Walt Jr. is the catalyst for this entire plot. Walt started this whole thing to provide for his family after he is dead. Irony is he wanted to leave a legacy for his family and now he's realizing he doesn't like the legacy he has built up. I honestly think with Jr. dead none of this makes sense for Walt and he has nothing to live for. His family is still the reason he is trying to stay alive.
Very interesting stuff. The most poignant part of that scene was Jr's revelation about how he had perceived Walt over the past year. You could tell by they look on his face that Walt was taken aback by this, with the past year being the most financially successful and healthy of the series.
Might have been the wake up call Walt needed.
What's going to be very interesting is the direction of the next 3 episodes. Think about the story lines that are coming to a head.
Jessie v. Walt
Walt v. Gus/Mike
Hank v. Gus/Mike
What would be REALLY interesting would be if Gus/Mike die as a result of the shootout, and Walt/Jessie become the defacto leaders of the drug ring. With Hank hot on Gus's trail, would Hank's attention and history with Jessie tie it all together? Would Walt really turn down all the financial gain from running the drug ring even though it means he can finally get out, or has he truly become a bad guy?
Very, very cool angles to be pursued from here on out, especially if next season is the last.
