I'm holding out hope that Jerry has enough faith in a Belichik to hire him as coach and let him come in and buy the groceries too…

That's what he let Jimmy do, and yes…I'm fully aware that this isn't in his nature after he and Jimmy had a falling out…

I pray he's willing to see it my way, though I have no reason to have confidence that he will…

Actually the reason Belichik isn't the coach of the Patriots anymore is because he had been terrible at drafting for about a decade. Go look at their first round picks the 10-15 years before he got fired. It's about a 0% hit rate. He had competitive teams with bad players the last 2-3 years there. You'd keep him away from the GM office.

If you pair Belichik or Vrabel with the way this team drafts, you should have a good team.

The Cowboys inability to run the ball is this teams biggest issue at the moment that doesn't have an answer. We know the run defense is terrible; it has been for half a decade now and will only get fixed by spending money and draft capital, but the o line I've got no clue. Dowdle stinks and we have no one worth a damn at RB, but you don't run the ball as poorly as we do without other problems.

The rest of this season needs to be spent improving Guyton and Beebe, and figuring out what you have behind the starting five. I'd like to see them walk away from Steele, but if Martin retires (which he should) do you really want to replace your entire right side of the line again?

No Free agent or draft pick is going to help us until we change the culture of the entire organization, not just the team.
Jerry has been "getting out of the way" in the draft room at least. Will mcclay has done a great job for us there and getting him a top 5 draft position is pretty exciting.

As long as we don't pick guys from Michigan…….

The draft is all this crappy team / franchise has to look forward to. We just need to keep on losing.

I agree that you don't take a RB in the 1st but if you don't think Jerry isn't giddy inside right now about drafting a potential Heisman winning RB that went to high school 8 miles from the Cowboys headquarters, you're crazy. In his mind he gets a chance to recreate the Zeke glory days but with a hometown kid.

What were the zeke glory days? 2 divisional round exits paired with 2 wild card round exits?

Top 5 in merchandise sales from 2016-2019. Rookie of the year.

Those are glory days to Jerry.

I'm certain that we will see us finish 4-13, then watch Jerry hire Kellen Moore to be the next coach. He's controllable, affordable (jerry hates paying coaches), and would want the job. He's not paying Belichick what he's worth and nobody who has succeeded before anywhere in the NFL as a head coach will come here to work under Jerry. Think of the Raiders and the last few coaches they had after Gruden left. Always with a brand new coach, the youngest in the league, controllable, etc..They'll sell us on Kellen "knowing" Dak, that the Oline will be better with experience, and we will draft a lineman and a RB in the first two rounds.

Then Dak will suck against any decent team, probably get hurt, and we will go 3-14.

Look, I'm just as OUT on Jerry as the next guy right now. In some ways he's been a joke... but he's not THAT stupid. He was part of the front office that fired Kellen two years ago... and since then, most of what Kellen has shown only justifies that decision to move on.

Jerry wants to make a splash. Fans will forget the terrible season and rally behind JW.

Just the kind of thing Jerry will do…Jerry wants a Dan Campbell

Lol They just played a Colin Cowherd clip on the radio saying Jerry should bet throw the farm at the Sanders. Bring in Deion and then spend whatever it takes to draft his son (Colin said trade multiple 1st round picks and even Parsons to guarantee the 1/1).

Is the media seriously convincing themselves that Shadeur is gonna be a great NFL QB?
Tksymm7

I mean I would take Shadeur tomorrow over a 240 million dollar Dak Prescott.

ETA: and tbh I would give it some thought if I were Jerry. If Jerry really only cares about eyeballs on the Cowboys, taking Shadeur and hiring Deion as the head coach would instantly make them the most talked about/watched team in all of American sports.

If Sanders is the next coach I'm done watching the Cowboys. The transformation into a circus will be complete.

Dak has something like a $150M dead cap hit if you get rid of him this off-season. Any talk of replacing him is absolutely not rooted in reality.

Both Dak and CeeDee's contracts have "void years' built into them.
So no, they arent going to count as 45% of the cap next year, its going to be more like 20% of the cap

You should watch Shadeur. He is very very good. He is incredibly accurate, understands complex offenses and defenses, and makes good decisions. He is a legit pro QB prospect with high upside.

I dont think it feasible to draft him without trading Dak. But plenty of teams need a QB. so there could be a market. I would rather the Cowboys trade Parsons for additional 1st round picks (lol Jerry would trade him for 2 second rounders and a washed up DT) and draft help on the LOS to go with Travis Hunter at WR. The Cowboys could retool pretty quickly by trading Parsons. But that is too smart for Jerry. He needs Parsons so he can sell the future.

I could see Dak waiving his no trade for the right spot. He would get a reboot where he is the new star instead of his current status as choke artist.

I don't doubt that he can have success in the NFL, I just don't think he's a sure shot 1/1 that you throw away a bunch of draft capital to go get.

You'd tell Dak to ride pine for next season and then cut him, or trade him to some desperate ass franchise for a bag of chips. If you are able to land Shadeur and Deion, who cares what you get in return, and who cares about optics.

Well Dallas is staring at a top 3 pick. Trade Parsons and maybe have three 1st round picks in 2025. I would love for Dallas to get Hunter at WR. Then get a guard or left tackle (They could keep Bass at RG and Guyton to RT), maybe a DT if a true game changer is there. Ideally they keep Dak but trading him could net something big in return. This is all never going to happen though. Jerrry builds teams around marketing and not having Dak and Parsons is a tough sell in his mind regardless of who is the new coach.
Tksymm7

Let me preface by saying I agree, none of this is happening, but I think we underestimate how big of a deal it would be to have Deion as head coach and his son Shadeur as the starting QB. It would be box office upon box office, tickets sold for years to come, on every TV/Radio show in the country, and ratings galore. That is what Jerry cares about, and this would blow the top off the franchise, imo.

ETA: as Jerry fades (I use this word specifically) into his twilight years, there's nothing that would put him in the grave quicker than than the Cowboys also fading into irrelevance. Jerry wants to go out with the spotlight on him and his team, no matter how they are performing.

Shadeur routinely takes sacks instead of throwing the ball away because he'd rather put the team in worse position and have the OL take blame than hurt his %. He's got a lot of good points too but that says something.

No GM is going to bench a top 10 QB, especially one who is the highest paid in the league. Again, this isn't rooted in reality.

That is ridiculous. Quarterbacks are taught to take sacks instead of making an errand throw resulting in a TO or getting stripped sack trying to get rid of it. It is called "eating the ball" and it is a pro move. He has confidence he can pick up a 2nd & 17. Could he improve his anticipation to get rid of some of these? I am sure he could. But to say he does it to not hurt his stats is crazy, scouts would know and that would be a bigger problem than winning awards and %.

I think Sanders could absolutely be a successful NFL QB, but there are no sure things at QB and I don't know if he's worth the drama to find out (although Jerry injects drama into his veins, so that's a moot point)

Take away all the promotion Deion has done (necessary) to put Colorado on the map and look at what he has done on the field. He assembled a very good staff made of up pro coaches with complex schemes. He attracted necessary talent to fit the scheme in college football. He took a 1-11 team and has them 8-2 23 months later.

So he knows how to win. He knows how to delegate. He knows how to hire coaches to fit his vision of a winning team. He knows how to communicate with players. He knows how to motivate players. That is a coaches job in the NFL. He wont have to deal with recruiting and wont have much to do with personnel.

I know Texags and everyone hates him but he has shown he knows how to do the basics of coaching at a high level. Oddly enough, most coaches don't know how to delegate or build a staff of coaches that can coach up players (cough Jimbo)

I dont know if he can be a successful coach in the NFL but his resume is coming together and he is showing signs of actually knowing how to be a coach.
Macarthur
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree w all you said here.

I just wonder how he would adjust to the pro game as his big advantage of being Deion, with regards to recruiting, would be gone.
