Why have an FCC at all, if not to regulate the public airwaves? That is why they are in existence, just like every other government body, to regulate. They already regulate what can and can't be shown on public television based on public interest - a very broad and ambiguous term, legally, that could mean really anything you want it to mean. Their job is to pressure corporations into doing what is best for "public interest".

FCC is another big government institution, given to us by FDR, that should be abolished, in my humble opinion.
