Played all last night on ultra high in 3d. Level 15 high elf necromancer. I love my bound weapons, really frees up bad space

Joined the thieves guild and started fencing the crap out of all of my stolen items to buy a house to store more stolen crap in.

What a life!

That said, I'm worried that all of my pickpocketing and lockpicking will increase my level beyond my abilities as a fighter. I know that the enemies level-lock in a given zone based on your level when you visit them, but am I screwing myself by stealing stuff from people?

This game is better than Oblivion in every way possible.

Im impressed.

My old roommate did something similar in Oblivion. For whatever reason, he became infatuated with alchemy. He could make every potion in the book, but he needed every one of them because he got his ass kicked after leveling up so much. Not sure if it's any different with Skyrim, but I'd be careful.

quote:

Most RPGs have a built-in reward for your painstaking efforts to grow stronger than the fierce, two-foot-tall sewer rats of the world: you get to beat the stuffing out of the baddies who hung you from flagpoles and gave you swirlies back in the day.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, though? Not so much.

Instead, enemies’ levels would scale with yours, or washed up enemies would be replaced with something more capable of snapping you like a particularly sob-prone twig. As a result, players complained that the game lacked a tangible sense of progression, and it served as a small red mark on an otherwise fantastic game.

Fortunately, this time around, Bethesda’s learned its lesson.

“Since people are asking, wanted to briefly touch on level scaling. All our games have had some amount of randomness/leveling based on player level. Skyrim’s is similar to Fallout 3′s, not Oblivion’s,” wrote a Bethesda community manager on the game’s official forums.

Fallout 3′s level-scaling, of course, was much less pronounced and far more refined. In other words, no terrifying three-eyed gorilla monsters until we’ve got the gear, stats, and (hopefully) psychological preparation to deal with them.

Regular trolls aren't bad though, that's what got me killed by my first Ice Troll. "Oh, another troll...easy enough". 10 seconds later "...or not. Aaaand hit F9"

Minor Spoilers~***

I'm only level 10 so I run from any and all trolls hah... met a couple normal ones in a cave that handed it to me pretty good. Can't really damage them fast enough to keep up with their regen. Maybe I can now that I just crafted a superior dwarven mace.

The one on the path to High Hrothgar I ran ran ran from. Pretty funny that I meleed the ice dragon on the way up but had to run from a troll.

I found the troll cave you are talking about and was able to slowly work my way through it. Took me from level 10 to 11. The trick with trolls is fire, they can't regen that damage as fast as

Here's a little trick I found for Power Leveling:

Buy/Find the Illusion Spell "Muffle" and cast the sh*t out of it. I was Illusion 17, and I casted it 8 times in a row, and each time I went up a level in Illusion. I do it as I walk around towns and whatnot, and I'm at Illusion 80 now (my Character probably gained about 8 ACTUAL levels from this as well). To get from 17 to 50 probably took about 30 minutes.

You can also do the same with Detect Life for Alteration, but it's not NEAR as effective or rapid as Muffle is for Illusion.

Am I crazy for not specializing my charcter completly? Everyone is posting about their necromancer, or theif etc. I've got my guy as an archer, theif, who uses destruction magic, starting to use conjuration, and flips to a one handed sword for close combat.

That's the beauty of skyrim- play how you want. My character has morphed from a sword and board warrior to a dual-destruction spell flinger with heavy armor specialization

How do you do that?!

I'm level 26 and I've only cut one dude's head off--and I don't know how I did it? I think it was a combination of left and/or right arrow plus power attack.

That being said, I can sprint to somebody and kill them instantly. Pretty neat!

Only level 17 right now. I'm wearing heavy armor (exquisite skyforge steel) and I dual wield swords, but I'm using spells to boost my armor rating and keep myself healed up. I have a few destruction spells for range, so I guess my character is sort of like a Pally.

ok, I need to get this game. I suppose I can wait for a good deal but where is the best/cheapest (reputable) place to buy this from right now? Should I wait till Black Friday/Cyber Monday or so? i'm interested in the 360 version of the game.

I always feel like I need to invest multiple hours into these games every time I put them in. I thought I'd play a little bit before work today and I got one quest in and then spent the rest of the time riding a horse to Riften and just talking to people there. In all... didn't really accomplish much.

I try to put time in at night, but as much time as some quests take, I'll get one in or just pick up several minor ones before I either try to get some BF3 time in with friends or just go to sleep.

The scope and size of the game is insane. I still haven't finished the New Vegas DLCs and now I'm taking on Skyrim? Fallout 4 better be a couple years away if I'm going get this all done...

By the way... I love archery in the game. I'm still pretty early in the game so my best bow is the ancient nord bow you can get off the zombies in Bleak Falls Barrow. That plus the ancient nord arrows, which do the same amount of damage as steel arrows, are pretty salty against the early common enemies. The best thing to do is get sneaky and drop enemies with headshots, but that's not always an option. I stole an elven steel sword from Dragonsreach for those encounters...

Jesus, there are way too many good games right now.

Been testing SWTOR for the last 2 builds, then BF3 came out. Now Skyrim is out and I just get invited to the Diablo3 beta.

Efffing too little time.

This game is fantastic. Huge fan of fallout 3. This is my first elder scrolls game. Probably one of the best rpg's I've ever played. If you can buy it, definitely do.

Anyone know if there's anymore bard college missions other than the 3 where you have to search for the instruments?

I wasn't going to buy this game until December but I'm getting tired for ant sized soldiers killing me Battlefield 3.

I've only played morrowind/oblivion on the XBOX.

Skyrim's PC controls are DRIVING ME INSANE.

GIVE ME A REAL MENU, NOT ONE THAT WAS PORTED OFF A CONSOLE.

Arg, maybe someone in the mod community will fix this. I mean, JEBUS.

I have a keyboard. I can use more than 4 buttons!

Anyone else swap out their mouse buttons to make them align with your hands?

And I can tell after only 2.5 hours, this will consume my life. I have a horrible habit of walking around everywhere aimlessly and not following any quest objectives at all. Eventually, I'll complete a few by accident or do something that ruins a quest.

(though, i got in trouble one time, as I had built up a badass character in morrowind, completed darn near all the guild missions, and then when I go to complete the main quest, find out that on day 3 of the journey that I had killed some person that made the tribe that I needed to talk to attack me on sight. Also, one of the mage guild quests always bugged for me in oblivion. Still mad about that one on playthrough No. 2).

So, rumor has it that the leveling system isn't completely buggered like it was in oblivion.

Explain? I can now just level as I please and there won't be dire consequences? I remember that to 'maximize' your character in IV you had to specifically not use your 'leveling skills' to gain max bonus points.

Yah, Predmid.... they did away with the stats gaining systems they've had in the past so you can level however you want without worrying about maxing out your int/stm/str/etc.

So I've been reading that some people are reporting glitches and slowdowns (or outright freezing) with the PS3 version the larger your save file gets.

Anybody here experienced this? This is the exact same issue I had with Fallout 3 and why I never finished it. If this is true, then it's 360 all the way for me with this one.

really impressed with the scope of the game. I'm disappointed in how easy the dragons have been so far. I'm around a level 15 kill it with fire or sword hybrid kinda guy. Doing the mage quests right now and i'm somewhere in labyrythian. I think i'll work on smithing and enchanting next to get some higher level gear and then venture back to the MQ

I installed the game on my xbox and the textures are horrible. Apparently, you get high res textures if the game ISN'T installed. Weird.

I think Bethesda is working on it.
