Last night was a bad decision.

I still couldn't sleep at 1, started playing and then all of a sudden "oh, hey, it's bright outside".

Oh well. Level 3!

That comic nails it.

And I had a "broom" moment myself with linen in Skyrim. I had 30 rolls of linen at one point before I dumped them all in a Barrow. I kept thinking you might be able to use them to make robes or something, but they started really weighing me down and they had to go.

Turns out there is a book in the game entitled "How to Kill a Troll", I came across it last night while doing a Thieves Guild quest

The comic is indeed brilliant. I remember in Oblivion, the first cave I went into had all of this Alchemy equipment laying around. I saw all that stuff that looked expensive and was like "SCORE!!!!". I grabbed pretty much everything in that dungeon and had no idea why.

I came into Skyrim with that funny thought in mind but sure enough, when you are first starting out with NOTHING, EVERYTHING looks like treasure and I started my mini horde in hopes of selling it for a little profit. Of course, my character had no speech skills at all and I got next to nothing for all of it.

I'm pretty sure I'm always destined to be +80% burdened at all times because every cave will have decent armor/weapons/crap that you can sell somewhere!!!!

My favorite thing so far is the blocking system, I've got my blocking skill pretty high up, and I've got some enchantments for extra blocked damage, I can just sit in a corner and take all the hits, and then stagger enemies with my shield before the oh so gratifying coup de grace resulting in a headless necromancer.

So my story for last night was my wife went to bed at 10:30... I thought I'd get an hour of Skyrim in before I called it a night. LOL... then I found a dragon to fight. Cool... killed it.

Then I thought I'd at least try to FINALLY get to the grey beards... but oooohhhh, I found another cave... I'll just take a quick peak inside!!! LOL, it was a very intense cave with some really cool story elements. It's 1 AM now and I finally beat the cave and claim a sweet @$$

So it wasn't exactly a quick hour game session!!!

You boys hadn't heard that!? You can double it up alright!!! Throw fire from both hands, or mix it up... fire & lightening... it's like a Sith with a flame thrower!!!! Or you can throw out the hurt while healing yourself with the other hand.

It's all good in the hood...... no literally, my guy wears a magic hood!!!!!

Just finished Gears of War. All the while I was thinking I was gonna buy MW3 and play that into the winter. But reading this thread and watching reviews has me reconsidering.

I've had limited experience with these types of RPG's. I used to be a Square/Enix guy, but stopped after high school because I never had time.

Then I picked up Fallout 3 for cheap after Circuit City died. Game was nuts. Played the hell out of it, but never finished. Still loved it. Now I'm really thinking of picking this up over MW3 thanks to this thread.

Head Ninja:

Dude, I'm still playing Gears online (not sure if you are a MP guy or not) and I still love it. I also really love some BF3. I picked up Skyrim as my offline fix and man I love it! I was an OK fan of Oblivion and really like Fallout... this game has improved on both (major improvement over Oblivion).

I'm a family man and don't have tons of time to play all 3 games, but the beauty of Skyrim is that you can save at any time. So while you are always tempted to play for multiple hours, you can also get in a quick 20 minutes and then save/stop as soon as its family time.

I'm also an old COD vet and I can say that I skipped it this year. That's mostly because I got hooked on BF, but also because a LOT of guys, on this board even, are really kinda MEH on MW3. Like the formula is finally getting a bit stale. I'll pick it up for the single player experience sometime later on, but in the meantime I'm really enjoying these other 3 games as something different, especially since these games do not release every year like COD.

Dual casting with the stagger perk is insane. A few 100% magic regen items and not much is going to stop you.

jr15aggie, thanks for the advice. I hear you. I start grad school in January and I'm currently marathon training. Throw in a full-time job and a GF, and it really comes down to having time for only one game at a time.

Wish I had more time to play all of these games currently out, but it's not looking that way. I also have a PS3, so I was also looking at Uncharted. But it's looking like Skyrim right now.

I have a question. I played the heck out of Oblivion, but never completed the main quest (because this game came out).

Is this stuff about the Thalmar something that happened in the Oblivion game, or is it something that has happened since the time Elder Scrolls IV occurred?

I kept thinking I would try this game out and then go back and finish Oblivion before playing too much of this game, but now I don't see that happening.

Anyways, I just spoke to three Thalmar marching a prisoner off to be interrogated. It didn't go too well and they ended up opening a can of whoop-ass on me.

I think you mean "pick it up" as in "grab" from oblivion. Hold down A on the object and you can grab and manipulate it

I go the bash face route...dual wielding some fine steel maces with extra damage perks, I tend to drop baddies pretty quick. I need to figure out how to do this weapon enchanting stuff, can you buy enchantments for your weapons or do you have to do it for yourself?

This game is based many years after oblivion. You can play this game with no knowledge of oblivion (though you will miss some details)

I believe it goes:

1. find a weapon/armor piece with an enchantment
2. go to the enchanting alter thingy and "break" the item (item disappears forever, but you learn that particular enchantment)
3. use filled soul gem + item + learned enchantment at enchantment alter thing

no, but I did a time value of money thing in estimating how long it would take me to fence at the proper store to maximize profits.

I've been "improving" items at the blacksmith workbench, enchanting them, and selling them, but the merchants will only give me about 50% of the value that is listed in my Item menu. Does anyone know if this is wholly attributable to my Speech skill (in the 40's) or is there something else afoot?

Also, one thing that really eliminates some hassle is to buy all the furniture for your house in Whiterun. This gives you an Alchemy lab with a chest to store things in along with numerous cabinets, barrels, etc. that you can use to store items. I'm using a chest for ingredients (the one in the alchemy lab), a cabinet for blacksmithing supplies, another chest for miscellaneous crap, and a cabinet for armor/weapons that I either need to sell or want to hold on to. It really helps to eliminate all the "WHERE THE HELL DID I PUT THAT GIANT'S TOE" stuff that can be prevalent in a game like this.

For your health.

Bit the bullet and bought the game after following this thread for a few days. As a huge fan of Fallout 3 and FO New Vegas, I'm hoping this can deliver the same fun in a new setting.

Anyone else start the dark brotherhood quests yet?

***Spoilers****

I killed the wench at the orphanage and then took the nap and got kidnapped. I figured that killing her would prolly get me into the dark brotherhood, but I thought the extra quest was pretty cool. Had a good atmosphere. It would have been cool if they'd made it more saw-ish though. You wake up in a house full of traps and in order to escape you gotta kill an innocent person or something. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing what other quests there are because I've heard they're pretty badass.

It's a constant struggle for me with what items to keep and what to sell. I pretty much clear dungeons and caves now and don't take anything but arrows, potions and gold. Stamina increases your capacity but I feel like I rarely have too little stamina otherwise to put points into it.

I'm loving so much about the game and the different styles of play. My character has a little bit of everything which I hope doesn't hurt me down the road.

You can go at 6, just dodge the troll. Run around him using sprint. Up to you, but it might be worth waiting until you're a higher level.
