Iran is denying any talks are talking place. Why would Iran talk with the United States anymore? We unilaterally backed out of a deal in 2018 which they were adhering to. We assassinated Soleimani 2020. We allowed Israel to directly attack them during negotiations in 2025. And then we personally attacked them in 2026 during negotiations.

Furthermore, the US and Israel are both now just openly calling for "regime change". I see zero reason why Iran would ever "talk" with us ever again unless they received serious concessions/compensation.

Yes, they will look back at their previous attempts at getting exactly what they want and being denied, and they will say "Eh, it didn't work then, so I should not see what I can do as a last resort to keep them from killing me".

That makes sense.

I don't think the Iranian leadership fears death. This is an existential war for them

OK, but not only was that not your argument (US is not a good negotiating partner) you also don't believe they are religiously suicidal for the cause of chaos. Your arguments here are diametrically opposed.

Russia is urging Iran to take a deal:

A lot of items in this Substack about the fallout of the Iran war well worth the read:

No it actually aligns. I don't think the Iranian leadership fears death and I also don't believe they have any reason to trust (or talk with) the US at this point. None of that has anything to do with religious suicide. I can explain it further for you, even though I have done it in previous posts.

The Iranian leadership does not fear death because this war is an existential war for them. Israel, and by proxy the US, have marked them to be "removed". There is no benefit to negotiate now that Israel, and by proxy the US, have begun striking them.

My argument regarding the US being an untrustworthy negotiating partner is also backed by the facts. We allowed Israel to strike them in 2025 during negotiations. And then we attacked them during negotiations in 2026.

All accounts? What accounts are you referring to?

My account tells me Trump is not doing someone else's bidding if it is not aligning with his own views. So no, Israel is not dictating to Trump no matter how much you want that to be true.

What generals have said Trump did not listen to them? I have not seen those accounts. Maybe you are referring to paid-commentators who are retired generals (who are often folks he fired)? I don't listen to CNN/WaPo etc. so no clue, apologies.

In real news, Lebanon is officially kicking out the Iranians next.

Several MSM outlets were reporting that in the lead up to hostilities, take it for what it is worth.

As a former military officer I would not have recommended this without an actual plan for regime change. I think Trump overestimated the desire for change by the Iranian people.

Well, MSM outlets I can believe would fabricate such details.

As a former military officer as well, I think your analyses is flawed as Trump has yet to announce to the Iranian people that now is the time to go back into the streets/take charge after advising them to stay in/safe pending the bombing campaign. Through the fog of war, even with all of our 'osint' and satellite types of data/online chatter we just don't have a clear picture of where things are, which I think is precisely what leads to some of our disagreements as to what is going on based on our preconceptions/what we want to see. Assuming MSM has sources among the active-duty generals Trump is talking with to me is a bridge too far.

Personally, I think the vast majority of the Iranian people very passionately want to be rid of the IRGC/Ayatollahs. We see a lot of hyperbole/fake news in our MSM about things like 'ICE is killing people' but imagine how strongly Americans would feel if the government really did kill 75K+ Americans for protesting (proportionately vs. 30K Iranians) just this year, including prominent athletes/celebrities. My point is mainly just that to make the leap that Iranians don't favor a 'regime change' is highly presumptuous, based on all the reporting I trust/rate as accurate.

Where is your evidence and argument he is telling the truth ? See how weak this line of "debating" really is. Many questions can be answered by long term observation, experience, knowledge of the history and story background of the subject and deductive reasoning, if, if you have factual information or keen observation.

Beats the hell out of quoting crap from the likes of the Guardian, CNN, NYT, CBS even Fox News. Many people these days to NOT recognize those "news" sources as legitimate and haven't in several decades when they have been found time after time carrying water for the left or the right.

We call this polarization. It happens when media makes or interprets news along ideological lines instead of objectively report it.

The NYT ? No thanks. That has been a rag since the early '70's. Then, in the 80's when we had to use it as a source, along with the WSJ, to make cases, I learned first hand my Vietnam vet uncles had understated the "rag" charge. This happened when the left went nuts over Reagan placing Pershing II IRBM's in Germany to counter an aggressive USSR. History, in that case showed the NYT to be so wrong, so arrogant, yet so clueless. So why trust that rag now. It hasn't changed.
