Well, you can still make the Dragon Armor, I don't know how much worse it is than Daedric. Plus, you have to find Daedric hearts to make Daedric gear, and finding Dragon Bones is easier, since it seems like I can't run anywhere without a dragon trying to fight me.

Yeah, my Archery still isn't at 100 and I don't think I've ever used another weapon. I think part of the problem is that it's a "combat" skill and I took the Thief guardian stone up until around level 40, then switched to the Lover to spread the XP around.

I've gotten lucky buying the hearts a few times, but being an alchemist I visit those stores a lot and there are quite a few times when I go that they don't have any. I always check just so I can have a stockpile of them.

I activated the warrior stone and left it the whole game, all combat increases 20% faster. I had archery and one handed leveled up in no time.

Has anyone else run into the glitch with the Purity of Revenge quest? I ran into it this weekend on the 360, and seems like I'm stuck with the Companions / Whiterun messed up until they patch it...

I'm the noob that interrupts well-developed and flowing threads to ask stupid questions..

From the outside looking in...
I'm strongly considering getting this game. Right now I'm mainly a sports/FPS player. But this game looks to be too amazing to pass up. I haven't played any Elder Scrolls game before. Worth picking up and giving it a shot? My only concern here is attention span, to be honest. But from what I have heard and seen from many that probably won't be an issue.
I'm afraid of commitment...what say you?
ZooGuy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, you will have no problem with commitment. The problem will be finding time to play. I'm lucky if I get a couple of hours a night to play. Just moved into a new house... so no time in the near future.

I wouldn't aorry about attention spa and this game. There are about a billion things to do.

It''s likely that you will put in well over a 100 hours because there are that many quests and exploring can eat up lots of time. There are so many ways to play that you really can't screw your character up. Play what feels comfortable to you and follow that path.

Commitment will be there. Even if you are new to RPG's in general once you get past like the first 20 minutes and you have free will on where to go and what to do the possibilities are astounding. It's one thing knowing and then another KNOWING if you know what I mean. As soon as I was able to I chose a random direction and took off. Haven't stopped yet 60 hrs later.

No....you're issue will be time.....just never enough in the day it seems. Then you gotta worry bout stupid crap like eating and work and pooing. Really throws you off when you are trying to get down to the bottom of a dungeon.

I assume you and I are experiencing something similar...

***Potential spoilers ahead***

As a Stormcloak, I talked to Ulfric and he told me I should go help take Whiterun. At this point I was also on my way to take the heads of the Glenmoril Witches. After taking the heads, I went back to Whiterun and inadvertantly triggered the Battle for Whiterun (thought I would be given an option or something). Anyway, the battle was easily won, but afterwards, Jorrvaskr is locked and requires a key (which apparently doesn't exist) and now it seems my Companion questline is bugged. **** me.

You can get 4 Daedra Hearts at the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon. There are 2 Daedra outside of the shrine and 2 right as you walk in. After you kill them, I think they'll refresh after like 1 or 2 gameweeks.

Alright. Too many pages. I bought Skyrim yesterday just to see what all the fuss is about. What do I need to know...

My first reaction was that you really don't need to know anything. Just play.

But I'll add two things that might help:
1. Don't try to be good at everything. Pick out a few things based on how you'd like to play or your own personality or whatever, and concentrate on those. Jack of all trades = no bueno.
2. Don't fly through conversations. Skipping dialogue isn't a huge deal, but you'll get more out of the storyline(s) if you actually pay attention to what people are saying.

Pooing...stupid crap.

Well, it sounds like I'm about to lose contact with the outside world. Thanks for the insight, Ags.

Yeah, definitely don't try to be good at two many things. Pick 2.. maybe 3. I've chosen smithing, alchemy, and destruction. I like to hit with destruction magic then hack away.

This is basically the route I took with one-handed weapons thrown in. Working out great so far.

I'm destruction, conjuration, alteration and sneaking.

I'm one handed, smithing, archery, and heavy armor. My sneak is really high too but I've only got two perks for it

This is where I screwed up - big time! Trying to get back on track with Archery/Conjuration/Smithing.

when you guys say "don't try to be good at everything" are you talking about perks only, or use of the skills? because i actively use (and hence level) a bunch of skills just by my style of adventuring - sneak, heavy armor, archery, one-handed, restoration, smithing, alchemy, lockpicking, and enchanting - but i'm really only putting perks into one-handed, archery, smithing, and some heavy armor.

I'm only talking about perks.

destruction/enchanting and can't decide between either alteration (for mage armor) or smithing (for dragon armor)
Hobo Zombie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well, Alteration frees up space that you would usually have to have for your armor, that's one good point.
LGAggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
But one of the perks for heavy armor is worn armor becomes weightless. Not sure if that perk is in the light armor tree too. I leveled up and spent perks on heavy.

My perks have mainly been in smithing, enchanting, and heavy armor. I've also used perks in one handed, destruction and restoration. Only the useful ones in the last 3. Like in one handed, I only use a sword so I didn't waste perks on axes or maces.

For comparison I'm level 52 and there are no perks I'm really jonesing for. Perks from now on will just be gravy.
Hobo Zombie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He asked whether he should go through Smithing or Alteration, not Heavy/Light Armor. To get proficient at making and wearing Heavy/Light Armor you have to pour points into both Smithing and Heavy/Light Armor, whereas, he could just level up Alteration.

Now, now - no fighting

I guess it's just preference, but without some good armor right now I'm getting pasted. Don't know if I would get more protection from armor or magic defense.
LGAggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hmm. That's correct I guess. But I'd take a good levelled set of ebony armor over Mage armor any day. To each their own I suppose.
Hobo Zombie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not fighting. If my post sounded aggressive, my apologies, as that was not my intent.

I've been treating the perks like FO3. I focus on the ones that fit my style of play- so one handed, smithing, heavy armor, enchanting, and sneak. Next one will be in destruction. Currently level 38 and would be MUCH MUCH higher if there hadn't been a tragic filesave arrow to the knee which dropped me from lvl 27 all the way back to 9.

I kind of wish Skyrim would've adopted the armor penalties to magic that Oblivion had. Something about a mage sporting daedric armor just doesn't sit right. It is way better for hybrid characters though. I hate being tempted to use a ton of skills because I can't bring myself to not have smithing and enchanting; they're so awesome it isn't even fair. That only leaves me 2 or 3 other things I can invest in. Hell, I feel liked I wasted my perks in alchemy b/c I'm too lazy to poison my arrows...although the slow/damage health and paralyze poisons are pretty nasty.

Also, I'm disappointed you can't make arrows. I'm level 50 and have yet to see one daedric arrow. Of course I'm a pack rat and never use my good arrows since (thank God) they don't weigh anything, I just use all my crappy arrows until I get to boss fights. But I sure would like to see my carnage with my hands on some daedric arrows.

Also for X Box players (don't know how "favorites" works for PS3 and PC), I kind of wish they would've set up the different directions on the d-pad for different favorites. Like maybe up for equipment favorites, left for poisons/potions, right for spells, and down for shouts. Something like that. I have so many things favorited it takes forever to scroll up or down.
