Okay, so what are some questions going forward?

1. Was Kylo telling the truth about Rey's parents being nothing of special? If yes, does it mean anything other than the force being a viable to anyone and not birthright? If no, who are her parents? I choose the latter and that they are siblings. I know Snoke said he manipulated them but I think the power to connect to each other was their own doing kind of like Luke and Leia.

2. Who was Snoke?

3. Where are we going next? Kylo and Rey have their own academy's?
1: We saw the slave kid force grab the broom at the end. Anakin came from a slave. Some just have it, otherwise I'd think there would be breeding programs that Sith or Jedi or some organizations would employ to have an army of force users...

2: Snoke is a mystery.

3: Kylo will rule the universe, and Rey will still need to be trained by force ghost Luke, Yoda, Kenobi, etc...

So you have no questions going forward? Unfortunately, I am kind of the same and trying to come up with questions. Quite odd to not have some kind of question to cause a frenzy. What are we looking forward to the most in IX? Hmmmm...

IX could go in a million different directions. Unlike ESB, XIII didn't really leave anything specific hanging to wrap up.

My questions are:

1. The number one question is how will the Resistance regroup and put up a fight with just a dozen people, and no capital.

2. Will Rey be able to convert or kill Kylo?

3. Reylo? Will Kylo and Rey hook up?

4. What will the galactic power structure look like going forward?

5. Will there be Jedi or Sith, or just force users with no affiliation, and just doing what they think is right for them or their surroundings.

Rey: Felt like she was a little bit on hold here. Her character was developed, but the real point of this middle movie is with Kylo and Luke. I still think she has a lot of backstory that will come out in the third movie where she is the unquestioned Main Character. She's too skilled in the Force and there are too many dangling threads from TFA (especially the flashback and Han's expression when he appears to know who she is) for her to be some random kid.
The lack of a plausible explanation for Rey's proficiency with the Force is a problem for me from a script standpoint. It's a fairly well established point by now that being "strong with the Force" isn't exclusive to being a Skywalker; anybody can learn to become a Jedi or Sith. But it is also hammered home repeatedly that training is necessary to control the Force or duel with a lightsaber. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Luke, and Kylo all needed training to develop their raw abilities. Rey's sudden, instant awakening wasn't earned and wasn't explained.
Quote:

Maz: Her appearance felt like fan service, only no one is really a fan. All she really added was the factoid that led to a mediocre side plot that could have been avoided.
This made no logical sense either. The success of the "hacker" plan depended completely on luck. The only way to identify the master hacker was his lapel pin? Really? What if he forgot to wear it that night? What if he decided to go to a different casino? What if he was on vacation on some other planet at that time? And then the very guy they need just happens to already be in the same cell with Finn and Rose, without that lapel pin? This entire sequence just felt badly written to me.
Quote:

Leia: Superman Leia was a bad idea. They missed several chances to kill her off and I think they probably should have gone through with it. Otherwise, MUCH better acting this time around and played a real role in the story. I also thought that the first order should have been tracking them via the transponder thingy she shared with Rey. That would have been way better than inventing a technology that wrecks a lot of the dynamics of space war.
Totally agree. It would have been much cleaner story-wise if the First Order was tracking the Resistance via Leia's transponder. Moreover, since the "secret plan" was to fool the First Order by letting them follow the cruiser while the Resistance escaped to Krait, it could have easily been explained as a key part of the plan. The "hyperspace tracking flux capacitor" technology was unnecessary and overly complicated the plot for no apparent reason other than to set up a showdown between Finn and Phasma.

Laura Dern: just have her part played by Akbar. Tighter, cleaner, accomplish fan service.
This was a huge missed opportunity in my view. Ackbar's ultimate sacrifice would have simultaneously been his greatest victory. This would have elevated Ackbar's status from just a funny internet meme to one of the most important and legendary minor characters. Instead, we get Laura Dern as Commodore Decker? What a waste.

Our showing here in College Station was very different than the one for TFA two years ago. There was nobody dressed up (for TFA we had multiple Yodas and a Vader) and very few cheers.
I went to the 1am and didn't see anyone dressed up either but there were quite a few cheers throughout the film.

Lose Laura Dern. Give Ackbar a great sendoff. Find another way for Finn to highlight the elements (hope, war machine profiteering) that the codebreaker plotline was leveraged for. Instead of such simple plot devices as a warpspeed tracker and codebreaker, maybe uncovering a traitor takes Finn to that planet and brings those elements into the plot. Doesn't necessarily have to be a traitor, but do something a little more complex that ties into how they were tracked in the first place and allows Del Toro's character to be introduced and then betray

I read that Ackbar's voice actor died in April 2016 at 93, so that may be why they didn't give him a sendoff.

'm most looking forward to Kylo Ren as Supreme Leader. The Emperor was evil, but he was very calculating. He gave into his anger, but he controlled it. Kylo Ren is unstable. He went ape**** in the middle of a battle because he saw his father's old freighter. Having that guy in charge of the galaxy would be terrifying.

Him saying "I want every gun we have, to fire on that man" might be my favorite moment in the new movies so far.

Just watched it. The full Disneyfication of Star Wars has happened. Cut 45 minutes, reduce the screen time of Finn and Rosie, concentrate more on Luke and Rey, and you would have had a very good movie. Otherwise, I almost thought I was watching Ewoks II.

Apparently, Luke will be able to control the weather as a force ghost. Maybe he can strike down Kylo with some lightning. At the very least, he could save the galaxy from climate change.

Man this thread really is unbelievable right now. I get that for a lot of you the OT was your childhood, but I could go to all of those movies and find nitpicky things like all of you are griping about right now, even in ESB, which is a near perfect movie. Is this movie perfect? Absolutely not. Is it really good? I think so, but only if you're willing to throw away your pre-conceived notions about what you thought the movie should be.

Snoke? The whole point of killing Snoke was to show he doesn't actually matter. The main villain of this trilogy is Kylo Ren and that's what killing Snoke tried to show IMO.

Luke's character arc? Luke was never perfect, no jedi is, not even Yoda. The line about hubris and allowing Sidious to rise right underneath the Jedi's nose at the height of their power was absolutely true, and the same applies to Luke. Snoke even makes a comment after he reads Rey's mind noting how wise Luke is. Everyone is flawed and will fail, that's one of the biggest themes of this movie. Also, Luke's force projection was the most powerful use of the force we've ever seen from anyone in a Star Wars movie. He got a good send-off, just maybe not the send off we expected.

I'm not even gonna get into the SJW stuff discussion, but the Finn subplot was my least favorite. It just seemed so separate from everything else and ultimately pointless, but that's part of the failure theme. That subplot is not really bad IMO, but it is the weakest part of the movie.

That said, after two viewings, this is a damn good movie. Probably my favorite since Empire.

EDIT: I will also add that since the invention of things like TexAgs and Reddit, we use the internet to make all these theories and then get mad when our theories don't turn out to be true or we don't get an answer to them. That didn't exist for the OT, it barely did for the prequels.

Not bagging on the dude seeing it three times already but that is a horrible analogy. With TLJ you're seeing the exact same thing over and over. Bingeing a Netflix season is something new each episode.

Flying Leia in space was legitimately bad, but didn't bother me as much on 2nd viewing.

I think the casino was an awesome setting, but suffered because it was the setting for the weakest plot point of the movie.

The crystal critters didn't bother me at all. But then again neither did the porgs. So that just may be an opinion thing.
