How long do you want to ignore this user?
I thought that was a great episode. I knew there was a reason I didn't like either Sawyer or Charlie. But they slowly suckered me into thinking they were harmless.

In any case, I find it frustrating that people want major plot advancements every episode. WE ALREADY KNOW THERE IS A 5 YEAR STORYLINE. They aren't going to give away any major secrets this year, or next, or maybe even the next. I watch because of the story they are weaving together, strand by strand. I don't watch because I want the mystery solved in 1 neat episode.

I wasn't that fond of this episode. Where are they going with Charlie and Sawyer?

my random thought for the week: they keep mentioning the guy whose name no one knows...Scott/Steve. Probably just a running joke, but how would Ana Lucia know the wrong name, as that guy died LONG before she ever showed up.

Locke is searching for something, anything to get him back in touch with the island. That's why he was shaking through all those books... he's got to believe there's more film or a key or something. He can't believe the hatch is a dead end.

Unknowns for me at this point are Jin, Sun, Claire and Hugo.

Jin was supposed to kill someone as part of his job.

But I think the parental issue is more important. All the characters have some issues with a father or son.

Does Hugo or Charlie fit into that? I can't seem to remember parental issues with them, other than Hugo's grandfather falling dead of a heart attack during his lottery interview.

FYI, the script Hurley was reading was titled "Bad Twin"...

SPOILER

... and it's been rumored for a few weeks now that Jack will aparently meet his twin/clone sometime soon.

We dont know what happened to Hurley's father (if we ever will)

Same thing with Charlie - his dad wasn't in the picture and now he has issues with Aaron.

A lot of people are assuming that this episode was full of "red herrings" that the writers were having fun with, given all the message board rumors floating around here.

The "bad twin" reference and widely thrown about theory of everyone's twin meeting at once. The book Locke picked up about a fantasical delusion before death. Hurley's referece to maybe "from a different time" for wormholes.

If anyone caught anymore be sure to bring them up.

I am glad they put Sawyer back on the dark side. He is my favorite char, but doesn't have the same presence when he is not in conflict with someone. Things were getting a little too friendly within the camp in regards to Sawyer the past few weeks.

Sawyer is by far my favorite character now, along with Eko. Charlie in the hoodie is starting to turn into Gollum.

Here's some tidbits from EW's TV Watch
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/commentary/0,6115,1158064_3_0_,00.html

quote:
First there's Locke, rifling through an Ambrose Bierce short story for...what? Clues about the hatch? The real clue, most likely, is the story itself. ''Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge'' is a massive parallel-reality fake-out, the 19th-century granddaddy of ''it was all a dream!'' Goes like this: A Rebel sympathizer is being hanged on a bridge by Union troops. The rope breaks; he falls into the river and escapes. A harrowing journey home ensues. He dodges bullets. He crashes through the woods. Finally he makes it home. His wife opens her arms to him...and the rope catches, breaking his neck. It was all a fantasy, and the joke is on you, dear reader. What does this have to do with Lost? Perhaps it's a clue to the dream state these survivors inhabit. Perhaps it pertains specifically to Locke, who entertains the grandest illusions of the island's inherent beneficence.

And then there's that manuscript, the one Hurley was reading before Sayid came along to play radio. (Yes, Sayid. Remember him? Gosh how I miss that guy. Oh, and by the way, Jack, if you're starting an army? Ask an army officer for help. Not a police officer.) The book is Bad Twin, by Gary Troup, a mystery writer who boarded flight 815 and is now presumed dead. From Amazon (where the ''real'' book will soon be sold, in a gloriously meta tie-in):

Paul Artisan, P.I. is a new version of an old breed — a righter of wrongs, someone driven to get to the bottom of things. Too bad his usual cases are of the boring malpractice and fraud variety. Until now. His new gig turns on the disappearance of one of a pair of twins, adult scions of a rich but tragedy-prone family. The missing twin — a charismatic poster-boy for irresponsibility — has spent his life daring people to hate him, punishing himself endlessly for his screw-ups and misdeeds. The other twin — Artisan's client — is dutiful and resentful in equal measure....Troup's long-awaited Bad Twin is a suspenseful novel that touches on many powerful themes, including the consequence of vengeance, the power of redemption, and where to turn when all seems lost.

The dueling dualities continue. Locke and Eko? Ana-Lucia and Jack? Sawyer and Kate? All light-dark pairings, all ''twins,'' in a sense.

quote:

Lest we forget Sawyer is a lying, murderous sonofa*****, we saw him pulling off two ''long cons'' in parallel: one in flashback (which included a blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of Kate's mom, Diane, waiting on Sawyer at a diner) and one on the island, involving an unseen and (at least for me) unguessed accomplice, Charlie. Nice to see them diving into the abyss with these characters instead of rehabilitating them.

I liked this episode. I have learned not to read too much into the previews for the next episode.

I bet that in the end the plane really crashes and everyone dies, and this whole series ends up being something that flashed in someone's mind seconds before they all die.

My question is, so many times Charlie tried to follow Locke, and Locke knew he was there. How did it work this time?
I_bleed_maroon
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah. Charlie's tracking skills are not exactly stealth.

How about Kate's mom in the diner? I still think there is a Sawyer/Kate connection somehow.

Locke's mind was extremely occupied in trying to get the guns hidden quickly. I am sure that he didn't pay too close attention to if someone was following him.

Now we'll see what the writers are made of. Locke and Jack are both smart guys, as is Sayid. It won't take long for them to realize that having no guns (can't find the stash) is a whole lot better than an evil dude having all the guns. Sawyer has to sleep sometime, they should kill him. If they don't then they are a bunch of idiots who deserve to get eaten by the giant robot chicken or whatever else is going to get them on the island! In my opinion, the writers just wrote themselves into an intellectual corner. If Sawyer doesn't get offed then the rest of the people are VERY simple and lack courage (something inconsistent in their character development so far). If Sawyer does get killed (the only solution I can see to remedy this problem), then one of the coolest characters on the show is now gone...bummer. Thoughts?

I don't think Sawyer is really evil. I think he is tired of being unimportant in the whole scheme of island politics. That's besides the point, though, because it's how Jack, Locke, and Sayid sees him that matters.
atealot
How long do you want to ignore this user?
My point exactly. Doesn't matter if you're evil or not in your heart. What matters is that the inhabitants of the island will see him that way. Bad guys are bad, bad guys with guns are worse, but bad guys with ALL the guns need to go away! The writers essentially wrote themselves into that lone answer in the set of multiple choices on a test that contains the "All" or "Never" or "None" statement that, by definition, must be eliminated as a choice. Crying shame, really. Thought they were better than that. Maybe they'll surprise me, though. Only way to really get out of it is to have "The Others" nab him and then he's gone but not dead. Hmm.

I really wouldn't reduce them to that. I don't think this is a corner for the writers, more of a direct conflict that must be confronted... and given my confidence in writers, it's not going to be predictable. Remember that Charlie knows where the guns are also, and that he's looking for ever more attention than Sawyer is right now.

I don't think they'd kill Sawyer, because then they'd never find the guns.

What I thought was poor writing was when Sawyer turned to Sayid and said "you want to torture me, don't you? But I'll die before I tell you where the guns are".

Uh, sorry, but it doesn't work like that. You can WANT to not tell, but I have a feeling that the tactics of a Iraqi Republican Guard "Professional Torturer" will be more than a two-bit con artist can resist.

It was as if the writer's knew we'd all scream "just have Sayid get the truth out of him!" so they threw that in. Unfortunately (for the writers) that is exactly what should happen and it would be successful.
AgDC
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think the previews indicate that's exactly what's going to happen. They show Sayid locking himself in a room with Sawyer (one presumes).
cone
How long do you want to ignore this user?
According to this week's preview of next week's episode, they're supposed get a hold of an "Other" next week. I think you see Sayid dealing with that guy rather than Sawyer.

I think while no one really trusts sawyer... he is a guy they all want when its crunch time... i.e giving him a gun to get Ethan last year, and to chase down michael.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Good call on the Locke keeping the statues to test Charlie's commitment to keep off drugs in the future.

I still love Sawyer and would want him around when the chips are down. I'd be one of the cast-a-ways who would want all the guns in his hand rather than the random hands of the rest of those boobs. After all, Ana Lucia has already accidentally killed someone and rage will make people do funny things. Sawyer lets his own personal hatred for people make him do things, but never in a uncontrolled fit. He thinks things through and I don't think will hurt anyone who doesn't deserve it.

BTW - kudos to the producers for introducting the episode with a shirtless, wet Sawyer. I'd like to see every episode begin that way.

Can I make a request that we keep this thread spoiler free? Even with the tags, it's fairly easy to accidentally read something you don't want to. Especially if it's directly above the post you are currently reading.

I think there use to be a LOST spoiler thread?
redass_ag

I thought they mentioned what SuperDave said in the preview for next week.
AgDC
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm not talking about any particular one, I've just noticed a lot of SPOILER ALERTS popping up on this thread. Texags doesn't have the spoiler tag feature that allows you to black out text that readers can choose to highlight and read if they want the spoilers. Just a thought. Some folks (me included) really don't want to be spoiled so I go out of my way to stay away from places that are potetially spoliery. I don't want this thread to be one!

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I said "potential spoiler" because they sorta mentioned it in the preview for next week's episode.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The thing is that if it's a spoiler, most likely it has been leaked intentionally and it is off base.

Excepr for the deaths. So far, they have been, ahem, dead on.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with laying off the spoiler alerts on this thread. I read this thread to see what everyone's opinions and theories are, not to have an episode ruined for me. I enjoy the show and I actually like that I don't have a clue what's going on from week to week. That's the best part of the show.

Sayid had tortured Sawyer before, so it was logical for Sawyer to say that to him.
