I think it's NW80 that likes to say that you can catch everything in texas on a chartreuse clouser, and he's right.

Here's a few more that I happen to have pictures uploaded for:

getting ready for white bass a couple years ago - clousers and cyperts minnows

anything with a strip of rabbit fur is great for bass:

Poppers:

Gurglers (not mine)

cyperts minnows

little baitfish

buggers and crawfish are also very effective but I don't have any pictures of any handy.

very good stuff, thanks!

I know this is not the ideal place to go but I found out yesterday that Academy no longer carries flyfishing gear, flies.

Probably not the most quality stuff but it was easy to grab a few things.

Here I sit and here I think
Of fishes caught and whiskey drink
Oft times muse and sit and stare
At random bits of feather and hair
In my cave I'm happily hid
Until found by wife and kid

Clouser with white rabbit fur. The fly fishing guy at backwoods in Fort Worth was giving me tips on what works and just up and said, "let me just make you one real quick". Two hours later, caught a couple largemouth with it.

Guessing that was stephen, he's a great guy. I've learned a lot of fly tying stuff from him. Although I always know I'm about to buy something I didn't come in for when he says "you gotta check this out" and grabs a couple things and heads for the vice.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a river that runs through San Antonio.

im hooked, this was my first time out. Went with living waters so I could know what I was doing. he took this artsy shot of my 2nd bass on a fly. Lots of redbreasts and 2 bass were caught. Couldn't get a Rio to take but it was a blast. Cant wait to go more.

Went down to the Medina River behind the house today. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. Hungry bass hitting almost every cast. No pics because I tend to get wet throughout my trip. Was cool in the shallower spots you could see the bass lined up and they would all attack when a fly would float over. Caught several small perch that had bass biting their butts as I was trying to pull them in. Beautiful day, gorgeous water. Love El Nio years. Need some fishing partners. Anyone In the Bandera/medina/SA area want to get together and fish sometime?

Fished the Guad in Kerrville today. Missed on a couple of bass and caught several sunfish.

Did managed to catch 2 sunfish on a chartreuse and chocolate lab hair fly I tied as a joke for my wife.

My sister-in-law and family used to live off English Crossing Rd, about a half-mile from the low-water crossing. I enjoyed fishing there. I love being close to the coast but am definitely envious of those clear Hill Country rivers full of Guadalupe bass, smallies, and all those colorful bream that you can sight fish for.

Reel, my family grew up in Ingram and my grandparents lived in Bandera I think the Medina gorgeous. I loved watching the fish get after the fly when it went on its bed. Had a bass strike a small sunfish I was hooked up. That was cool.

Caught 2 little bass in white rock creek on Dallas/Richardson border. There were some larger carp that I'd like to try and catch. Nothing cared for drifted flies, need some motion. Caught them on poppers, any advice for the carp? Buggers?

A bugger with a bead head will work. Google carp flies, yiu basic ally want something with a weighted end that will sit with one end on the bottom while the other end moves a little. Try to drop it right in front of a feeding carp without spooking him. When you see him eat it, set the hook. They'll spit it out before you feel anything so watch for the gill flare. Not easy but a ton of fun.

Awesome updates on river bass and pan fish.

I've been struggling to get carp to bite as well. Cast too far away, and they never see the fly. Cast too close, and they dart away. There's a lot of info online regarding fly selection, but I can't get the right approach to test what works or not.

went back to the same spot yesterday, wouldn't coax any bass or carp but caught tons of pumpkinseeds and green sunfish, plus a blacktail shiner I managed to hook in the tail. All caught on a sz10 Letort cricket

I've had good luck with Bonefish Bitters for carp. Most fly shops will have them if you don't tie yourself.

I can't figure out what sort of carp they are, any guesses on species based on location pictured above?

I think they are River Carpsuckers, not sure they'll go for any type of fly?

Redhorse sucker possibly?

Hmm very well could be, need to catch one and find out! I'll try drifting some nymphs

I think it could also be spotted suckers, I'm leaning away from carpsucker right now and either redhorse or sucker. Any other them should take a nymph though.

Well after 10 yrs of fly fishing, all my free flies are almost gone. My good friend that introduced me to fly-fishing always gave me his seconds after tying, so I had boxes of flies to use up. He moved to CO, and now my supply has dwindled. I broke down and bought a cheap vise and some supplies and built my first popper.

After getting approval from my CO buddy (who said it looked good but wasn't shat until it caught a fish), I drove down to the river behind the house.....

Tying may become addictive I'm afraid....

Friday morning we beat the tubers and kayers to the river. I did a 1/2 day float Trip on the Caney Fork River in Middle Tennessee. Rocky Cox with Rocky Top Outfitters was my guide. We fished with beetles on the surface and then with nymphs under a strike indicator. We started at Happy Hollow and finished at Betty's Island. About 4.5 miles over 5 hours. Some pics for your pleasure.
