So is this stop animation or 100% CGI?

No idea, but it's 100% awesome!

Probably CGI. Too many Legos. You also don't get the face and arm movement with real Legos. Some of the planes and things may have been been built to model off of, but the video itself is 100% CGI like the movies (sans live action).

What is it all of a sudden that anything with Legos just makes anything instantly better/hilariously awesome???

That is awesome. The comments mention it being a combo of stop motion with CGI backgrounds

Dunno, but I've watched that more times today than I'd like to admit. Seeing it makes me want a shot for shot Lego remake. It would be amazing.

I kind of want it more than the actual movie...

Holding steady for July 2 - hopefully if Black Widow holds for May 8, the rest of the Big Movies will hold the line

Some bad news apparently about to drop. Just got word. All I know is that it's at least staying in 2021. Should be breaking soon...

Just got the details, but I'll wait for the story to drop. BIG calendar shift - not just this movie - though I actually really like where it's landing.

awful to continue to have to wait -

but the worst is that MI-8 goes out 14 months to July 2023???

14 months? It moved from Nov '22 to July '23. Each M:I movie simply shifted from their respective November dates to the following summers.

Is there any concern that the theater model may be in trouble? I know they're looking globally but you'd think with vaccines going out places would be open for an early July release.

sorry - I wasn't clear... MI:8 is coming out 14 months after Mi:7 is released

since they are being filmed together, was hoping for 8 months separation... 2023 seems like forever from now...

I guess they are focusing on Big Event weekends - Thanksgiving and Memorial Day so I get it but man... just wanted to see these movies way sooner than they are being released..

They aren't filming back to back anymore. The shift in the schedule of the first one made it come up too close to another movie Cruise is doing. They don't have a start date for M:I8 yet, I believe.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Correct. Once it was announced a couple months ago that they were no longer filming back-to-back, there was no way M:I8 was keeping that November '22 date regardless.

This was more of scheduling/competition conflict than anything. With F9 moving to the weekend before (6/25) and Black Widow moving to the weekend after (7/9), TG2 had zero room to breathe/shine. Now it can rule Thanksgiving, both weekends before/after, and all week in between.

As for theaters, they'll be more than fine. Starting Memorial Day Weekend, there's still a big, if not massive release, at least every couple of weeks for the rest of the summer...

As we wait, let's look back at 1986 and wonder if this year will be more eventful.

Dip**** studios are going to kill the theaters if they keep pushing out the big movies.

Theaters lasted 12 months without any meaningful product to sell. Plus, they finally had a big weekend last weekend, all things considered. If they made it this far they can last one more month until new/worthy movies are consistently in theaters again, starting mid-May. Then, like I said, even without TG2, there's still a massive film coming out basically every other weekend, through the end of the summer. Come fall, it gets even crazier, as the last four months of the year will see...

- THREE marvel movies
- No Time to Die
- Top Gun: Maverick
- Dune
- A Matrix Movie
- A Ghostbusters Movie
- A Venom Sequel

... not to mention all the awards fare and other big-name titles.

In other words, theaters are going to be just fine.

AMC avoided bankruptcy because of the crazy wallstreetbets effect on their stock price. They capitalized the stock, but that money will run out eventually. Other theaters have had to take loans out to keep limping along with the hope they'll be able to return to normal soon.

The longer they stay shut and home theaters become the norm, the bigger the danger that people simply don't show up when the movies do come out.

At this point, my main worry would be that people and studios stop releasing things like Coming 2 America in theaters. There will always be big movies like Marvel properties and action flicks that you'll truly want to see on the big screen. Other things where that screen size and massive sound aren't a big deal, I'll watch at home if given the option and I wonder if they wouldn't end up making more money that way. Maybe it just ends with the end of these massive 20-30 screen cineplexes.

Indeed. Alamo Drafthouse went bankrupt.

I'm surprised TC of all people is somewhat blas about this. But...I suppose he's the expert.

Yes, Alamo Drafthouse went bankrupt, but you're leaving out the part where they restructured under new ownership, with new financing, are still in business, and essentially the same people will be running the day-to-day going forward.

As for AMC, they're doing perfectly fine right now. They have more than enough new financing to last "deep into 2021" (their words), well past the point when theater-going will see a return to normal.

It's just weird to me that you guys are *only now* acting like the sky is falling, when, after 12 MONTHS, all the major chains are still alive, most of the smaller ones are too, theater-going is basically back and will only get better, they had a fantastic weekend last weekend (the best since March 2020), with a ridiculous amount of blockbusters to come the rest of the year, consistently, starting next month.

The storm was weathered. Everyone's good to go. And people are already showing that they're ready to return to theaters in droves, all over the world.

I don't understand what the issue is.

What makes you say I haven't been concerned about the movie industry until now.
