I honestly thought they'd announce something today in an attempt to upstage two of their division rivals who had playoff games. I guess Jerry's gonna follow the Dak and CeeDee playbook and just wait til the absolute last minute to give McCarthy the same deal he could have been given weeks ago?
Part of me wonders if they're seriously considering Kellen Moore or Kingsbury and are trying to get a solid from one before making a decision with Mike.

But also extremely predictable. You know Jerry wanted to see what he could do with Dak back in 2025, but didn't want to pay for a longer term deal
I don't think McCarthy was the problem, but he clearly wasn't the solution either. No big deal either way for me. However, this all should have happened last offseason or the middle of this one. I can't remember the last time a coach was allowed to just run out his contract. Everyone else is either fired or extended long before that
Edit: hard not to believe the person that said the Cowboys have cash flow issues. They constantly cheap out on coaching, free agents, and push contracts to the last minute. The only solutions that make sense are senile Jerry turning into a cheapskate or the money just not being there

Feel bad for Big Mike, he got a raw deal this year. Winning 7 games with that roster and that many injuries was impressive IMO.
That being said this is a good year to hire a coach if you're going to. Lots of really solid looking candidates.

At the same time, if the logic is "let's see what X coach can do with Dak" there are better options available. Go get one of the Payton or Shanahan disciples that routinely maximize QB abilities.

I'm dancing a jig. Part of me doesn't even care if it leaves us worse off. Similar feels to when we bounced Jimbo out. I just can't stand the clipboard coaches, especially when they look so clueless when **** hits the fan in games. I'll not miss seeing that confused face on the sidelines.
I still think it's more ego issues than cash flow issues. They think people should be lining up to play or coach here and operate that way. They sit back and wait.

I think we've seen Kliff enough as a HC at multiple levels to know he's a great play caller that shouldn't be a HC.

Liam Coen
Monken is a bit old for my taste but it's undeniable what he's done at both the college and NFL level as a play caller

Ben Johnson is an option legit NFL franchises should covet. Prime, Gruden and Kingbury are not - therefore I expect it NOT to be Ben Johnson.

Sark is another guy who screams "Greta play caller, poor institutional manager". Texas has de facto acknowledged that by the unique system they have set up for him (basically he's an OC getting paid like a HC with a self sustaining system around him).

Also, I really do not understand how any self respecting sports fan can spout the "It doesn't matter as long as Dak is here" line I'm seeing all over the place.
The Minnesota Vikings just went 14-3 with Sam ****ing Darnold a top 5 MVP candidate. The Lions are NFC favorites with Jared Goff. The Eagles have been great for 3 years now with a QB that has to have an entire system built around him with elite talent just to be functional. The 49ers made two SBs with Jimmy G and Brock Purdy. Baker Mayfield is now a legitimate NFL starter in Tampa. And all that just in the last 5 years in the NFC alone.
Dak is one year removed from being the highest rated QB in football. He's still top 10 all time in adjusted QBR. The idea that you can't win with him if you get the right coach is not only logically absurd, it's observably false. Guys that nobody would argue are better than him regularly have their teams in contention.
