I got the feeling dodgson was just a middle man in the OG, how did he become hnic? And why was he terrible? Where did he get the barbasol can? Couldn't have been the one nedry had bc the camera made a point to show us it was being buried, and we were told it could only hold embryos for 36 hours

Unfortunately, I dont remember anything about that movie except for the freakishly huge locust and Starlord having somehow evolved past hypothermia

I actually said "this is where you shiver to death, Chris pratt"

Just a very average movie, dumb decisions by people, animals doing stupid stuff, equipment abandoned for 17 years firing up quicker than my lawnmower in the spring.
So many Jaws ripoffs err… "nods" in the Mosasaur scene. Shooting off the bow, running to get another dart (a barrel in the original) snapping in rigging to the boat and even right down to the line word for word "It's my charter!" "It's my boat!" from the original movie.

And I loved the "operator" using a scope from ten meters to hit a Dino the size of a school bus. (After misfiring.... very poor trigger discipline!)

Aztec ruins in South America was a head scratcher.

We went as a group of 11 with family & it was a universal "meh"

We all found the premise that somehow people would collectively quit caring about Dinos a little odd. Somehow Zoos remain popular to this day, right?

I did think the effects were good though, however the size of the last Dino seemed to vary as needed and the Titanosaurs seemed like they were 300 feet tall with tails a half mile long.

Just got done with rebirth. It was....fine

I feel like this is the first jurassic movie that didn't have a big reveal or huge change to the world. Everything in the movie world is the same at the beginning and end of the movie.

Overall, just fun. Lots of fun. I highly recommend to take the family as long as the kids are old enough. So many flaws and stupid sh** but overall it was a great time.

This is the first one I've seen since the first Jurassic World.

Thought it started out pretty slow and cheesy but once the dinosaur stuff got started I thought it was a ton of fun.

Grading it strictly as a popcorn movie I give it a B.

I will say this: for an island of mutants, some of the dinos looked park-ready.

Yeah within about five minutes of the boat leaving you knew who would live and who would die screaming. LMAO.

Also, the "family" was fine but absolutely completely inconsequential to the plot at every level.

The first few minutes were so stupid I just about laughed out loud but the recovery was good.

Our theater clapped at the end as well which I thought was pretty cool.

I feel like this franchise has run its course and is just milking it for the money. To be honest, I agree with one of the earlier comments I had read somewhere about people just not amazed anymore - and adding mutant/larger dinos isn't giving us that. I think the only way you get some of that feeling back is to do a total reboot so we can at least see the fresh amazement from the perspective of the movie characters.

I wish they could license someone to write a JP prequel novel about the race to make the first dinos and have InGen be one of 2+ companies trying to get there first. Could totally rewrite a lot of stuff for the franchise with corporate espionage, huge successes and failures, lots of dirty laundry, etc

I agree with your first line 100%, the writing is just plain bad.
In this movie in particular, the addition of the family on the island added nothing at all the overall story arc in my opinion. It took time away from the main group & thus they were not fleshed out fully and it was hard to really give a crap about them. Even ScarJo's group seemingly forgot about the family once they hit the island.... they were a waste of screen time.

It's going to take something revolutionary to amaze people with effects. Avatar*, The Matrix, Terminator 2 & Jurassic Park 1 did that. You aren't going to wow an audience twice with retread Dinos, slow-mo bullet dodging or Pandora. You need character development & a good story. There's a reason that Jaws holds up after 50 years and it definitely isn't because of the mechanical shark. Not every movie is going to have Jaws level writing, but it seems like nowadays they aren't even trying in most cases.

Some good recent comparisons are Godzilla Minus One VS Godzilla X Kong and Gladiator vs. Gladiator 2.
The former movies in each case had great writing & the latter were trash smeared over with CGI eye candy. Movies of the latter type may be "fun" but they definitely will be forgotten about in the years to come.

*Edited to note the Avatar story was a straight retread Hollywood trope & not the greatest by any means.... but the effects were amazing.

With this movie's theme of the dinosaurs settling along the equator, you could do a Predator-esque story about an indigenous tribe finding its territory invaded by just 1-2 carnivores and having to fight them off - people with no knowledge of the outside world - some worship it as a god, some try to hunt it, etc. Could be a new slasher R-rated movie in the spirit of Jaws.

From the ending of Predator 2, we should already know the outcome of that movie.

Ryan George's Fallen Kingdom and Dominion pitch meetings are HOFers, and thus one doesn't disappoint either.

We had Dominion on in the background last week….

Our family would catch parts of it and every 10 or so minutes someone would ask "Is this still the Jurassic park movie?!"

It was completely unrecognizable to us. Had no idea what was going on or why it was so long.

Just a little hyperbole there. He makes a ton of great points as to why it sucks. TCD could still be a moron, but he's not wrong on most of his comments in the video.
