I think in a traditional setting that would be the first season arc. And if you look at that arc and evaluate it as the first full season, it is certainly better than some shows first season.
I liked the fact that the writers remind you that there aren't going to be happy miracle endings in this show. I also liked that they made it clear they don't have to follow the comics.

I am curious why Rick would have a storage unit that close to Atlanta? Wasn't he living in backwater Kentucky?

If the CDc secret is right about everyone having the virus when they die why are there dead bodies in the cars on the highway? Shouldn't they all be zombies?

1) head trauma from car wrecks
2) maybe you have to be exposed to a zombie before you are infected
#2, is plausible because Jenner said it reacts like meningitis. Imagine a guy camping in the middle of nowhere, the world goes to shtt, then he gets in his car and gets in a car accident where he cuts his leg and bleeds out. He has had zero exposure to zombies. There has to be entire families that took to the road before coming in contact with zombies.

Remember to, some Zombies are essentially sleepers (for the life of me, I can't remember the term used in the comics).
In other words, some zombies will essentially just sit there unless something comes in view of them.
Also, while a car wreck might not cause head trauma, it very well may break bones, wrists, etc. You probably have a lot of zombies trapped in their cars.
