This was a unwinnable war from the start no matter what happens Iran wins Israel could win but the American people loose.

Remember when Trump saved us from North Korea Rocket Man? Trump has saved the ME from nuclear extinction with the Iran war. We are already seeing that narrative at play and parroted.

But that gaslighting only works here in the US. Bibi and Iranain civilians are ultimately going to need Trump to commit 100s of billions more of our money. Hopefully he doesnt. Throwing the Iranian civilians under the bus is easy for him, Bibi and AIPAC arent easy.

One challenge with this request is the broader diplomatic context.

Many of the countries being asked to help secure the Strait of Hormuz are long-standing U.S. allies, but relations with several of them have been strained in recent years due to trade disputes, tariffs, and political criticism.

Regardless of one's view of those policies, they inevitably affect trust and cooperation. When alliances feel transactional or adversarial, it becomes harder to rally partners around high-risk military or security initiatives.

Them taking advantage of the generosity of the United States is what has made the relationship feel transactional or adversarial. That is sort of the point of Trump's rhetoric here.

Come to our aid now or do not rely on us in the future. It's our allies acting like frickturds, DJT is pointing it out and telling them it's time to show if we have an alliance… or not.

I'm not arguing allies shouldn't contribute. My point was about how alliances function diplomatically.

Cooperation in high-risk operations usually depends on trust and predictability over time. If the messaging becomes "prove the alliance right now or lose U.S. support," partners often become more cautious, not more willing to jump into a conflict.

So the issue isn't reciprocity, it's whether the approach strengthens or weakens the coalition needed to do something like secure the Strait of Hormuz.

What exactly is our Navy doing to reopen it? And if we have already won the war, why is it still in need of reopening? And why is NATO on the hook for actions that we initiated?

The European nations of NATO do not have energy self sufficiency. Their gas prices are already two or three times higher than ours. Thus they have much more exposure to shortages crippling their economies (such as they are already somewhat crippled.)

I agree. Why is it the responsibility of NATO to re-open the straight? Trump is such an idiot sometimes. He thinks he can bully everyone. He just needs to man up and deal with the situation himself.

Yeah, because we've never been drawn into conflicts by other country's actions. I bet you were all in for Ukraine, Vietnam, Iran/Iraq War, and on and on and on.

I view them all individually. Certainly not for all of them. Honestly I think we should have just taken out Iran's nuclear capability and move on. But maybe Israel has our ear too much?

LOL. This is so predictable by the left and Euros. Remember when Trump warned them about dependence on Russian oil? They laughed and laughed until they were hit in the face with Russian aggression.

Bail him out? IT IS THEIR OIL that is stuck in the straight. Seriously, why is that so hard to understand? We are trying to get the world to stop leaching off the free ride that the American Navy produces.

Iran was a threat to America. America is working on taking out the threat

The straight is a European problem. Europeans can go make sure their cargo and oil get to their shores. If they don't want to insure their own resources, why should the American Navy? I do not care what any Euro country thinks, we had a problem with Iran so we are fixing it. They are also having a problem with Iran, and they can fix their part too.

Not sure if you have seen oil prices lately but they are significantly higher in the USA as well.

It is our problem. Trump being so delusional to not see how badly this is damaging his own political agenda is incredible. The only regime change he's accomplished so far is a blue wave here in the USA.

Now Trump is blaming Ai for us not being able to win. This was a unwinnable war from the start no matter what happens Iran wins Israel could win but the American people loose. Trump tweeting about mines won't help the insurance rate on those ships all Iran has to do is hold out and get the win. We have to have boots on ground to win and the second he does that Trump looses. Have no clue who advised him or why we are in this position but the second it started was a loss for the American people.

The first time I attributed it to a typo...

But, no, you really got that wrong twice.

I'm surprised "loss" is spelled correctly.

Delusion would be a European country not sending resources to protect their countries interest. The short term spike we are seeing in gas prices is absolute peanuts compared to what we spend on security around the globe to counter Iran. Not to mention that we have had to spend like that for the past 50 years. Again, delusion.

But, why would it necessarily be our problem? That war is in Europe/Asia.

However, we are supporting the Euros BECAUSE WE ARE ALLIES.

Asking for the same from the Euros in this war shouldn't be controversial.

except that for the most part, it's not. europe receives less than 5% of the crude and less than 10% of the LNG that transits the hormuz strait. the overwhelming majority goes to asia.

europe's exposure to the strait has more to do with price shocks should iran block transit (same as the rest of the world), which wasn't a problem until trump decided to start a war there without planning contingencies for iran using the strait as leverage. trump is begging europe to help bail him out for a problem he created.
