made that mistake in my first game (too much emphasis on sneak and illusion) I've placed non-essential traits like crafting or speech on the backburner until my combat traits can more or less handle themselves.

If you focus on archery and blacksmithing, you will destroy this game, even on the hardest difficulty with relative ease. add some sneak in there for total win

Thanks, dlance.

Yeah, I already do the trick with a vendor where I first buy all of the cheap empty soulgems that I need, lockpicks, ingots, etc to get them flush with as much cash as possible before I start selling.
And sometimes that helps them barely top an amount needed to buy my stuff, but it still doesn't get them up to my "big ticket" items.

Regarding this Thieves Guild fence thing - is "Talia" the only fence? I took all my super-expensive enchanted jewlery to her, and she still couldn't get close to affording even one item (think she was holding around $1,500 total).

Maybe I need to just forget about it until I increase my Speech. I'm already at 67 Speech, and I realize you can get the investor perk later and essentially have unlimited selling power, but I guess I was hoping that vendors would increase their available cash on hand incrementally as I go, instead of them all staying poor until the moment I hit 100 Speech.

You will be able to get a fence in and around the major cities by going through the quests. Some are opened through the main quest (should be two) and others are opened by doing the jobs and then getting a special job in one of the major cities.

There is a guy in the meadery south east of whiterun (the bartender), a woman in the windhelm market place (run left after auto traveling to the south entrance and she is in a stall on the left side of the market), and a guy in the winking-skeever in solitude (on the left side of the street when you fast travel to the city) the guy is an argonian who sits at a table inside. Sorry I don't have any specific names I'm in class now but can't get specifics later if you are still interested

If I am on my way to one destination, and I happen to pass some cave/fort/whatever that I didn't know existed, and I decide to go ahead and go in and kick-ass and clear the place out - is there a chance that will ruin some future quest/mission, or is it safe to do that?

No, it's safe. There might be a door you can't open or an item that you pick up and can't drop (cause it turns out to be a quest item), but that just means you can go back when you need to complete the dungeon for the quest or you have the item already when they ask you to go find it.

Any PC users have any recommended mods? Right now, I'm using a script editor to make it run a bit smoother + the SkyUI. I'm curious about the Wars in Skyrim mod. Thoughts?

I didn't even know about unlocking the shouts.. geez. I just kept on randomly wandering around killing dragons, trying to figure out how I used their souls, and wondering why all the shouts I've acquired didn't work... geez.

Can someone post a novice walkthrough of how to install the PC mods? Seems like I might like to do it, but after messing with it for a little bit, I am not sure where to put stuff or how.

TIA

If you're getting them through skyrim nexus I would really recommend using their nexus mod manager.

You download through the website on the "with the manager" link, it shows up in a separate window in the program and once its done you can just click one button and it will install everything for you.
Absolute
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Was trying that. But nexus does not seem to have the skyrim script extender, which the skyui says is needed.
Absolute
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Okay, I think I got it to work. Any other must have mods?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The script extender can be found here

http://skse.silverlock.org/

It's a 7z file which is a new compression format so you will need a 7z decompressor. There is a readme to install it but if I remember correctly you just dump the files in the game folder, run the installer and then launch skyrim from the new exe that was in the download. It may be the one that had to be run from outside the skyrim game folder so double check the readme.

As far as mods, I just cherry picked off the pcgamer top 25.
Skyui and glowing ore veins are my only must haves, though I'm still looking for a better ui.
After that my faves are the realistic night sky and skyrim hd, but I have the realistic water, snow, sunglare, faces, flora, fxaa, roads on the map and weapon retexture.
Absolute
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Thanks. I found the extender. I thought I loaded it with the nexus manager, but in game it said it wasn't there. Guess I need to read the readme.

Pushing my character up to about 150 hours of play time and running out of things to do. Only major quest line remaining is the civil war.

Unfortunately while playing today, my PS3 turned itself off and the red light started flashing. Probably not good.

Anyone have any advice?
