I've been wondering (I have no proof of anything, mind you) if ABC told Kimmel "we'll lift your suspension and allow you and your employees return to work on the show and keep getting paid, but we can't promise you that everyone will air it across the country."

ABC could be looking at this as a sunk cost, given his current contract only runs through next May, and they determined they have no legal path to terminate it early and save $…

So they let him continue to work and avoid lawsuits that will cost even more $, and simply cut their losses with what he is already owed…

To my knowledge, they can't force affiliates to air the show, even if they continue to provide the content…

That's what I'm thinking as well. And honestly, there's nothing wrong with that. ABC provides the content and if an affiliate doesn't want to air it that's fine, there's others that will. That's as "let the market decide" as it gets.

FYI... Some of the local stations ARE corporate owned. I clicked over to ABC13 here in Houston and they are directly owned by ABC/Disney.

I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.

I think it's like 13 affiliates are Disney Corp owned. The majority are owned by Nextar, Sinclair and Gannet (who Nextar is trying to acquire) and both Sinclair and Nextar are heavily conservative ownership.

Then being conservative makes sense as to why they're doing it. It goes against their views, and even if they're in cities that aren't conservative, them refusing to show his show at least goes with their personal views.

The beauty of running their companies the way they see fit.

I was wondering if this was ABC's way of placating Kimmel and all of the Hollywood libs that were mad about their decision. They probably knew a big percentage of affiliates still weren't going to carry it, so it's not like he's back to where he was from a show and exposure standpoint, but they can also shrug and pass the blame for that off to Sinclair and Nexstar.

It's amazing that government can pressure tech platform monopolies to ban and censor the duly elected POTUS while they left ayatollahs, hezbolah and ISIS members, etc. on their platforms.

Government can pressure tech platform monopolies to ban, shadow ban, and censor anti-communist or conservative viewpoints.

Government can fund NGOs to create "independent" "fact-checkers" to add bias and discredit anti-communist or conservative viewpoints.

Government can set up "disinformation" boards and even name a "czar" for it to coordinate the censorship operations and control approved government narratives.

Government can pressure tech platform monopolies to ban and censor the nation's longest running news publication founded by Alexander Hamilton to protect their political installation ahead of an election.

...all things celebrated by the left.. but ABC Disney suspends Kimmel for a few days for vile lies aimed at more division and hatred after his fellow leftist murdered a political figure and millions of leftists rejoiced over it -- and they freak the F out about "free speech".

why is the left so hateful and ritaarded?

Its this. The gaslighting on this has been too much.

I thought NexStar was buying Tegna. Are they and Gannet the same?
I only knew of Tegna when I started seeing the exact same content on KIII (CBS Corpus Christi) and KHOU (CBS Houston) Facebook pages. They were using the same "verify" fact checker; think something similar to Snopes. Then with a little clicking I discovered that their social media was run and managed by Tegna. Then of course Tegna got into it with Dish Network, which of course is a crisis when the Ags were playing Alabama on CBS!

Tegna is the offshoot for Gannet that consists of the old Belo Broadcasting that Gannet acquired then Belo Corp was broken up. Gannet owns all sorts of different media including digital, print, and broadcasting, Tegna is the broadcasting platform of Gannet

They won't share in any ad revenue associated with Kimmel. They will run their own ads with whatever program they choose to show.

I think (I could be wrong here) that it's a mix of national and local ads. NexStar recall was the first to pull the plug the first time around and it was due to advertisers wanting their local ads pulled. These are the ads for local grocery stores, car dealerships, doctors, etc. Then there are national ads as well: Ford, Chevy, Coke, AT&T or Verizon, etc.

So for these time slots do the national companies book nationwide ads or are the national companies splitting up their ads regionally or even at the affiliate level?

We know during the Super Bowl most of the ads are national, but there are still a few local slots that get filled by local businesses.

HEB has ads during the Super Bowl, but they sure aren't running those nationally!

Roku users who subscribe to the Roku app will most likely be able to pick up the ABC feeds of other cities, if I remember my Roku channel listings correctly. I subscribe to Roku, but I don't get in that area of the channel guide often. I just remember that once upon a time they had dozens of OTA TV stations from all over the country to pick from.

In these days of streaming TV, anyone who complains about The Man keeping Jimmy Kimmel down doesn't realize how easy it is to watch his show, if they really want to.

I have YouTube TV.
It will not work with my current VPN. When I travel it pulls my location from my IP and i get the locals from that area. If I try to use my VPN to change or modify my location (whether for different locals or even when I'm international and want to watch US programming) it tells me to turn off the VPN.
