Considering his friend and coworker just got his jugular cut in front of him...

I have a suspicion that Gus staged the robbery with Jesse not because he wants him to be a successful member of the team but because he wants Jesse to die in a way that Walt can’t blame Gus. If Gus just had him whacked, Walt would go postal and stop production. But if Jesse decides to march off on his own to “protect” Mike and something happens to him, well that’s just too bad.

No, I think Jesse thought he was dead for killing Gale, so he didn't care anymore because death was inevitable. He now thinks that Gus/Mike owe him for saving the drop and Mike, so he's got a new lease on life.

Here's my question. If Jesse hadn't been paying attention, or had just frozen up and didn't throw the car in reverse, would dude with the shotgun have killed him or just tried to scare the sh*t out of him in an effort to see whether he lived or died? No doubt, Jesse exceeded expectations.

My guess is Mike would've popped out and fired a few shots to scare him off. They couldn't kill Jesse like that because Walt would be too suspicious and go psycho.

And I agree that Jesse has a new lease on life, but he's still a liability to Gus and I can't imagine why he'd want to keep him around.

i was more worried that jesse might have killed the dude in the car by crashing into him, or dude with the shotgun by running over him.

Jab has the most obvious conclusion I think, but we will see how creative they get with it.

Also, I just caught up on all of season 4 in the past couple of days. What is with all of the chunk on skyler? lol

she did just have a baby recently...not sure if she's that much bigger than she was last season, but who knows.

Skylar is definitely more woman than she was last season. I don't get the feeling Anna Gunn gained the weight for her character either. Seems like there has been a few scenes where they were trying to hide it. Could be wrong.

this was my favorite episode of the season since the opener. Hoping Gus gets more screen time the rest of the way.

As annoyed as Mike is with Jesse right now part of me wonders that if he continues to spend time with Jesse if he will develop a father-figure roll toward him similar to what Walt has. I'm reaching here but I bet when Mike was Walt's age he had gone through some crazy stuff just as well. That could add a whole new wrinkle to the Gus/Walt/Mike/Jesse relationship.

When the Jesse/Mike car-ride scene first began I got the feeling that it was Mike's idea. I was surprised to see that it was Gus' brainchild. I assumed that if anyone would have been pro-murdering Jesse it would have been Gus.

The shotgun scene, while exciting, sort of puzzled me as well. Were these two guys hired? I assume so because Gus said he would "pay for the damages to both your vehicles." Mike said to Gus, "It went just like you planned." He counted on Jesse seeing him and not being asleep? On the armed man being able to juke the car on it's way backwards? Seems like a reach, but it did indeed work and Jesse has his confidence back. Aaron Paul continues to get better and better in his portrayal of Jesse.

I'm interested to see how this shakes up the dynamics between the four of them.

If an episode has aired, you don't need to mention that there are spoilers. If you havent seen the episode, you have no business reading the thread. I almost didn't read your post.

Jesse was purposely not given a gun so shotgun guy wouldn't be in much danger. My assumption is shotgun guy would have knocked over a trashcan or done something else to draw attention as he got closer

anybody else feel that walt/jesse are the future gus/mike? seems to me they are foreshadowing their relationship as similar in nature (and why i think it works so well). we see walt/gus being the criminal masterminds, while mike/jesse are the right hand man/dirty work guys. walt is slowly becoming more calculating (like gus already is) concerned with the "business", Jesse becoming more cold (like mike) willing to do what is necessary to protect the business.

their relationships, while contentious, there is trust and loyalty between both of them. dont you think jesse, if confronted by someone that wanted to hurt or kill "Mr White", wouldnt beat the **** out of the person (like mike did walt) out of a sense of loyalty towards him? i sure as hell do.

maybe im off my rocker, but i am just beginning to see more and more comparisons between both parties and think the writers are foreshadowing that for a reason.

Doubt Gus & Mike were ever equal partners like Walter & Jesse. Gus & Mike have control of their emotions... Walt & Jesse don't.

We dont know what they were previously at the beginning of their partnership. they could have been equal partners starting out. also, do we know what their arrangement is currently?

Not now they dont, but you can see where Walt and Jesse are going down that path. You could also argue that they are now much more in control then they were at the start of the series. At least you can see the transition. Walt is becoming more calculating, seeing the big picture. Jesse is becoming more unfazed and immune to the violence and willing to do what it takes to keep the business alive. Just an observation.

I assumed that Gus was using the incident with Mike to begin to drive a wedge between Walt and Jesse.

I don't see any similarities between Gus and Walt. I think the last episode was the start of Walt's downfall

Great point. Somehow that hadn't occurred to me, but it makes sense. They did seem to make awfully sure the audience saw the cameras on him. I bet they play into the investigation.

Also, Walt is really starting to lose it. Ironic. 2 weeks ago, it was Jesse that was the unstable one - now it seems it's the other way around.

While they may use the pollo hermano tapes in the future, I'm pretty sure the main reason they kept showing the cameras was to point out that both were trained on Walt, just like the cameras in the lab, and the inference is that Gus is always manning/monitoring them.

Gus doesn't seem like the type of guy to keep the videos of walt at pollos. He probably would get rid of any connection between him and walt in public, and more likely even at his own store

Excellent episode tonight...

Walt giving Skylar a little taste of Heisenberg...

Jesse showing a few off his expertise of the meth industry...

Learning a little more about Gus' thoughts about Jesse (or so he says)...

Walt Jr doing more than just eating cereal & drinking coffee...

Dudes shooting guns, dudes getting killed, and Jesse nearly getting his head blown off...

Walt continuing to do stupid crap and painting himself into a corner...

Lots of good stuff this week.

will be interesting to see when the cops\feds start investigating the truck being shot up or did Mike "clean" the scene up some how?

another good one

Pretty site the whole "as is" convo was because the place was trashed.

The whole truck thing is getting ridiculous.

Why did digging the whole work for Jessie?

i figured the "as-is" with the carwash was due to his knowledge of 'environmental problems' and other issues pitched by biggin' & Bill Burr... i liked Walt keeping the first dollar and using it for a celebratory soda.

Im guessing Jesse knows you can keep a paranoid methhead busy simply by digging a hole. When Tucker came out asking what he was doing and he replied with "you know why" it was enough to keep him busy while he went inside.

Great episode. it will be really interesting to see if this Jesse "experiment" turns into more. If they decide he actually can be useful and start to give him legitimate responsibilities outside the lab that will be a huge new wrinkle in the show.

Walt's going Heisenberg in front of Skylar was intense. I just kept thinking about how much of Walt's predicament is directly related to his pride, and his inability to ask for help. Skylar has started to break bad but she isn't totally there yet. Walt has resigned to the fact that he is probably in this for life. I think maybe that was what the four corners scene was about. She realized how deep Walt was in, and her vision of doing this for a couple years and then maybe getting out was not going to work. Time to either commit to this life or bolt. Obviously deep down she wanted to stay as she pulled her destination back to New Mexico.

I'll probably get slammed for this, but I don't think this season is as good as any of the prior ones. It's still good, just not as good. The weakest season so far. I hope it picks up...I'm sure sure it will...

I agree that episodes 2-4 were slow. Part of what has made this show so outstanding I think is the pace. In the first three seasons you felt like every scene in every episode was packed with information and was going somewhere (except maybe the fly episode.)

I think episode one was so intense (it was really like a to be continued from the season 3 finale) that the whole series almost had to reset.

The last two episodes I think have been on par with the rest of the series.

I want to Hank recover and get back involved chasing down the blue meth. Hank brings alot to the show and I miss his constant jabbing at his coworker.
