Have seen some reviews that put it above TDK in a list of "great sequels", which would really be something.

I remember seeing TDK and just being blown away, though some of the plot issues didn't immediately hit me on first viewing. From what I've gathered, the plot to Maverick is pretty damn simple, which is refreshing. Not every film needs a bunch of complicated arcs and twists.

I will say, this is the first BIG group outing I've done for a movie since probably TDKR in 2012. Even for something like TFA or Endgame, I think that was only five or six of us. We used to do big groups all the time between 2008 and 2012 or so, but since then nothing else has really warranted it, friends can't get away as easily with kids now, etc. But Saturday, there are ten of us going, we're doing dinner afterwards, people have babysitters, etc. Everyone is so amped and I can't wait. It's gonna be like old times again.

Had to look him up... He directed Tron Legacy and Oblivion. I love both of those flicks! Tron is just a hella good time and if I ever made a top 10 list of my favorite movies Oblivion would probably be in it or very close.

More excited now!


EDIT: Just now saw all the other comments about how he directed Oblivion so my google searching wasn't necessary. But still, glad to see other fans here. And I'll also say that he benefited from a kick ass soundtrack in both of those films.

Kosinski also directed the highly underrated (but also heart-wrenching) Only the Brave. In fact, I think that was his last movie. But it's where he met/connected with Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly, and then ultimately brought them both onto TG:M…

It's an interesting bit of casting to have Miles Teller as the protagonist, and Chris Hemsworth as the villain - you'd think that would be reversed.

I would absolutely say that and yes the flight/fight scenes appeared to be in IMAX. Overall a very well put together movie, such a fun ride!!

$185M was my original prediction. $100-125M is where tracking/expectations are. I think it *at least* hits $150M. Either way, it's poised to be both Cruise's highest opening ever, along with the highest Memorial Day Weekend ever…

I keep reading reactions on and off from all the Tuesday night screenings and people are absolutely losing their minds over this thing. They're basically the first Average Joe/fan reactions and they're even more over the moon than many of the critic/press reactions. A lot of them from the younger crowd too, which is surprising. This Tuesday night thing might very well be genius. Word of mouth is going to spread like wild fire by this weekend.

Still boggles my mind that the comic movie loyalist could not understand how big this movie was going to be. Repeat viewings and cross-generational audience will help this movie easily climb the rankings at the box office.
