I've seen all of the episodes at least twice and I didn't think this one was great....BUT I think it laid a lot of groundwork for development.
Of course...the Governor and his absolute love of all things carnage. The slow walk and smile while chaos ensues....I loved it.
2) Blood is thicker than water. Having your child, brother/sister, father/mother, etc is very important and having that connection to the days before is so relevant to how you choose to survive. I don't think Daryl will stay away for long, though as I think that relationship is broken - especially with the way Daryl has grown and Merle has just stayed the same. I did and loved how Daryl kind of cowered when seeing Merle - no matter how tough Daryl is, Merle is still his aggressor and dominant player in their relationship. It's the only time you see Daryl as weakened.
3) Andrea. Sure she's annoying, but I've grown to at least appreciate her character. Where do her loyalties really lie? She now knows that her old crew still exists, but she seems to be a de facto leader of the Woodbury group now. What happens when the two groups collide again, and what will her choice be?
4) Glenn and Maggie. Saw on the Talking Dead that Steven Yuen researched the relationship of sexual assault victims and their partners, and that the partner will typically continue some sort of abuse (typically emotionally/mentally), making the victim feel like they can't do things on their own anymore and demeaning them into a weak being meant for pity only. It can become a very "I know better than you, since you are broken". I want to see how this continues to change Glenn, as I see him as leader of the group.
5) Rick. No one has seen Rick break like this yet...except for Glenn. It's out. Rick's broken. And they've looked to him for their survival since he came into the group. He is and feels responsible for all the mishaps and all the loss, and it's literally driving him mad. How does he/his group recover and keep going?
6) Tyrese!! Come back!! He's an incredible wild card and is in the same boat as every other group leader....protect his group. Period. Rick and his crazy may have severed that, and there is no guarantee that we'll see Tyrese with Rick's group. Does he become a new foe to Rick's group? Or does he feel empathy for Rick's troubled mind and the group?
I know, I know...tl'dr.
Cliff's - I liked the episode. Brought lots of questions and groundwork for the rest of the season. I'm REALLY excited to see how it all pans out.
