That's why I watch Walking Dead, to nerd out.
I won't be upset with the show if they never explain the origin as it doesn't really impact it. I just find that kinda stuff and real pandemic plagues and how humanity deals with it fascinating.
This show is a learning tool on how to respond when the chit hits the fan IRL. It's bound to happen at some point. Not zombies, but some cluster that ruins civilization. We are about due.

I'm re-reading WWZ...Patient Zero and his father revisited their abandoned home town, which was flooded by a massive dam project, looking for treasure/artifacts. He was bitten by something while he was swimming.

That was a pretty phenomenal episode.
I really liked the speech that Rick gave at the end of the episode, maybe it's just because it wasn't Andrea giving it, but mixed with him not going crazy with the Lori ghosts and relinquishing some power I feel like he could be the badass he was when he drew on those 2 guys in the bar
